  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 06:40 AM) I don't consider the score in my local media rotation. It still surprises me when people listen to that station Eh, a lot of driving for my job, fm radio/most of today's music being terrible, and no other sports ones (loved "The Game" which used to be 87.7 fm but that went off the air. Short-lived.)
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 08:26 PM) How are the Cardinals so good at finding gems after the 10th round? Good scouting and player development.
  3. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) I'm not rooting for the Cubs, not really rooting for any team this playoffs, but I don't get some of the active rooting for the team that is playing the Cubs or actively rooting against them. I have some family(some of them are getting up there in age) and friends who are Cub fans and I know this would be awesome for them to see the Cubs win it. Sure there will be a lot of annoying fans if they win it, but I know it would be really nice to see longtime fans be happy. Also, f*** that bar. Here is another pleasant story about them. McNally's Cuts Band Off Due to 'Too Many Black People,' Musician Says Agree with all of this. I just treat it like its another MLB game that doesn't feature the Sox.
  4. QUOTE (Sockin @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 10:19 AM) Good news, I'll take the 22nd draft pick. That's not how it works...
  5. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 09:56 AM) Would anyone give a s*** if a Mets-affiliated bar ran promotions against the Yankees? Or is just because the Cubs are so damn "loveable"? It absolutely would come up. Anything Yankees always comes up in the sporting world news.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 08:44 AM) It wouldn't have made sense for the Sox to sign this guy and take the penalties unless he was a sure thing. Considering his signing bonus, he is not. If they were over and not going to be able to get guys the next 2 years already, it made a ton of sense, but to blow 2 more signing periods over 1 guy , unless he is the next Andruw Jones, doesn't make much sense. Besides, they probably already have a couple of commitments for the next signing period. Hopefully, they go radically over one of these years. That is one stupid loophole. Agree. It is a dumb loophole and it did only make sense for teams who had already gone over. They better go out this year with the big dogs out but it would be so White Sox not to. It would be cool to hear some names that they may have pre-agreements with.
  7. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 09:15 AM) The first step if the Sox are going to try and contend is to bite the bullet and eat some/all of LaRoche's contract in a trade for anything. If LaRoche is on the team, they are not planning on contending. The next thing I'd do is try and trade Melky. He has some value, probably not a lot, and they should be able to deal him. Ideally, I'd try to make a deal with Miami with Melky heading that way and Martin Prado heading this way. Their salaries kind of match up and it would be more of the other players involved that make the deal. Maybe Melky and Tyler Danish for Prado and low level prospect. Next, I'd deal Quintana to the Dodgers and try to get Puig and Barnes. If that fails, I'd look to Colorado and try to acquire Gonzalez and Rosario. I wouldn't include Quintana in that deal as the Rockies are looking to unload both of them and they shouldn't cost as much in trade value. Maybe Erik Johnson, Tyler Flowers, and Micah Johnson gets it done. I think they can get Rosario back to a decent enough defensive catcher to play him there. Lastly, I take Pedro Alvarez off the Pirates hands. Maybe giving them LaRoche and eating a big portion of his contract gets it done. That gives the Sox a lineup of(I'm moving Avisail to LF in either trade scenario): LF- Garcia/Thompson CF-Eaton RF- Puig/Cargo 3B-Prado SS-Alexei 2B-Sanchez 1B-Abreu C-Rosario/Barnes DH-Alvarez SP: Sale, Rodon, Quintana/Johnson, Danks, Fulmer/veteran FA signing. Despite them wanting to unload them, I could see Erik Johnson going straight up for Rosario if they want to just bring back depth for him but they have a good young 2B already in DJ LeMahieu and I highly doubt they would want Tyler Flowers.
  8. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 09:40 AM) If we're all as smart of fans as we think we are, we should be cheering for the Cubs to win it all. Yes, I said it. We should still hate them at the same time. Confused? Don't be. This White Sox Organization has been sitting back and lazily throwing the same crap at the wall since we won in 2005. We were hungry after the town got Cubs fever in the 90s and early 2000s. That hunger brought us a World Series. The lack of hunger has brought up Gordon Beckham. Twice. Adam Dunn. Twice. Sorry, correction - Adam Dunn and Adam LaRoache aka Adam Dunn 2.0. We are currently wasting the primes of 3 amazing baseball players at the top 5 at their respective positions in the world. Chris Sale, Jose Abreu, and David Robertson are amazing talents and would be quite possibly top 3 at their positions in the right city/situation if they aren't already. What has this White Sox Organization given you as a fan the last 5 years that makes you happy? Not much. Although I am excited about Carlos Rodon! As White Sox fans we pride ourselves in showing up when the team deserves our hard earned money. Making them earn it is our reputation. They simply haven't of late. It's a pleasure to watch some of the starting pitchers throw, we can't take that away from them, but outside of that and Jose... The future doesn't have to be dark. We have some top talent. We have some other pieces. We need to make some radical changes, yes. We need the hunger back. The Chicago Cubs winning the World Series might do it. The Chicago Sports media would be more Cubs heavy than ever before, which is fine. I don't want to hear any more from the White Sox until changes are made. REAL changes. Fairweather White Sox fans (and yes, we have them too) would head to the blue side. Fans of baseball that enjoy winning in the city might head north a lot more. Young fans will be choosing blue over white and black. The White Sox are losing more than just baseball games, they are losing a revenue battle in a highly competitive industry of business. A Chicago Cubs title will be a miserable thing to tolerate as a White Sox fan. It won't be fun. It won't make your life better...right now. However, if it brings upon radical and necessary changes to the Chicago White Sox organization, bring it on. I can take it. I've taken 10 seasons of crap since our White Sox won the series. I can deal with Cubs fans gloating about a World Series, because I know what it feels like. Just smile and nod and tell them "Welcome to the club." I agree 100% if the Sox end up making moves to better the organization. I hate this Band-aid lineup they keep putting out there every year. It is going to suck when/if Cubs end up winning but at the end of the game f*** it. It's just a game.
  9. Only caught a little of the game, but for those who watched any of it, did anyone else enjoy AJ broadcasting or was it just me?
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 08:10 AM) Cubs fans, and most of the local media as well have NO idea there are actually other talented young teams in the playoffs with bright futures. No idea whatsoever. That's actually not true at all as they were going on this morning on The Score about the Astros and Mets.
  11. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) I'll say this, if the Sox refuse on dealing Q or Sale and they want to contend, then they need at least 3 of these players in trades or FA. Cespedes CarGo Heyward Longoria Zobrist Getting Longoria might mean you deal Q or Fullmer. I'd personally go with Longoria, Cespedes and CarGo. I'd then sign Wieters on a one year deal. Eaton CarGo Abreu Longoria Cespedes Ramirez Wieters Thompson Johnson Find a way to dump LaRoche (possibly to the Pirates for nobody) and Danks (possibly to the Dodgers for nothing) I'm for this if he is willing to take a one-year deal to rebuild value as other Boras clients before him did and he doesn't receive a QO. He won't be coming back from injury this off-season and can get ready and condition for the season as he normally would. Brings some potential if he stays healthy and if the team is bad, they have a trade chip. Cespedes I can definitely see if they decide they want to add a threat behind Abreu (which we need). Although, with LaRoche in the DH spot, probably means Avi is moved (back-end starter, bullpen piece, or other struggling youngster?)
  12. Looking back at a lot of posts on here, a lot of people (including myself) pencil in Fulmer to replace Danks mid-season. Thinking about it, it's no guarantee we are able to deal Danks or just stick him in the pen and it is probably more likely that Fulmer replaces Johnson. Also, I don't think this team needs to target just lefty hitting. Without doing research, it seems like left-handed bats have more extreme split stats than right-handed hitters do. Look at the Jays lineup. Now, I'm not saying we can easily put together a lineup like the Jays, but saying "we need a big lefty bat in the lineup" (while not wrong) is short-sighted. Get the best available bat who doesn't have extreme splits and is available to you.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 07:47 AM) Bradley Jr is still way too unproven to take that kind of risk. Yeah they'd at least have to get 3 more guys in that deal if they are taking him as well I believe.
  14. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) Meh How many times has there been young talented teams that looked like a shoo in to win a WS and never have done it. Everyone here was positive the last team Maddon managed was going to win one and yet after their 08 WS trip, they never got close again. When the Sox won in 05, nobody and I mean nobody saw that coming before the season started. Baseball is really weird that way. Maddon also has more resources with the Cubs than the Rays however. If they don't win this year (even if they do I think), they will go out and get someone. Price made comments last year about how cool it would be to win with the Cubs. That was before Maddon signed with the Cubs. Personally, I think Cubs starting 3 next season will be Price, Arrieta, Lester.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 07:42 PM) Astros had a chance to blow this one open in the first and only got 2. More than the Sox would have gotten in that situation. Would have unsurprisingly put up a goose egg.
  16. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 06:35 PM) I think he could definitely help in the pen. Like to see him start for another year though. I think ultimately he ends up in the pen and I'd rather sell him as a starter.
  17. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) Desmond at 3B would be such a disaster... Agree. I would call Minnesota and ask what it would take to get Plouffe.
  18. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) I'm not sold on Anderson or Fulmer honestly. They may be studs in the minors, but who knows what their transition to the big leagues will be like. Rodon is a stud though and I'm glad that he fell to the Sox. I'm just hoping that they can draft/develop a stud position player for once. Not someone like Sanchez or Saladino. A legit star with all the tools. This organization desperately needs Anderson to work out at short.
  19. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 12:17 PM) Abreu is not arbitration eligible. He opts out, he is a free agent. He Dosent even get a qualifying offer No he wouldn't be a free agent. He has the option to go through arbitration. Otherwise he would no doubt opt out for free agency to get more money out there. Especially being what 29? He'd get a 6-8 year mega deal easily.
  20. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 11:53 AM) I like this idea alot. Not sure if there's a match but I'd happily give Villanueva 3B next year to see what he could do. I'm sure the cubs would want pitching, just not sure what the Sox could give that the Sox don't want to give up. I don't think it would take a lot. Of course you never know, he may not be blocked if they end up moving Bryant to the OF permanently and trading Castro or Baez (of course I guess that would open up Soler to be dealt but I think Villanueva is odd-man out as you never hear anything about him).
  21. Thinking about it, I can totally see the Sox getting Cespedes. I do not think he gets the 6 year deal he wants however. I'm thinking he gets 4 with an option.
  22. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 10:46 AM) Is there any good 3B prospects that are being blocked by someone else? I'd prefer to trade for a younger player and not sign an aging one. The only guy that comes to mind (while not a huge year but someone who could probably be had for cheap) is Christian Villanueva of the Cubs. Turned 24 in June, 20 homers, about a 16% K rate, .257 avg, .314 obp, .752 ops. May not be perfect but better than what's in-house now.
  23. QUOTE (Lillian @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 10:57 AM) In 996 career plate appearances, batting second in the lineup, Heyward is a .251 hitter. He hit in that spot just 74 at bats, last season, but the results were awful. He only hit .208 there, with an OBP of .230. He has had much better success batting 3rd through 5th, but still very little power. It seems as though if he were on the Sox, he would be much better suited in the heart of the order. Nevertheless, he is not a big enough run producer to fix our anemic lineup. I'm convinced the Sox need a really potent bat at cleanup, which Heyward does not possess. Yeah I just don't know where that bat is going to come from. Too bad we couldn't have worked out a deal for Donaldson when the Sox and A's had those early discussions for Samardzija last November around.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 10:37 AM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 30m30 minutes ago Phoenix, AZ Courtney Hawkins will not be taking part in the AFL per White Sox. Bothered by plantar fasciitis in left foot. Trey Michalczewski now in Bad news on Hawkins. At least Trey gets more work in.
  25. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 10:53 AM) Oh I know. I'm just reiterating it. I have a bad feeling that the Sox will f*** up this pick somehow. Probably. But here's to hoping they don't
