  1. Should probably take it as a sign to keep him when he's one of the few players on this garbage roster other teams are interested in.
  2. Wait the Sox have a crowded OF? Who's crowding it? All the negative WAR bums?
  3. That's a 70 win lineup if I've ever seen one. Once a pitcher gers past ???? and Lawrie (not the toughest out in the world himself) it's cruise control for 2 innings.
  4. I'm not trying to get political here, but DiCaro cynically exploits a victim mentality to insulate herself from criticism while she deliberately seeks out persecution on social media. It's just trolls trolling trolls to infinity and she milks her BS protected status as a woman to pretend like she's somehow above the fray.
  5. High A lifer with multiple arm surgeries was probably their target.
  6. Well in order to find out he'll have to get AB's, and when LaRoche gets AB's he has the unique ability to drag the entire offense right down the tubes. Its very possible that the best $13m the Sox could spend to improve the offense is to send LaRoche packing. Like, for that particular amount of money it is the absolute best thing the Sox can do to improve their team. It is the very definition of addition by subtraction.
  7. Well at least they tried. At this point if the Sox are willing to eat $8m just to wave him goodbye might as well just eat the whole $13m and release him.
  8. Still need another OF and a 2B and/or SS. Preferably both a SS and 2B but one of the MIF can be a short term bridge to Anderson. I'm not believing in this team until Carlos Sanchez and Tyler Saladino are relegated to the bench or back to Charlotte. I'm also not buying the Sox if Avi and Melky are starting every day in the OF. The DH is whatever, use it get guys days off from the field or whatever. Right now, assuming Lawrie is about a league average hitter, only 1/3 of the Sox lineup is worth a damn. I can survive with the platoon at catcher and Melky. That leaves DH, SS, 2B and a COF as completely and utterly hopeless. The DH can't be fixed, but the other three can at least be replaced with capable players. This team will still go nowhere if the team defense is still putrid (it's still putrid) and the bottom 3rd of the order will need a miracle to hit 20 HR collectively and bat anything over .240. If the season started tomorrow my prediction would be last in the AL Central and another protected pick.
  9. Atlanta trying to tank by grabbing as many 2015 Sox as possible. Can't fault the strategy, maybe Hahn should take advantage? Hello Braves, your table is right over here, can we interest you in an Avisail Garcia, Carlos Sanchez, Adam LaRoche or Melky Cabrera. All 4 are on special!
  10. You need at least a seasons worth of defensive metrics before they mean anything.
  11. I agree, but I don't think Trayce is involved.
  12. Well last year's excitement translated to.....
  13. I will take a 3B with good defense and some pop. If he doesn't walk much oh well, Sox aren't really in a position to acquire a player who does everything well. My idea all along has been grab a handful of players who do a minimum of two things very well, and maybe aren't great the rest. Emphasis on baserunning and defense. Matsuda provides a defensive upgrade and probably some HR power, that's enough to keep me sated.
  14. Did United drop their sponsorship or are they just updating the OF sign?
  15. Japan is pretty much on the other side of the planet from San Diego and Chicago. Are there non-stops to Tokyo out of SD? I know there are out of ORD. Not that it matters. If he's coming to the USA he's going to be far from home. Oh and I don't think a Japanese player is going to feel right at home down at Cermak and Wentworth. Not all asians are the same lol.
  16. The price would make it one step forward, two steps back. Basically upgrading Quintana's spot in the rotation at the cost of at least one other spot in the rotation (Fulmer and/or Rodon) and the entirety of the farm system. Probably have to throw in Eaton or something too.
  17. I would really like to see Danny Trevathan signed. Probably a guard also, whichever one Baltimore chooses not to keep. Possibly jump in on a CB who isn't Josh Norman or Sean Smith. Other than that, find the 5 technique and OLB via the draft and lock up Jeffery. Maintain cap flexibility going forward to keep the budding core in tact and use cap space in 2017 as a contingency for any moves that may go awry.
  18. He has a son, yes. I think he was engaged or something when the Sox signed him, relations with Cuba hadn't been normalized at that point. There was some article about the struggles of him being away from his family.
  19. I don't think Callahan, Amos, Christian Jones will be no-names much longer.
  20. My idea from the start has been to acquire Billy Hamilton, put Trayce in RF and Eaton in LF then rolling with an Avi/Melky 4OF and DH platoon. LaRoche even gets a few DH AB's, since this plan packs 5 OF on the roster while only soaking 1 bench spot. This matters because trading LaRoche is impossible and eating his $11m is fantasy. Lots of OF versatility too. Rolling with the defensive oriented OF in away games at Kaufmann, Comerica, etc. while introducing a little more pop with Melky or Avi at the Cell. If the Sox get a lead throw in the defensive replacement. Hamilton and Trayce can both PR like nobodies business, which is a colossally underrated tool to have for those crucial 1 run games in this deadball era. The downside is the best power bat of the 5 is likely Eaton. The whole group may not hit more than 30 HR a year which puts massive pressure on Abreu and the IF (yikes!) to make up the power. But for a team in the Sox position sacrifices must be made, we aren't getting a group of 3 OF that play good defense, get on base a lot, can run and hit >50 HR as a group.
  21. And the Sox were almost buyers at the deadline anyway. In spite of all of that. Try it again, retool where needed (DH, C, 3B), maybe add a dynamic player with some issues and see what happens. With Sale-Q-Rodon anchoring the rotation it wont take much to make the Sox contenders in the central.
