They dont have any. They just whiffed on 3 straight OF's because they couldn't muster up the dough. I dont buy this "Cespedes had his heart set on New York" for a second, the dude's played for 4 teams in 2 seasons and at the onset of the offseason the Mets took themselves out of the running. The Mets, who have no money because Madoff took them to the cleaners, straight outbid the Sox.
-
Well since we traded Trayce Thompson getting Cespedes is kind of a big deal.

How much did Rick Hahn improve the catching position?

I am hoping the Sox have Navarro at DH and Avila behind the plate (and LaRoche very far away from the team) for much of the season. -
Plenty of great ballplayers smoke. These guys aren't playing wide receiver.

The reason he hasn't taken the 5 year offer is because its no more a 5 year deal than the White Sox 3 year offer (that we all know is out there). This is a matter of branding a contract proposal in the media to screw with the Mets. The Nationals probably offered Cespedes the same 3 year + 2 option years deal the White Sox likely have, with the Mets tagging a little behind because their financial situation is so broken. The Nationals dont want the Mets to keep Cespedes, and if the Mets must keep Cespedes the Nationals want the Mets to pay a steep price for the privilege. So they offer a deal that's already been offered but leak to their people in the media that it's a 5 year offer, when in essence either an opt-out, team option, player option, mutual option or combination shortens the likely length of the deal to 3 years. I'm almost certain that is how its playing out. If the Nationals are offering a true 5y/$100 guaranteed deal they would have Cespedes right now.

Gammons is officially an old coot.

The Sox have a lot of players come up from the minors, they just all wind up traded for NL players. Not complaining about it, just the way it is.
-
A trade? Maybe a demotion or a release or something, but other than Robertson none of these guys are worth anything.

Dollars not known. That's the key, the Orioles offered Cespedes 5 years too, remember? The question is if Cespedes takes a higher AAV over fewer years, more years for a lesser AAV or just the most overall money? The Sox were close, the Orioles were close, now the Nationals are close. It's almost like being on the cusp of signing Yoenis Cespedes then falling back to the pack is a rite of passage to actually sign him. BTW if I was a GM I could not take an agency named Roc Nation seriously and would constantly be holding back laughter.

We're going to get to at least 400 pages before this motherf***er signs mark my word.
-
This won't end today, and probably won't end this week. Wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't end this month. I hope I'm wrong.
-
We're a lock for 300 pages and nothing happening. That's impressive.
-
If the Sox do sign Cespedes the next priority has to be getting Melky back to his old "training" regimen. Hopefully one that's less conspicuous. A clean Melky in LF isnt going to be doing the Sox any favors.
-
If the Sox miss the playoffs because Sale/Q/Rodon get hurt and nobody steps up that's just baseball.
-
If the pitching stays as healthy as Sox pitchers usually are it wins the Central.
-
Will this thread beat the Peavy thread?
-
That's the media.

I have a feeling he won't sign for another week.

Keep Forgetting about Carson Fulmer

There's little reason to doubt the Sox scouting of college pitchers. -
That's the problem. Boras tried putting it out there that Davis would play the OF and nobody bought it. He tricked the Orioles into competing with themselves over Davis then turned down $157m, it's baffling.
-
My guess is Davis goes to the O's in the next 24 hours and the clock on Cespedes gets reset. I wouldn't be shocked if he's still on the market during Spring Training.

I-80 purposefully avoids major cities (other than NYC, Chicago and SF). Doesn't break off too much because E of Chicago almost all of it is toll road. Sometimes it loops around or bypasses, but that doesnt matter. Example: coming W on 80 towards Council Bluffs 80 splits into 480. But 480 brings you right back to 80, it's just like 5 miles out of the way. You may screw it up at Echo UT where it splits with 84, but then youll wind up in Portland/Seattle and can just head S on 101 to wherever you want on the coast.
