  1. at charlotte -- may 21
  2. Don't forget that Trayce Thompson had the golden sombrero at Kannapolis. four Ks in four at bats. Quite an outfield that Buddy Bell is cooking up.
  3. looks like he needed to start the year at LSU. Or he's been watching Adam Dunn Instructional videos.
  4. Sale needs go to Charlotte to regroup. and take beckham along
  5. guess Lilli over Milledge was the right call
  6. There has been no story written about this, thus no link. But the info is solid. He isn't high enough on the food chain for Chicago media to be tracking him yet. But he was a very solid pitcher last season in college. Big frame. Good movement. Repeats his delivery well. Hopefully, his recovery is complete.
  7. More bad injury news for the Sox farm system. The word Friday at the University of Louisville basketball game was that Thomas Royse, the Sox third-round pick in the 2010 draft, will miss the 2011 season. Royse, the best pitcher in the Big East last season at Louisville, had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow several weeks ago. Pretty sure he was shut down last summer when he pitched at Great Falls. Mitchell, Phegley, Royse ... the hits just keep on coming.
  8. more importantly, it would drain the Twinkies bullpen.
  9. looking at that list is just another reminder why Kenny Williams needs to go bye-bye. all the confetti from 2005 has been swept up. Time for new leadership that understands the value of player development. He's gutted our system with impulsive trades and one of his buddies is about to go to trial for skimming bonus money. What more does The Chairman need to see?
  10. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 10, 2010 -> 02:52 AM) I wouldn't have watched a game. Please delete this thread to save people heart attacks. He was supposedly on the MLB network yesterday saying the Sox were pursuing other left-handed bats like Dunn and Fielder.
  11. I think Konerko will make the decision for them that he wants to play somewhere else. My guess is he is tired of the Ozzie/Kenny drama, sees that the Sox are not going to beat the Twins the next couple of years and jumps to a team with more stability and a better chance of winning.
  12. Flowers has been given a whopping six at bats (and whiffed three times) since he was promoted a month ago. That tells me everything I need to know about what Ozzie thinks of him. If we don't bring AJ back, we'd better have a solid Plan B.
  13. For the record, I'm in favor of bringing him back. Two years with an option would be great, but I doubt PK goes along with that. This is his last chance to make decent money and he's coming off a career year. But going three years would likely be something the sox would be lamenting in 2012 and 2013.
  14. Josh Paul was another bust who was taken fairly high -- although he helped us win the ALCS with his performance behind the plate in Game Two.
  15. I don't think it's all that complicated. This is the last week of the regular season. They just returned from a road trip. He was likely getting multiple interview requests from all the local TV stations and radio stations to talk about his future. Rather than talk about it three or four or five times, he probably asked if he could do one session about free agency and be done with it. Why he chose Thursday, who knows? The only thing these guys ever say is they want to come back but they owe it to their families to test the market. But if he wants to put some pressure on the Sox to resign him, now is the time to do it. I wonder if the Diamondbacks would have any interest. He lives in Scottsdale during the off-season and I believe he grew up in the Phoenix area. That would seem enticing.
  16. I agree about the tailspin. Either Kenny or Ozzie needs to take a hit for this season. and when you're comparing the curveballs and ERAs of Floyd and Gio, don't forget to compare their salaries. Williams is such a genius that he traded this kid twice. Once wasn't enough.
  17. Morel. Morel. Morel. Better fielder by miles. Better control of the strike zone. Will hit for better average. Looks like a better baserunner. Until Viciedo learns to lay off bad pitches, he's got no shot to be a big league hitter. and his best position is DH. Another guy Kenny Williams overpaid to acquire.
  18. Kenny Williams and our farm system are more troublesome to me than Ozzie. Look at what we have at Charlotte and Birmingham -- and it don't look pretty. And williams needs to explain to The Chairman again why he is paying Manny $4 million and why he traded Hudson and Gonzalez.
  19. There is nothing wrong with having a fourth or fifth starter who pitches for less than a million a year.
  20. duly noted. Thanks for the replies. Tough to process that the season is over. Just a vent after the sight of the final three innings last night.
  21. I can't believe it's an enjoyable working environment for either guy. It's aggravating to watch the Twins handle the Sox year after year with a much smaller payroll. Why? Better drafting. Better player-development. Better decision-making. I realize they haven't won the World Series since 1991. But they're usually in the hunt -- and have taken major hits like losing Santana, Hunter, Ortiz, A.J. and the others.
  22. I vote for a better relationship between the GM and manager -- regardless of who fills either office. Don't see how the franchise can move forward with the continuous hissing contests that have existed this year. Don't think they have the same vision for what kind of team they prefer. And as for the young pitchers, having a starter (or two) making the minimum is a very valuable commodity. And the Sox have dealt away three of those guys. With the season officially ending last night, it's time to vent.
  23. As the Sox move into the off season and a possible decision looms between keeping Ozzie or keeping Kenny, I won't dwell on the $4 million wasted on Manny Ramirez, who has contributed more bogus haircuts than RBIs or extra-base hits. Instead, I'll note that Daniel Hudson, Gio Gonzalez and Clayton Richard, three pitchers making under a half-million each, three guys at least four seasons from free agency, three guys drafted by and developed by the White Sox are a combined 32-17. All three have earned run averages below 3.50. All three have allowed fewer hits than innings pitched. All three are five games over. 500. Not keeping any of the three was a colossal blunder by the GM and the collective decisions will contribute to financial difficulties on the roster in the next few years. There. Now I feel better.
  24. mostly agree with your assessments. Threets, however, won't pitch next year. Not after Tommy John. Be a miracle if Kenny can cut his losses and dump Teahen on somebody. I agree Quentin is the guy to trade. His constant injuries and need for days off, make him too unreliable. But it won't be easy to find somebody who can drive in runs like him. Peavy will be really hard to project -- so Garcia might have to be kept at a reasonable rate. Sale will eventually be a starter. Can't see them using him as a closer. My guess is the job will go to Santos or Thornton. I wonder what their plans are for Flowers. Kenny would have to admit he was wrong when he took him as the major piece in the Vaz trade, but a decision will have to be made on him. Can't put him in AAA another year. sorry to ramble. feels like the season ended today.
  25. What about Justin Greene? has struggled at Birmingham but the sox promoted him over Short? and Ciolli? Does he have any chance? Any possibility Gartrell could be a platoon outfielder?
