  1. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 04:53 PM) Why the f*** can't the Sox take Bastardo if that's the deal-breaker right now? Meadows is the dealbreaker A yankees - pirates three way trade likely had Glasnow + Frazier + more coming to the Sox the Pirates alone are not willing to include Meadows in the deal, and without him the Sox are not really all that interested in moving forward
  2. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 04:49 PM) Eating money is a necessity to doing a legitimate rebuild. While they've never eaten salary (that I can remember) for players they traded away, they have done so recently for players they dumped for nothing. They also took on salary for a bad player last June. So it wouldn't make sense for ownership not to let Hahn eat money to get better prospects. Why eat money if we do not have to? The Nationals want to keep their best prospects off the table in a Robertson deal? Ok, fine. But we are not also going to kick in salary relief for no reason just to help them out. Money is a negotiating point. If the Nats wants cash, then send better prospects to Chicago Hell, I'm sure most of Soxtalk would eat Robertson's entire contract for Robles + another prospect or two (not happening)
  3. QUOTE (turnin' two @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) Well, see, that's exactly why I made the point of saying I wasn't comparing him in anything but stature and criticism thereof. As for the Cueto thing, well, are you saying you would feel more optimistic about Lopez if he were fatter? (Fat emoji??) I'm just asking for posters to make a list of current mlb starting pitchers who are 6' or less and also 185 lbs or less I guaranty you that is a very short list
  4. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) Never in a million years would one think that Q's contract would be a problem for a team lol As fans we have to remember that this is still a business first and foremost. While dollars and cents might not matter very much to fans, they especially do at the ownership level I don't think it was the Pirates who backed out at the ownership level, I think it was the Yankees The Nats are in a tough spot, and might be forced into giving up a significant prospect or two to coax the White Sox into helping eat some of Robertson's salary
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) Two different trades died at the ownership approval level (other team's) according to Hahn. Have to guess it was Q and Robertson http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/02/whit...p;post-id=85363 I think the Quintana 3 way trade with the Yankees and Pirates fell apart at the last minute Xmas Eve I also feel that the Robertson deal fell apart at the ownership level of the Nationals who were unwilling to expand payroll and move the prospects. They want to Sox to pick up a large amount of the contract, to which Hahn flatly is telling them "no"
  6. QUOTE (turnin' two @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) Lopez is 6'0 -185 Pedro Martinez 5'11-170 There were a whole bunch of experts that thought Pedro was destined for the pen because of his size. That is why he was available in a trade, twice. In no way am I saying Lopez is the next Pedro. I am saying that pitchers can be great regardless of height and build. It'd be quite a bungle in the jungle to banish him to the pen too quickly. Comparing Lopez to one of the best starting pitchers of all time is a huge reach http://www.fangraphs.com/community/six-fee...short-pitchers/ The odds are just not great that a pitcher like Lopez will stick as a starter long term. Johnny Cueto is 5'11, but is also 215 lbs
  7. QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) Robertson's value is at an all-time low. I'd prefer to see the White Sox risk holding him until the deadline. Not necessarily Dealing Robertson right now allows us to showcase Nate Jones for a deadline deal, which could be very lucrative if he pitches like he did in 2016
  8. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 02:23 PM) Still not a fan of that upright, lack of follow through. It does help with command however. He's one that will be interesting to follow his injury history. Lopez will more than likely end up as a reliever. Very few starting pitchers with his size and frame have held up as starters. I hope that I am wrong, but I still feel he could be a dynamic reliever for us
  9. QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 02:21 PM) Cmon Nats, make another impulse purchase and live to regret it later! We all do it. They did this to themselves really. Part of having a window of contention means that you have to make difficult choices that likely impact your future ability to compete. When it is your time to win, go all in. I think a deal eventually gets done, and I think Soxtalk will be pleased with the overall return
  10. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/renteri...-job-to-do/amp/ David Robertson also has value as a proven closer and set-up man and is at or near the contending Washington Nationals’ priority list. Some believe Robertson could go this week, if the two sides come to an agreement on prospects going to the Sox in return and the amount of salary the Nationals are willing to pay. Robertson has $11 million and $12 million on the last two years of his four-year deal, and the Sox historically are not big on eating contract dollars. The ball is the the Nationals court at this point White Sox absolutely are open to moving Robertson, but not unless the prospect return is considerable I'm guessing the Nationals are taking a hard look at 3 choices: 1) Stand pat and enter the 2017 season with a closer by committee approach. Hugely volatile and could prove costly on a team in a two year window. Deadline additions might be extremely costly (think Robles). 2) Trade 2-3 decent prospects and absorb the entire remaining contract 3) Trade 2-3 higher quality prospects and the Sox kick in some money They really are in a tough spot, as the farm is nowhere near as deep as it used to be after trading for Eaton. With a rapidly closing window Rizzo will likely need to bite the bullet and offer up more than he is comfortable with to get a deal done.
  11. QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 01:11 PM) Very cool seeing him on a top 100 list for the first time! Nice getting Hansen some love, but I feel like he has to prove more to be considered a top 100 prospect He blew away rookie ball hitters, but still needs to show more control against better competition
  12. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Juan Soto is a guy I really want. He's pretty much my age so that means that he should be debuting right around when the Sox are good again. Sign me up. We all would love to net Soto from the Nats in a Robertson deal, but I don't see Washington being willing to part with Robles, Fedde or Soto
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) It's an interesting list, but I wonder how many actual GMs would trade Moncada straight up for JP Crawford. Zero That is the first list that I have seen placing Crawford above Moncada
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) What is really nice is to see a couple of guys on that list that we actually drafted. If Hansen carries his performance from 2016 over to 2017 then he will for sure be a top 100 prospect by mid season Hansen is still a high risk prospect, both to remain healthy and improve his control over the course of a whole season If everything breaks right he could be a #2 starter at ceiling, the floor is never making it out of the minors and the control never comes He was a very good second round pick due to the big upside though
  15. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 11:58 AM) What about Soto, Kieboom, and Voth for Robertson and $10 mill (5 this year and 5 next)? I don't see the Nats parting with Soto, Kieboom and Voth for Robertson and $10 million I would do that if I were Hahn, for sure The Nats system would be completely devoid of any depth though. Their future seriously in doubt after trading away 6 of their top prospects in one offseason
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 11:52 AM) That is kind of how I look at it. If the Nats won't let the Sox into the top few guys, no need to pay up on Robertson's deal. 100% agree, and hence the "stalemate" Nats are making the top tier prospects off the table, only including B- level prospects and below, and asking for the Sox to eat a significant amount of money Sox aren't stupid and know that the Nats are in huge need of a reliable closer I'd offer 2 options to Rizzo: 1) Kieboom + Voth or Glover for Robertson, Nats pay entire contract 2) Fedde or Soto + Severino or Watson for Robertson, Sox pick up considerable amount of the contract
  17. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 11:06 AM) Which Nationals prospect is even worth eating a lot of money for? Robles is the only one I can think of and he probably isn't available. If the Nationals aren't willing to offer anything decent for him, then the Sox should just hold him and wait it out. I think he has a good chance of being a quality closer in 2017 which would increase his value at the deadline. That is the issue I think The Sox do not want to receive middling prospects back AND have to eat a large chunk of salary to make a deal happen If we are not getting Fedde or Soto as a headliner, I don't feel the Sox need to be kicking in all that much cash to make a deal happen. The Nats system really falls off sharply after Robles, Fedde and Soto The rumored Kieboom and Voth package is ok, but not if they want us to pay up as well
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 07:32 AM) Such an odd winter for this stuff to still be active. It seems like the "stalemate" is over Robertson's contract. I'm guessing the Sox do not want to pick up much, if any, of the contract given what free agent relievers were signing for this offseason. https://www.outsidepitchmlb.com/david-rober...nationals/63029 The rumored package of Kieboom and Voth seems fairly reasonable, but obviously I would prefer Fedde or Soto involved. Robles is not happening. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/12/9/1...spects-for-2017 This recent article ranks Kieboom #4 ("B-") and Voth #6 ("B-") in the Nationals system. Both solid prospects in their own right, but neither have a hugely high ceiling. "4) Carter Kieboom, SS, Grade B-: Age 19, first round pick in 2016 from high school in Georgia; hit .244/.323/.452 with four homers, 12 walks, 43 strikeouts in 135 at-bats in rookie ball; rookie ball stats showed more power but less batting average than anticipated, granted sample is small; expected to be a solid across-the-board hitter when he matures with more pop than typical for shortstop; strong throwing arm, may shift to third base if he loses too much range as he gets older. ETA: late 2020." "6) Austin Voth, RHP, Grade B-: Age 24, fifth round pick in 2013 from University of Washington; 3.15 ERA with 133/57 K/BB in 157 innings in Triple-A, 138 hits; fastball generally 88-93 with a touch higher at times; plays up due to command and contrast with solid-average slider and change-up; whole tends to be greater than the sum of the parts here; should be workhorse fourth starter or reliable bullpen presence. ETA 2017." Quality depth for our system for sure, but not the sort of prospects that I would want to eat a significant portion (or any) of Robertson's contract for
  19. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 10:30 AM) This thread needs Con Te Giolito, his deluge of posts, and his pants-pissing routine that assumes that Q will SURELY get injured if he isn't traded NOW for any meager pittance. Whatever happened to that guy? Hahaha hr was a sky is falling poster I'm sure he's lurking. The message board needs a few of those to freshen things up
  20. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Feb 11, 2017 -> 12:24 PM) I find it plausible. Sox scouts may be very low on one or more of those top 50 prospects. Just because they are ranked on some prospect list doesnt mean the Sox value them that way. No way the pirates offered six players for quintana. That would make very little sense.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 10:17 PM) No Martes or Tucker is what we heard earlier. Being unwilling to part with any of Musgrove, Martes or Tucker is crazy I doubt Hahn would have even bothered listening if all three of those players were off the table in a Quintana deal
  22. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) Do we have to taken Martes in an Astros package as a given? I say, why waste all your capital (so to speak) on another SP (and one who's not as good as Giolito or Kopech at that). Let the Astros keep Musgrove and Martes, who can nominally contribute to their big league team today. If the Sox deal with the Astros (not my preferred choice anyway), I'd rather see Q for Tucker + Reed + Laureano + one of Paulino/Whitley/Perez. There is zero chance a deal gets done that does not include at least one of Musgrove or Martes Tucker alone is not a good enough prospect to headline a Quintana deal. If the price were as low as Tucker + Reed + Laureano + Paulino/Whitley/Perez then more than half the mlb would be calling. That package could easily be beaten by the Braves, Pirates, Yankiees, etc
  23. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 09:48 AM) If that's light then I don't see it getting done. 4 years of a top 20 mlb starter should return a king's ransom The Sox need a very good third piece otherwise this deal does not make sense for them Make Houston cave or wait until the deadline. Hahn has time to get this deal done, no need to rush and take less
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 09:41 AM) And even if he did, the idea that accepting anything less is compromising is beyond ridculous. A starting ask is not going to be Hahn's make or break point. Hahn asked for Moncada, Kopech, & Devers for Sale initially and guess what, he ended up accepting less. Hahn has a realistic goal of what's acceptable in his mind and he probably won't drift far past that point, but there is no way in hell Hahn is holding firm at Musgrove, Martes, & Tucker unless he's the worst negotiator of all time. I'm not suggesting compromise won't eventually happen, but if his ask was Musgrove + Martes + Tucker the Sox are not going to take Martes + Tucker + depth as a package
  25. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 09:29 AM) Martes, Tucker, Fisher/Laureano, Stubbs? Too light in my opinion Musgrove has mid rotation potential and a high floor due to his excellent control. He was a top 50 prospect going into last season (and still would be top 50 if eligible) Fisher/Laureano + Stubbs does not equal the value Musgrove can bring at all I'm bullish on what Musgrove can eventually become. I feel like he will become a true #3 starter on a contending team.
