Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
steveno89 replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 07:22 PM) I'm all for making that argument to whoever the Owner was that vetoed the prospective trade ! Hahn mentioned (in the interview with Chuck Garfein at CSN) that the return package in that proposed deal was constructed similar to the deal for Sale. We can't be sure exactly what he meant, but it sounds like it may have been a deal that was centered around a very highly rated prospect. That is also the impression I git from his other comments in that interview. It had to be the Pirates and Yankees three way trade. Yankees ownership backed out last minute on Xmas Eve. I'll bet it was something like: Pirates get Quintana Yankees get Cutch Sox get Glasnow + Frazier + significantly more -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 10:18 AM) Hopeful draft pick spots: 2017: #11 obviously 2018: Top 3 (if everything goes right, #1) 2019: Top 6 or 7? 2020: 10-15 range, inching closer Obviously if we end up becoming good enough for contention sooner, than even better. But yeah, I'm expecting at least 3 bad/mediocre seasons. Guys gotta get through some growing pains. Not everyone will just come up and click right away. If by 2020 we are not at least a .500 team then the rebuild has not been done the right way 2017 and 2018 are total write offs, likely 2019 we should be seeing some progress, 2020 we need to be .500 or better Your estimates are reasonable, but we all should hope they turn out better than that -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) It would really take a miracle for this team to be anywhere close to contention, and even if it was a collapse would be right around the corner. This team just doesn't have the horses for 162 games. Fans need to be prepared for three rough seasons, but with 2020-2023 behind our prime window to contend 2017 = awful 2018 = subpar, but slight improvement 2019 = on the right track, ideally get back to .500 2020-2023 contenders -
QUOTE (Wanne @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) My Dad and I...doing our usual State of the Sox talk before spring training...I brought up that fact how Hansen continually gets overlooked as a top prospect. Probably one of the bigger steals of any drafts that I can recall recently given where he was taken. I agree with jerksticks somewhat...that he's soon to be a Top 10 spec. Guy is just too good to live in anonymity... For Hansen to be a top 10 mlb prospect he would have to seriously sharpen his command and control, plus stay healthy this season 157 innings, 1.94 ERA, 40 BB, 185 K's across high A and lots of AA would likely skyrocket him up the rankings His control would need to develop from 40/45 grad to 55 grade in order for that to happen

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 04:59 PM) The thought is that the Pirates budget is maxed out and they need to move payroll before bringing on Q's salary. They can also use the prospects to throw in a Q deal as a Cutch trade takes Meadows out of play. Pirates deal is dead not because of money, but because the Sox are insisting that Meadows be in any deal. Pittsburgh is unwilling to include him -
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 16, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) So stoked for this guy. I think the Sox got him for an absolute steal and it would be great if he had a season similar to last year. My predictions - 9-4, 2.98 ERA, 134.2 IP, 40 BB's, 145 K's, 1.17 WHIP, and 9.7 K/9 in 20 starts, most of which at Kannapolis but hopefully he gets promoted to Winston-Salem at some point too. If Hansen lowers his walk rate to 2.67 BB/9 as you suggest, he would definitely be a top 100 prospect I doubt he is able to improve his control that much, but I could see him tossing 145 innings, 11-6 record, 54 walks, 159 k's, 3.14 ERA

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 11:29 PM) Cubs are planning on using Schwarber in LF (LOL) and as an emergency catcher behind Contreras and Montero. I don't think the Cubs need to make any trades but after seeing Schwarber boot some balls in ST they might conclude that the best thing for Schwarber's career is to trade him to an AL club. I'd like to see the Sox make a pitch for him if things turn in that direction. Schwarber in the outfield will be ugly. He is a classic American League 1B/DH. Catching is out of the question, and he is a liability in the outfield. I think it would be hard for the Cubs to trade such a valuable bat at this point in his career though.

Baseball America: Top 30 White Sox Prospects
steveno89 replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) One list doesn't have Guererro/Clark, the other has them above Collins. Weird. People just trying to make their stakes. Agreed That might be the most glowing report on Basabe that I have seen Collins is absolutely a better prospect at this point due to the potential for plus hit tool and plus power, even despite defensive concerns -

QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 08:05 AM) Weird. They've had a rocky existence thus far, after a bit of hype. This list is considerably different than most others we have seen It is higher on players like Basabe, Lopez and Adams and is lower on Collins, Giolito -
QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 05:06 PM) Doubt HR's approaching it from the perspective of team control Even still, there's not much argument that Moncada is talented enough to be at the mlb level right away. The problem is that he is not a finished product and could really benefit from spending time at the AAA level in 2017. Calling him up too soon immediately puts a lot of pressure on him to perform and be a franchise player Let him focus on defense, having quality at bats, and developing at his own pace. Eventually he will force his way onto the mlb roster

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 07:26 AM) It's cool but he still doesn't account for the fact that they can't get on base. Yup While the organization has clearly taken a new focus on drafting players that have shown the ability to get on base (Collins, Fisher, Call). Players at the mlb level still need quite a bit of work in this regard. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 07:51 AM) On the Garfien podcast, one of the bloggers said KW told him they had an eye-popping deal fall through at the very end of the process during the offseason The Q to the Pirates with the Yankees in a three way trade fell apart at the ownership level I think the Sox would have gotten a massive haul back, but the Yankees backed out -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 07:49 AM) Suggestions: Put players on there that are currently on the squad like Quintana, Abreu, Frazier? Or should we put the kids on there like Moncada, Giolito, Kopech, Collins? I get the argument for current players, but given the direction of the franchise I think the kids might be more suitable The future of the franchise is undoubtedly in their hands, they have the keys to the kingdom. Count me in for the kids.

Alex Reyes fails physical, might need surgery
steveno89 replied to GGajewski18's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) Agree. Wacha would be the smart thing to do. The Cards can always look to add a pitcher during the season if Wacha doesn't perform. The big concern is the overall health of the rotation. Question marks certainly exist, and most of their pitching prospects are not choose to the MLB. They can afford a Reyes injury, but if another starter goes down they will have issues -

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) Entertaining the idea of the Cards looking into Gonzalez, I wonder if Sierra would be too much to ask for. Interesting thought. Sierra plus a lottery ticket would be a nice package for Gonzalez It's likely they roll with watcha though -

QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) Personally I am not a huge fan of trading your best asset for a guy who just went down for Tommy John. Call me crazy. Way to risky, plus I don't think the Cardinals are looking to move the package it would take. Sox are being rightfully selective about the quintana trade, and a Reyes based package makes little sense. Even if Reyes interested the sox, I don't like their other prospects enough to make a deal happen -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 02:12 PM) It would be tempting to trade for him and send Q to St. Louis. Q helps them win now. The Sox get a potential better pitcher next year. The odds are highly likely that he returns to form after the surgery. It is a gamble but not really much of one. I highly doubt the sox would accept an injured pitcher as the primary headliner in a quintana deal. Even if the risk is small, why take it? STL still has watcha to be its fifth starter -

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) Don't see Cards as a match at all. Outside of Reyes, they have no top 50 guys. Also can't see them unloading farm after losing their picks Reyes getting injured is not likely to result in St Louis deciding to pursue a major trade like Quintana Also, I think the Sox are interested solely in elite prospects in exchange for Quintana, and beyond Reyes their system does not currently have any -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 12:06 PM) Apparently Reyes could be out for the year, so St. Louis might jump back into the Q sweepstakes after all. Very doubtful STL does not have the farm system past Reyes to get a deal done in my opinion -
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 11, 2017 -> 11:32 AM) Harold Reynolds, commenting on Moncada at #2, said he felt he should go north w Sox and learn on the job rather than at AAA. He felt playing in Boston last year should benefit him despite the poor showing because of exposure to guys like Ortiz and Pedroia. Reynolds is a moron I do not care if Moncada homers in EVERY single at bat in spring training, the Sox must wait until late May to call him up so they do not start his service clock and gain and extra season of team control The Sox are not contenders this season, why burn a year of control for any of our top prospects?

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 11:53 AM) MLB retweeted LangoschMLB's avatar Jenifer Langosch @LangoschMLB 1m #STLCards have not specified what the area of concern is with Reyes, but Matheny did say: "There must be a significant reason to do this." Wow, that would be a major blow to the Cardinals if he has to miss an extended period of time. They were counting on him to be rotation ready in 2017 -
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) I'm so excited for this guy. My predictions - 8-4, 2.61 ERA, 178 K's, 1.18 WHIP, 13.7 K/9, in 18 starts (3 with Winston Salem, 11 with Birmingham, 4 with Charlotte) Innings will probably be monitored for him, so he might not go very deep into his starts, but I expect him to post ridiculous K numbers in 2017. That would be an absolutely phenomenal 2017 season for Kopech if he ends the season in Charlotte Realistically I think he starts the season in high A Charlotte, eventually earning the promotion to AA at some point A 13.7 K/9 is nuts, but I'd really like to see him improve his walk rate this season, all while building up his innings total Getting the BB/9 below 4.0 per nine would be a step forward, as would pitching more than 100 innings and staying healthy

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) I didn't know this would become a thing in the thread. But I like it. I absolutely am not suggesting he should be put in the pen right away. He absolutely should be given the chance to start. Realistically, I think he ends up in the pen, albeit with the potential to be an electric arm in setup or closing role

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 11:55 PM) I understand that. I said myself if I had to choose it would 've been Benintendi over Moncada but since the thread is about the Baseball prospectus list which ranks Moncada at 5 it's not just Benintendi. I don't think Moncada has been a universal #2 pick on the other lists either though I am not 100 % sure of that. Moncada seems to have a higher ceiling, while Benintendi appears to have a higher floor It is likely that both are excellent players
