QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 02:53 PM) His problem is he swings at pitches that are hard for anyone to do anything with. Ya they show Iwakuma highlights this morning on Hot Stove. What do I see? Avi swinging at a fastball he has no business swinging at.

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 11:16 PM) I would like to see a LaDunn/Garcia DH platoon I wouldn't. I'd like to see LaRoche gone, Avi gone and two OFs added. Then move Melky to DH. Dreaming but screw it. -

QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 10:59 PM) In theory we would definitely be better off putting that $$ towards a righty arm. Really wish we could have signed someone like Bartolo Colon. $8.25 mil, righty starter for the back end. I know he's old as dirt, and obviously a Met, but there's gotta be someone who fits that profile out there that we can nab. You want to pay 42 year old Bartolo Colon to pitch in the AL? Say that out loud.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 09:53 PM) He was Jeter's agent too, right? The guy has an almost impeccable reputation compared to some agents. Not sure. I just know what I've heard from KC sports radio. I listen to it a lot being a Chiefs fan. They talk a lot about the royals obviously. They've touched on this multiple times.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 09:28 PM) Kudos to Lillian for not falling back on the whole LH fascination and advocating for Alex Gordon, haha. (It's pretty amazing how quiet things have actually been on that front, compared to Cespedes and Upton. All you hear is/was what the Cardinals and KC SUPPOSEDLY offered him or initially wanted to offer him, but even that's pretty much unconfirmed. Lots of rumors.) He and his agent are keeping this very very quiet. Casey Close and Gordon. They said that from the get go.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 08:59 PM) Cespedes is a much more dynamic and exciting player. He's a natural companion piece to Abreu in terms of teammates/camaraderie and marketing. He can also play any of the OF positions, but is much stronger in RF and LF. Having Cespedes and Eaton together improves your defense quite a bit...and psychologically, knowing you have a competent fielder on your left side allows you to cheat a bit more to the other side and protect Cabrera in the gap. Upton is an average fielder, at best. All of his value comes from hitting and speed/athleticism, which is on the verge of declining in the next couple of years with all of the wear and tear on his body from being healthy for such a long stretch. Yoenis is proven in the AL and NL. He basically was the borderline NL MVP last year, certainly for the last two months. He performed well in both the AL West and AL Central. Upton hasn't shown that...doesn't mean he's not capable, but it's not a given at this point either, not with all the recent issues we've had in that area (LaRoche, Dunn, Samardzija, etc.) With his age and the current White Sox "open window" of 2016 and 2017, a contract for four years for Cespedes with higher average value (or maybe an opt-out again after 2017) makes a lot more financial sense than possibly being "stuck" with Upton for six years. Upton hasn't hit very well the last three years against the AL in inter-league play, only a .207 average in over 200 at-bats. Agreed. Cespedes is familiar with AL and AL Central. I'm crossing my fingers we get him.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 04:08 PM) No clue where to put this, but John Smoltz just called Quintana a #3-4 type guy in the rotation. Watched that. He just doesn't know about our rotation outside of sale.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 06:39 PM) He was "leaking" that other teams had interest in KW. Pretty sure he has a direct line from KW. Makes sense. Just odd that they only talked about Upton and only Bob made a prediction, but we'll see what happens. I'd think something happens sooner rather than later.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 06:33 PM) Didn't he originally cover the Sox many moons ago? I always know that when Nightengale speaks about the Sox, I listen. Absolutely. He's around it all. Breaks a lot of it and I guess he's KW go to?

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 06:22 PM) Did he mention other teams that might be involved with Upton? No. It was weird. Just like a pure White Sox plug. Seemed planted.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 05:30 PM) Expect an outfielder. Bob Nightengale on MLBN just said Sox are perfect landing spot for Justin Upton. Just spent a couple minutes talking about it.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 06:18 PM) The White Sox' go to media leak. Nice. Yyyyup. He gets all the nuggets.

Bob Nightengale said White Sox are Uptons perfect landing spot on MLBN. Talking about it now. Said they've had dialogue

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) If you can get Sonny Gray, you give up Anderson and Fulmer, and just about every other prospect of note in our system. But it is never going to happen and not even worth discussing. It's not gona happen but it's fine to discuss. Just like when I was bringing up Arenado and some freaked out. It's the offseason. We can banter about stuff.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 04:24 PM) Crazy thought here: Sign OF Yoenis Cespedes 5 years/110 million Trade SP Erik Johnson, SS Tim Anderson, SP Spencer Adams and OF Adam Engel to the A's for SP Sonny Gray CF Adam Eaton LF Melky Cabrera 1B Jose Abreu 3B Todd Frazier RF Yoenis Cespedes DH Adam LaRoche 2B Brett Lawrie C Alex Avila/Dioner Navarro SS Tyler Saladino SP Chris Sale SP Sonny Gray SP Jose Quintana SP Carlos Rodon SP John Danks Have 3 picks in top 50 in the next draft. No Anderson. Fulmer in there instead if anything
-
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) More than likely they were giving Danks a chance to try to prove he had something left so the Sox could potentially move him. He can't do that out of the bullpen. Johnson could have easily been worse. Danks had more value than you are giving him credit for. He was 59th last year amongst all starters in fWAR. Fangraphs placed his value on the open market at $14.2 million, basically right even with what he was paid. I'm hoping we add Maeda. Then hope Danks does well and we can move him at the deadline and slide EJ in his spot.

Just heard on the radio while talking about Buster Olney and the outfield market, that he said teams are waiting for the market to come to them. I like hearing this in regards to our White Sox.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 12:06 PM) Celebrate all you want, but the most important part of the offseason is whether or not JR will open the wallet on Upton, Gordon or Cespedes. Do that, you win back everyone you've lost and skepticism diminishes almost completely. Start Opening Day with Avi, Saladino and LaRoche in the line-up and expectations are tempered. Half-assed and pointless. Hanley Ramiez, CarGo, Ethier, Blackmon, Peralta, Fowler, Span or Parra leaves you somewhere in-between. 3/4's of the way but that undoubtedly means the Tigers and/or Royals have one of Upton, Gordon, Davis, Desmond or Cespedes. I'd really like to stick it to Detroit and get Cespedes. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

I'll listen later but wow sounds like an underwhelming interview. That station sucks. Always turns into a Cubs discussion and the guys sound so clueless.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
Bigsoxhurt35 replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Listened to Frazier yesterday and today. He seems really cool and should be good for this lineup, defense and clubhouse. Can't wait to see him play. I'm going to say it again. I'll give a round of applause for turning an injury plagued Peavy into Avi (whether he pans out remains to be seen), JBW, Montas and Rondon. Which then turned into Lawrie and Frazier. Good job by the front office because no one really paid attention to those guys minus Avi. I read a lot about Rondon and Montas. Even Wendelken (if that's how it's spelled). I even went and seen Rondon play in the minors. My hope is he turns into a helluva utility infielder. But to turn Montas and JB into those guys, one of which is an All-Star is pretty good. I'll bash these guys when they deserve it because they're in the paid to get it right business, but I'll also give them praise when they deserve it. So good job guys. Hope things turn out well. -
Some people need to pump the brakes until something happens in the OF. Lots of smoke out there. Hahn doesn't want to give anything away. The market for the outfield, outside of Heyward, is slow. That definitely benefits us. I fully expect to snag one. I don't really mind which as long as it's one of the big name ones that can impact this offense. Cespedes just feels like he belongs here to me. I would love to see him behind Abreu. The Cuban Bombers baby!!

Rick Hahn was on MLBN just now. Talked a little about how the deal came together. Down played the Upton Cespedes talk and said it was overblown from yesterday.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 12:17 AM) Or he is just writing what his bosses are asking him to write. Could be some of that but he seems to be so clueless at times.
