you need to drop some of that Kool-Aid in the dugout
  11. don't believe Farmer has a son. Just a daughter, according to the Sox media guide
  12. generally agree it'd say April and May tied for generally disturbing other than that, same view here
  13. I talked to Royce Ring at a minor league game after he was dealt to the Mets and he couldn't say enough good things about Backman. Said he was easy to play for as long as you played hard. Said the players respected him and played hard for him. Said the guy went to bat for his players hard on the field. I know there is a big difference between managing in the Southern League and the American League. But think about it ... Wally Backman is not some career minor leaguer who would come to the big leagues trying to show he's a tough guy. The guy played in the major leagues for 14 seasons. He was still in the bigs 10 years ago so he's not out of touch. He played in New York City for a long time, so he's been exposed to lots of media stuff. I'm not saying he's the guy. But he deserves a look.

I'm there till the bitter -- and painful -- end. At least the suspense is over. I, for one, hope that Rowand, Miles and a few others get a chance to play tonight that's part of the fun of september when you are DOA -- seeing some fresher faces.
  16. finish third or fourth better draft pick
  17. does anybody know what happened to Borchard? wasn't called up. Is he scheduled for winter ball? Is he having problems with his wrist? Are people trying to talk him into returning to football? Does he still believe he has a future with this team? Same thing with Rauch, who never got to Chicago all season. A couple of years ago Borchard and Rauch were considered two of the top 25 prospects in the game. Now we hear nothing about them. What gives? Anybody?
  18. jose and PK usualy have the most to say to the print guys. i'd go with PK. "mutiny" would more likely be part of his vocabulary -- although I would think Konerko could play for anybody.
  19. more likely this team will LOSE 10 in a row
  20. i'd rather see the sox look another direction at SS valentine is at an age where he will continue to decline, not improve. his defense was solid this year, but there is always a chance he could revert to the play of the last few years, He's an automatic out hitting right handed. and although his power is nice, we have enough power. We need guys with better on-base percentages who can turn the lineup over. That's not Jose. Time for a change.
  21. Farmer loves Garland. Thinks he is eventually going to be a stud. I heard that anecdote on the radio. Basically Farmer and Cooper wanted Garland to trust his fastball more and establish it inside. They were very unhappy that he got beat on the changeup by Michael Ryan. I'd love to see Farmer be given authority of some kind. He has great insights and wants to win.
  22. I'm having a difficult time believing the Sox would fork over the money for a high-profile manager like Leyland. The track record under JR has been to usually go cheap -- Manuel, Bevington, Lamont, Torborg. Fregosi was a bit more high-profile, but even he wasn't that expensive. Maybe he'll change his mind if he sees Baker take the Cubs into the World Series. But the dude don't open the wallet for managers or long-term contracts for pitchers.
  23. My gut feeling is that after watching the last three games -- never mind the last three seasons -- that JR won't give a crap if the players are offended by a manager who gets in their face. In fact, he might enjoy it. The Number One priority should be getting rid of Frank. He's the guy who has been around the longest and should have provided the leadership. But he's not a leader. Never has been. Never will be. And his performance this month has been dreadful. Turn the team over to some of the younger guys. And without Frank, you've got the flexibility of using a number of guys at DH, finding a live left-handed bat and breaking up the log-jam of station to station runners in the middle of the lineup. Number Two should be solidifying the pitching staff. They can still contend next season with this staff. Hell, they stayed in the race this year without any offense for 10 weeks. I can't see JR spending the money on Colon, when he wouldn't do it on McDowell, Fernandez, Alvarez and others who got big money elsewhere and developed arm trouble. But with Loaiza, Buehrle and Garland, you at least have a bit of a foundation. Number three is a couple of guys who can handle the bat and run -- at shortstop and the outfield. Guys who control the strike zone, can take a walk, move runners up and run the bases intelligently. There are other things that can be done. But that's a start.
  24. Wally has one key qualification that Bobby V., leyland and others don't have he won't cost much. JR will go for that.
  25. And one other question: What happened to Borchard? is he in instructional or getting ready for Winter Ball?
