  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 03:11 PM) I think its a step down to be honest As a Husker fan it pains me to say it is a step down, Oregon's offense (albeit it was all started by Chip Kelly) is the most know offense in college. However, I could see Scott coming back to Lincoln as OC if he were also made coach in waiting. Riley is 61.
  2. Oregon St. was 52-219-5 from 1972-1996. Under Riley they went 93-80 in 14 years. From 1893 (that is 1893 not a typo) to 2002 Oregon St. had 7 seasons where they won 8 games or more. 2003 to now they have won 8 games or more 6 times. In 2012 Mike Riley's Oregon St team beat Wisconsin 10-7. Nebraska beat Wisconsin 30-27 that year and then lost to them 31-70 in the Big Ten Championship. I also agree that this could be Chizik like in that he went from a garbage program to a good program. Chizik was 5-19 at ISU though. I would compare OSU before Riley to KSU before Snyder. KSU had the distinct advantage of the local JUCOs in KS that helped them build, that and Bill Snyder is a damn good coach. I just hope that with the resources that NU will offer Riley that he can make a jump to the next level as a coach.
  3. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 12:07 PM) So all they need to do now is buy a Heisman level QB to come play for them and then get an offensive coordinator who is the real brains behind the operation and they can compete for a national title, suck when they offensive coordinator leaves, fire Riley, and then hire the offensive coordinator back to win again? So hire Scott Frost as OC. Give $200 K to a "church" ran by a recruits dad. Win NC. Fire Riley. Then bring Frost back to go play in NC again. Sign me up.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 07:49 AM) First and second hand knowledge from the man himself. OK thank you. Was he ever contacted by NU?
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 07:34 AM) I can tell you right now Tressel is out with 100% certainty. And you know this how?
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 1, 2014 -> 04:43 PM) 2 years? I think it would be a good hire. Nubs clearly wanted someone who would make Nebraska their dream job for years. Never underestimate the alumni's love for a true son. It might not work out but that's why you don't make change for change's sake. I want someone who wins stuff that matters. At worst conference titles every couple of years. Not just wins over subpar teams. I am a Nebraska fan and most I talk to do not want Frost as the head man now. He is in his 2nd year as an OC now. If he did not play at NU he would not be considered for the job. If he would be hired as HC at NU and turned out to be great then I would be happy as hell. But our AD Shawn Eichorst would be banking his own job on a OC that just took over Chip Kelly's system in Oregon and would be incredibly dumb for doing that. Frost is smart, he's recruited well at Oregon, and has been around some brilliant coaches in his time. Bill Walsh, Tom Osborne, Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick, Chip Kelly, so it would not shock me if he were to be successful as a head coach. It also wouldn't shock me if he fails due to not having much experience. If Frost were to be hired and be successful it would depend on his assistants he brought in. This is where Pelini failed miserably. He hired and promoted his buddies instead of getting solid coaches. Instead of promoting Vince Marrow to a full time assistant job and getting rid of Barney Cotton, he lets Marrow leave to go to Kentucky. His recruiting in Ohio then vanishes. He could have hired Chad Morriss as his OC instead of Tim Beck. He fails to do this. Morriss goes to Clemson instead and is now heading to SMU as the head coach there. He could have hired Doug Colman as his LB coach. The guy is an awesome recruiter and knows NJ area very well. Instead Colman is now a coach for the Houston Texans and Pelini hires Ross Els who is terrible. Right now nobody knows who Nebraska's next coach will be except for 3 or 4 people in the loop, ie the AD, Chancellor, the new coach and his wife. The BOR are out of the loop and the top boosters right now don't know. Brett Bielema being a name for the job that popped up yesterday was complete BS and most likely started by his agent to get him and his assistants more $. Our AD's mentor was Wisconsin's AD Barry Alvarez, and Bielema left on bad terms. Not to mention Bielema's large buyout. Every day there is a new candidate these are all names being thrown around: Jim Tressel, Scott Frost, Jim McIlwaine, Dan Mullen, Joe Moglia, Kirby Smart, Craig Bohl, Mark Richt, Brett Bielema, Kyle Whittingham, Paul Chryst, Mark Stoops, Pat Narduzzi, David Shaw, Jim Harbaugh, Greg Schiano, Tom Herman, Pat Fitzgerald, John Gruden and Jerry Kill to name a few. No one knows anything.
  7. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 01:05 PM) I agree with the first half of the post, but you start losing me by saying Wisconsin has less talent. The problem for Nebraska is they don't have that much talent. That's a big reason why they are losing to good teams. Nebraska was a blue blood program, but in modern college football where every team is on TV and every program gets plenty of exposure, recruiting to Lincoln isn't as easy as it used to be. The bottom line is recruiting at a high level without a dense local area to pull from is tough. Oklahoma is similar to Nebraska except the proximity to Texas recruiting is a huge difference. Being in the Big Ten probably hurts Nebraska's recruiting as well. I think you can argue for Pelini being fired, and you brought up some of those points. I just don't buy the elite program deserves better part. Pelini's overall record should be perfectly acceptable. I will say that the lack of apparent upside is the problem. If he had some 7 or 8 win seasons mixed in with some 10 or 11 win seasons fans wouldn't be so upset. The 3+ losses every year and lack of a great, memorable season is why he is fired. According to every recruiting site Nebraska has signed more talent than Wisconsin since 2009, so yes Nebraska has more talent than Wisconisn. Rivals has NU's worst class in the last 5 years as still better than Wisconsin's best class. Is Wisconsin coached better, yes. Has Wisconsin developed talent better than Nebraska, yes. Wisconsin ran 4 basic plays against NU. We stayed in 2 high safeties all day. No adjustments. I also was not calling Melvin Gordon not talented, dude is legit awesome. We also lost to Minnesota 2 years in a row. Minnesota does not have better talent than Nebraska. I didn't say Nebraska deserved better, I said they can do better. Whether they deserve better or not is someone's opinion. From 1962-2001 Nebraska was 398-78-5 with 5 National Championships. Since then 110-59 with nary a Confernce title. Frank Solich was fired and has been at Ohio since. Bill Callahan was fired and is the Dallas Cowboys OC. We will see where Pelini ends up. Get the right coach and it can be done. Recruiting at a high level to Nebraska can be done, Bill Callahan proved that. He just wasn't a good head coach. His 2008 class was shaping up to be another top 10 class at NU. 3 OL decommited after he was fired that are in the NFL now Riley Reiff, Dan Hoch, and Trevor Robinson . Same with Jonas Gray, and Blaine Gabbert both in NFL both decommited. Recruiting to Nebraska at a high level can be done. Bo Pelini and Frank Solich were just not good recruiters. I agree with you as to that is why he was fired, well at least part of it. Some of Pelini's off the field stuff and on field conduct I'm sure were also factored into the decision.
  8. As a lifelong Husker fan I agree with the decision to fire Pelini. Nebraska may have won 9 games every year under him but they we were beating nobody good. Our best win this year was against 7-5 Iowa. Bo Pelini at Nebraska is 5-18 against teams that finished in the Top 25. 0-10 against teams that finished in the Top 10. In 7 years he had 0 conference championships, 0 BCS games. The last 2 years NU finished 5th in the Big Ten and 3rd in their division. The last 2 years NU played 4 teams that finished in the Top 25 and lost them all. Not to mention the blowout losses to teams with lesser talent (408 yards to Melvin Gordon really!). Nebraska is a blue blood program and can do better. To those who say who can they get better? I don't know until we try, all I know is Pelini wasn't going to lead NU to anything worth a damn. Oklahoma sucked after Switzer and fired 2 coaches before they got Stoops. Bama had multiple coaches between Gene Stallings and Saban. In college football it is all about your head coach, if Nebraska gets a good one we will be back to being good quickly. The Big Ten West isn't very good.
  9. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) I am pretty sure his BABIP is .340, not .387 I dont think this is a fluke stretch by any means. With guys like him and Micah, it take a while for them to adjust to the league, and once they adjust, they will stay consistent and rarely go on extended slumps. You are correct. My bad I didn't take out the HRs.
