Sox looking at building in South Loop
They came up short of 3 million both years 2,934,154 in 1991 2,957,414 in 2006 White Sox, Royals, A’s, Rays, Reds, Nationals/Expos and Pirates are the only MLB franchises that have failed to draw 3 million fans for a season and yes the Marlins drew over 3 million their first year in 1993.

Those low boxes were bad at Comiskey as the field was pitched, players in the dugout could only see the outfielders from their waist to the head. Wasn’t rectified until 1982.

Walt, that’s the way I felt back in those days but I liked the Bears too, I never liked the Cubs but because we lived up by Loyola as a kid I went Wrigley quite often from 1957 to 1960 but always rooted for the visiting team, It wasn’t until 1960 that I went to Sox game without an adult.

I made to one Cardinal game, their last year in Chicago was 1959 and they played in Soldier Field that year. My cousin and I went to a beautiful Suday afternoon game in October and they lost to Jimmy Brown and the Cleveland Browns like 34-7, pretty typical. I had a golf buddy here in Florida who died a few years ago, he was a few years older but lived near Midway and he and his buddies would go to Sunday Cardinal games at Comiskey, head downtown for something to eat and then head out to Chicago Stadium for Blackhawk games. I did that with buddies maybe twice with Bear and Blackhawk games. One other Cardinal tidbit, their last 2 or 3 years in Chicago they played 2 home games a year at Metropolitan Stadium up in the Twin Cities.

I’ve never heard that before, I always thought that da Mayor was behind it all the way, why wouldn’t he want it as at the time it would have been a plus for the city. Long time ago but I always thought that it was the Bears who wanted no part of it, they were always associated with the Cubs and if it was a baseball park for the Cubs the Bears probably would have gone along with the plans.

The site was talked about back in the 60s, Arthur Allyn along with Mayor Daley wanted the Sox, Blackhawks and Bears to have stadiums on the site. The Bears balked and had been playing at Wrigley for decades and must of thought they would be playing in the Friendly Confines forever. Wrigley was a great place for Bear games as you were right on top of the action, after the Baseball season was over, Papa Bear Halas would squeeze in a pretty large grandstand in right field which increased capacity to over 45,000 depending on how much standing room tickets were sold. The Bears always started the season with 3 weeks on the road as it took time to erect the temporary seats but I loved watching the Bears at the Friendly Confines.

September 4 Game Thread - going for lucky 13
I live in Florida and watch Sox games, when the Rays are playing at the same time I switch back and forth.

The only way to keep your sanity is to accept the fact that the Sox won’t make the playoffs along with 18 other teams, I’ve already stated that to a couple of Red Sox fans in my Golf group who were giving me the business.

It would be classic and as iconic as the Lee Elia rant of 1983.

I was pretty good friends with Jimmy back in the 80s as we played quite a bit of tennis together at the Wheaton Sport Center, we talked a lot of White Sox baseball, he hated TLR and everytime they lost a game he would call me up and tell how me how LaRussa screwed up the game. It all came to a head when LaRussa, Leyland and one of the other coaches confronted Jimmy at the the radio studio where Jimmy had the post game show, how brave was that, 3 against 1.

Like I said he would need a complete change of stripes and convince people that the Sox were going to turn this around damn fast and NO I don’t expect this to come close to happening.

JR is worse, besides that the Maple Leaf franchise is a Cash Cow, they have sold out every game since the end of WW2.

The only way a free premier agent signs with the Sox is if JR changes his stripes and brings in the best GM and front office people he can find and also hires a well respected Manager.

Just think what Harry Caray and Jimmy Piersall would be saying about this team and season.

Most of us weren’t around at the beginning but the White Sox did go 88 years without a World Series Championship, me personally, I went 53 years until we won it all in 2005 as I became Sox fan in 1952, we did make to the WS IN 1959 but lost to the Dodgers. I remember well the Maple Leaf teams of the 1960s who won 4 Stanley Cups, they beat my Blackhawks quite often but it was a great rivalry, hated Eddie Shack and a few other Leafs.

You would think the law of averages would have one of these moves by Getz pan out with a guy that can actually play the game. I honestly think that these guys won’t win another game this year, 31-131 has a nice ring to it and would be 30 games worse that the 2023 White Sox juggernaut.

Because the Dodgers have the best organization in MLB, they know how to evaluate talent with excellent scouts, know how to instruct and develop players in the minors without rushing them to the big club and then to cut bait if the need arises. The Rays are pretty good at this also but of course don’t have the money that LA has.

That team had Major League players like Aparicio, Melton, May, Herrmann, Knoop, Berry, Horlen, John and Wood just to name some. The pitching was pretty bad with Horlen and John who had off years. Gary Peters was traded away and they were counting on Bart Johnson but he wasn’t ready.- 9/2 GT - Sox vs. Orioles 2:05 CT
He never had a chance at the runner going to second, should have taken the sure out at first. You can be bad but don’t be dumb.- 9/2 GT - Sox vs. Orioles 2:05 CT
Probably doesn’t make much of a difference but why aren’t Vaughn and Benintendi in the lineup.- 9/1 GT - Mets at Sox (1:10pm CT)
Please wake me up, this is the worst nightmare ever. - Comparing 1970 to today...
