That's 100% what happened or why there was even thought they would get both. We were all saying they would have to pay about $650 mill to land both which looks pretty accurate. They thought they were going to get both on below value deals. Very sad honestly.

Hopefully done adding. Don't really want Keuchel nor Kimbrel on short term deals (giving up draft picks) without Machado.

FWIW (doesn't matter now), my friend's cousin, who I've mentioned a couple times here who works for the Sox, said 2 weeks ago that Machado would have worn 13 for the Sox. So that number is not completely off limits. Not that it really matters I suppose.

It really makes no sense. It's not like they got extremely outbid or as I said a few days ago, lost out to the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cubs, or a team in the middle of their contention window where he may have preferred. Didn't even prefer the West coast. I just don't get how they can be so incompetent.

Yeah. Those moves really don't move the needle at all for Machado honestly. Jay and Alonso being here are "if the offers are identical, literally matching" tie-breaker reasons to accept the Sox offer. As someone said on Twitter, Manny isn't basing signing a 10 year deal on his friends being here a guaranteed 1 year.

I'll still wear my Sox gear and continue following and continue being the fan I've been since I was a kid. But I'm spending as least as possible on them this year. I'm not going to my usual 10-15 games a year. Why should I spend my hard earned money on them if they aren't willing to spend it on premiere talent? It just means more time and money I can use towards other interests. That's fine too.

But that still doesn't explain why they would pay over $325 guaranteed for Harper if they could just pay less than that for their preferred choice.

Was thinking about getting MLB The Show this season but I've decided against it. I love playing franchise mode with accurate rosters (yes I know about OSFM) and without Manny and other moves that could have happened....yuck.

I think they were pretty much contingent on signing Manny. Like signing another starter, Pederson deal.
