James Shields
Is this guy ever going to sign? Might as well wait for Spring Training and injuries to occur at this point.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 7, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) Reasons to not go for him: Save that money for Samardzija Or if you resign Samardzija before next offseason, use itto make a competitive offer for someone like Cueto Or see if one of Montas Danish can get to the show in time. Don't really see them giving Shark an extension along with throwing money around to someone else. I think they should sign Beachy now, and then either extend Shark or go for someone else next off season. Maybe get involved with one of the last guys to sign when his price is down.

Buddy Bell on mlb now
If Ventura fails this year, hire Gardenhire.

Sox Acquire Yency Almonte (as PTBNL in Gordon Beckham Trade)
QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Feb 5, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) How many times do you think a team has completed a trade after reacquiring the player they traded away in the first place? I'm not sure, but I know that John MacDonald once got traded for himself.

QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Feb 5, 2015 -> 11:31 AM) I think Shields will be a good get for whoever gets him at this point. I think next year's free agent pitchers (Price, Zimmerman, Samardjiza) will command major coin and Shields may look like a bargain. Also take into account that none of the real heavy players (Red Sox, Yanks, Dodgers, Angels) landed any big arms this offseason. I don't see that being the case next offseason. I expect all those teams to be heavily involved in those guys I mentioned. Like I said when the Sox got Samardjiza, I think it's a one year deal. If he has a good year (and we all hope he should for this year's team), I see one of those teams paying him a huge sum of cash that the Sox won't be able to match. Between Cueto, Porcello, Greinke (most likely), Zimmermann, Fister, Price, Latos and Samardzija I feel there are too many arms available and not enough teams willing to throw huge bucks around now. i feel like Samardzija (knowing who else is out there next winter) may be wise to take a good extension from us now.

QUOTE (Stev-o @ Feb 5, 2015 -> 10:33 AM) There is WAY too much Cubs love on this site. Book this...they will NOT win 75 games this season. Too many question marks. I treat the Cubs like any other team: if they have prospects/players I like, why can't I like them? Because they're with the Cubs? To me, liking certain players on the cubs is like saying I like certain players on say the Rays or some random team. I don't hate everything they do just because they're the cubs. They only factor into 6 games of our season (actually more if you factor in playing other AL central reams this year). I want them to lose 6 games to us and win every other game against the AL central. Cubs win 60 games? Great. Who cares. Cubs wins 90 games? Again. Great. Who cares.

QUOTE (SoCalS. @ Feb 4, 2015 -> 10:28 PM) Via Kaplan, the Cubs in on Shields... Interesting. Makes sense kind of. They haven't given up any draft picks yet and and he will probably be more successful longer in the NL.

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Feb 4, 2015 -> 04:44 PM) FWIW, there was an article a few days ago about Greinke and the possibility/probability that he excersises his opt out clause after this season. He can opt out of his contract after this year and cash in for some serious money. The Dodgers know this and could look to sign Shields as a replacement now anticipating losing Greinke later. I think they will agree to re-negotiate Grenike's deal for more money.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 4, 2015 -> 01:44 PM) Comcast SportsNet @CSNChicago 5h5 hours ago James Shields to the #WhiteSox? Ain’t happening, explains @CSNHayesrl="http://bit.ly/1F3Yccw"]http://bit.ly/1F3Yccw[/url] Can't really believe everything a Gm says. I still consider us a dark horse candidate. Maybe the smaller moves are Beachy and possibly guys like Joe Thatcher on minor league deals just to have stashed in the minors

Jeff Samardzija contract extension?
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Feb 1, 2015 -> 04:15 PM) Samardzija has remained consistent with his words in that he wants to hit FA. This is his one chance to fully cash in on that opportunity and why I did not like the idea of trading for him in the first place. That said, I still look forward to watching him pitch for the sox this upcoming season. Worst case scenario, they can get a compensation pick for him if he walks away. And we didn't give up a whole lot other than Semien in my eyes. You have to give value to get value.

Jeff Samardzija contract extension?
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 1, 2015 -> 04:46 PM) OK I get Condor is Sale and Shark is Samardzija and Quetzecoatl is Quintana is that Pterodactyl represents the Monster Rodan (Rodon) but the last 2 have me stumped. I'm going to guess the Great Dane represents Danish and Praying Mantis is Montas.

Jeff Samardzija contract extension?
I feel I'd rather sign him to an extension rather than giving out more money to the other 6-7 guys available next off-season along with giving away our potential first round draft pick. Sign guys now while it is supposedly a weaker draft class and draft great in 2016.

BR ranks the top 10 front line rotations in MLB
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Feb 1, 2015 -> 11:27 AM) I don't think the Sox top 3 was assembled 'quietly' at all. Sale: not really since he was drafted first round. Samardzija: not really Quintana: pretty quiet in the sense two other teams released him and he turned into a gem with us If you're talking about how we acquired them that is.

Non-Roster Invites
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 01:04 PM) Not going to lie. It's pretty cool seeing JD Martin get signed to a Minor League deal. I come from a small desert town in southern California and JD pitched here his whole life until he was drafted by the Indians. In high school he was throwing 97 and had an extremely bright future ahead of him. Sadly he had two TJ surgeries and lost most of his velocity. In two seasons ('09-'10) he started 24 games for a bad Nationals team and went 6-9 4.32. He's kind of a Scott Carroll kind of guy. Won't blow you away with his stuff but could be decently effective as a LR. It's like a dream come true to see him even get a chance with the Sox. My small hometown would go nuts. Hopefully the Sox sign a similar guy who is a free agent as rotation depth soon

Bullpen Depth/MI Depth
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) I think Bonifacio and Viciedo may split the backup outfielder role with Bonifacio taking Eaton's off-days in center and Viciedo filling in for Melky and Avi. This is what I thought too. Especially when Hahn said they want another infielder (though i still think Bonifacio platoons at third but plugs in the outfield when Gillaspie or backup are in).

The Backup Catcher
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 09:17 AM) Isn't Nieto a switch hitter? Yes meaning he is able to hit from left side
-
The Backup Catcher
QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 07:59 AM) if you are thinking that Nieto will be up in the majors, i don't see that happening. he really needs a full season of at bats and time behind the plate. my thinking is that the sox see potential and the sox want to fully develop Nieto. beyond him, does the sox really have another potential full time major league catcher in the minors?? I'm aware. I was answering the question of left handed hitters.

Bullpen Depth/MI Depth
I don't think they will add anyone. Saladino could win the backup job.

Blue Jays/Team President Question.......
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) Roch Kubatko @masnRoch · 2h 2 hours ago Told latest report has Jays ending negotiations for Duquette, an Os official said "That's what, the 4th time they've said that?" If things do stall, do you guys think that KW becomes an option again? The O's were asking for Jeff Hoffman, Max Pentecost, and Mitch Nay for Duquette. I don't think KW would require that compensation but what about something like Aaron Sanchez and D.J Davis? Yeah I'd let KW go for a prospect /young player or two

Sox sign Geo Soto
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) I think it will be Saladino over Garcia. Have to agree. Especially with Hahn saying that they are looking for a right handed hitting infielder.

Blue Jays/Team President Question.......
He should deal for Tank and then go to Toronto like next week haha that would really stick it to them
