  1. Tell the truth: Who would have howled if he had been out by 15 feet -- as he should have been? Rather be lucky than good?
  2. Says he's not uncomfortable with being considered a star. Says talking about personal achievements are not something he likes to talk about in clubhouse in front of teammates. That is what makes him uncomfortable, talking about himself in the clubhouse. Says because he plays first base, people value his offensive numbers but other guys steal bases and play tougher defensive positions, so they are sometimes overlooked and just as valuable.
  3. Konerko says he tries not to say too much to Adam Dunn, just broad-stroke stuff, not fine points of hitting. Says that when you finally come out of it, you learn stuff that sets you up for the next few years. Says that happened to him in 2003 and 2008. Made him a better hitter. Says when you play 15 years, a three-month dip isn't that much when you put it in that perspective.
  4. Konerko says if you want positives or negatives about the way the White Sox have played this season you can find either one. Says team feels as if it hasn't come close to playing its best baseball. Other teams have let the Sox hang around. The negative view says they haven't played like or looked like a division champ and we're now 80 games into the season. "It's there for us, but to look at it on the field, we have to get better at it," Konerko said.
  5. Konerko says playing for Ozzie as a player, players are the most emotional and that they ride a roller coaster because they are the ones out there failing and then doing well. When Ozzie is your manager, he can ride that roller coaster, too. Says for the most part, it's not that big of a deal (when Ozzie goes off the way he did last night). When he gets mad and has a blowup, the players have to cut that loose at some point. Says you have to be a tougher player and have thicker skin to play for him (as opposed to Jerry Manuel, I reckon).
  6. Konerko says he disagrees with Ozzie about the loss to Colorado Tuesday night being the toughest loss of season. He said he knows what Ozzie means about the opportunities the Sox wasted, but that the Sox didn't have it, perhaps because of the day off. Said fundamentally the Sox didn't have it.
  7. Paul Konerko coming up in about 25 minutes (1:45 CDT) on the Scott Van Pelt Show on ESPN radio. Buster Olney was on a few minutes ago and said everybody talks about the heat on Ozzie, folks should be talking about the job that Kenny Williams has done. Amen, Buster.
  8. Still waiting to see who gets the first reaction from King Alex? Or Kenny Stanford? Or The Chairman? Always wondering how loud the howling is on the talk shows in Chicago this morning?
  9. AJ pushing his luck with Eddings. The magic of October 2005 is gone -- and that wasn't Josh Paul behind the plate.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 02:47 AM) Anyone see Mauer and a Twins pitcher getting into it a few days ago? over what?
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 02:45 AM) Check the replay, he didn't get to it just fine. He took a very leisurely route to the ball. Amen. He takes a very leisurely path through the zone with the bat, too. There's a reason the Jays let him go for nothing -- even with the onerous contract.
  12. Farmer ripped him on the radio for not even pretending he was going to run on the popup. Odds are it's not the first time folks around the team have wondered if Number 51 is All In.
  13. He's dogged it every way except heading to the bank. Maybe The Chairman finally passed along the word that he's seen enough junk.
  14. checking tweets from coors field press box. They're not saying if he was sick or benched.
  15. If Ozzie benched him, I hope he says so. Not bench him and then save him in the press conference and say he had a tummy ache.
  16. Wow. Rios benched by Ozzie. Hooray!!!!!!
  17. Peyton Manning in the house.
  18. lazy route on that ball by Rios after he didn't run out that popup. Who's more offensive: Dunn, Rios or Kenny Williams for fetching them?
  19. Farmio busting Rios on the radio. good for Farmio. DJ defending him for not running out popup that was likely foul.
  20. Kuhn getting the night off -- or promoted????
  21. Managers are overrated. General managers hand out stupid contracts, overpay in trades and do terrible jobs handling the draft and player development. Time for Kenny Stanford to walk the plank.
  22. What about not going from first to third on a single all season? Definitely fat -- and not taking pride in his craft. I think he's losing it -- and the Sox are stuck with an enormous contract through 2014, which will feel like 3014 by September.
  23. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 11:30 PM) LOL what does send Dunn on his way mean? Big contract in its first year. You have to live with him. I'm just dreaming -- and counting the days until Oct. 1, 2014 when Dunn can return to Texas and count all of Jerry Reinsdorf's money. nothing can be done with him now -- other than to tell him to get himself in shape and send him to an eye doctor. I didn't like the Dunn move from the moment the rumors began last summer. One-trick pony whose whiffs soared last season. But even I didn't think he could be this horrendous. We'd be better off letting Buehrle or Peavy DH. The Dunn contract is well on its way to becoming one of the Top 10 worst free-agent signings of the last decade. Off the top of my head, I'm guessing the other contenders would be Mike Hampton, Barry Zito, Kevin Brown ... not sure about position players.
  24. Two more hits for Kuhn. bring him and Viciedo up and send Pierre and Dunn on their way.
