  1. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 04:14 PM) If they trade JBJ (and Groome) for Abreu, the corresponding move they make is likely to go buy JD Martinez and move Benintendi to CF. Dor a team that didn't want to go over the luxury tax threshold a year ago, they're suddenly going to add about $45 mill next year to two players?
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 03:04 PM) I guess. Infinity war is a pretty iconic storyline though I'm not disagreeing. I can't wait to see this.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 02:15 PM) Well, they have been building towards Thanos since the first Thor movie, so they kind of did have to pick Thanos eventually. The MCU is based around the Infinity stones and Infinity War, Thanos is the only bad guy to pick for it. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 02:59 PM) Yeah. Curious who else could be the main villain for Infinity War? They've been hinting at him forever and was built up. I think he's just saying they could have built towards a different story this whole time and not the Infinity War story. Although, there are rumors that the Captain Marvel movie is going to set up a "Secret Invasion" story-line with the Skrull (possibly for Avengers 4 or beyond).
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 02:57 PM) I'd rather use our last great veteran trade piece to improve on our next core of players, not a guy who is going to be an impending FA next time we're good. While I agree with this, you could potentially have an even better trade chip if Bradley's season is anywhere between his 2016 and 2017 season since he plays a premium position.
  5. Hopefully it's not as light-hearted as the Thor and the Guardians movies. Something this epic should have a more serious tone.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 01:08 PM) Why. I fully expect Jose to be traded after reading Dick Allen's comments from the Hahn speech. Jose is gone as is Avi. Sox obviously don't care. Hahn is out to get that payroll down to the lowest imaginable then allegedly use that money when it's time. Modern baseball. The only time in history teams are glad to get rid of players who are beloved and has THIS KIND of proven production. It used to be you'd keep such stars til they decided to retire. Bye Jose and thanks for these numbers. 2014: .317, 36 HR, 107 RBI, .383 OBP, .581 SLG 2015: .290, 30 HR, 101 RBI, .347 OBP, .502 SLG 2016: .293. 25 HR, 100 RBI, .353 OBP, .468 SLG 2017: .304, 33 HR, 102 RBI, .354 OBP, .552 SLG. Should be interesting to see what positions they target in this deal and Avi deal. Seems to me they already have a lot of outfield candidates especially with Robert and Eloy occupying two slots for many years in theory. My guess is they go for catcher, shortstop (upgrade from Tim is possible), and pile up more pitching. Look for catchers, shortstops and pitchers in teams organizations and that's who Abreu and Avi will be dealt for. You could say 3B as well but if that's the case why did they draft Burger? I guess they could stockpile another there and eventually release or trade my man, Davidson. Greg, go read the comments on MLBTR and argue with them. The comments will infuriate you. I've lost my desire to.
  7. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 12:58 PM) I wouldn't be surprised if it is four teams. There's not a big market for first baseman again this year. If the Sox have four legit interested teams, that's a good thing. I wouldn't be either. I just thought throwing out the "among the 4 teams interested" was odd as there was no mention of 4 teams talking to the Sox haha
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) Have to imagine the Rockies and Cardinals are among the four teams interested. Really like what they have to offer in a trade. We don't know that there are only 4 teams.
  9. If you guys want a great laugh, go look at the comments on MLBTR about this. Here: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/red-...comment-1134647
  10. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) They would be the ideal trade partner.. Give me Dahl please Brendan Rodgers! Along with Pint. Also, we can draft Seth Beer and play him at 1B. Burger, Pint, Beer, Fry.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) I think you guys are hinting at an important point here so I'm going to say it explicitly - the Red Sox clubhouse was supposedly a mess last year. Price was apparently the closest thing they had to a clubhouse leader last year and he became that by attacking the media. The Red Sox's young guys like Betts weren't able to step into those roles. So, "Guy who can be a strong clubhouse influence alongside a fairly young team" actually fits the Red Sox's needs quite well. Put him in alongside Alex Cora and you've built a different team right from the start. Pedroia wasn't much of a leader last year during that whole Machado incident but he's always seemed like one. I think his teammates respect him.
  12. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 11:39 AM) Any idea who the "others" could be from Heyman's tweet? I would guess Cardinals for sure since they are moving Carpenter off first and are looking for a middle of the order bat. And I'll guess Rockies too.
  13. I don't see a deal happening here. I think Rockies and Cardinals would have better pieces to move.
  14. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 11:24 AM) He better have really wanted him... I've yet to find someone who was super happy with that deal though (like the others) If Rutherford came over and hit immediately, you would have no problem finding someone.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) JBJ is a guy controlled for an extra season who also could be extended, and since he is younger, maybe a better candidate for that. Premium GG quality defender up the middle. If you could get a good prospect or 2 with him, I have liked Abreu as much as anyone, but I'd make that deal in a heartbeat. Jose could come back in 2 years and DH. Heck, they could even flip Bradley if he has a year similar to 2016.
  16. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 11:04 AM) I know we love Jose and most of appreciate what he has brought to our team but I am ecstatic that there is even this strong of a market for him right now. Considering last season there was close to none and leading up until now it seemed to be projecting to have very little of a market with all the other FA's and trades available out there. It's surprising since there seems to be enough 1B out there for just money.
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) I'm obviously pro-rebuild and also believe that the Sox still need more talent in the system to really do this right, but I don't like this fit. Obviously there's a price for any player, but I don't see anything left in the Red Sox system that would make sense. I've said it before, but I think Abreu is worth more to the White Sox than he is on the open market. Fortunately, they are not the only team the Sox are talking to.
  18. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=bos Posted for relevance. But remember, there are other teams in play.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 10:34 AM) And they sucked the next season. They had Papi, and Napoli filling the 1b/DH spots. I wonder how bad he would have been at 3B, especially when he was a bigger guy. Napoli was a free agent after 2013 so who knows if they would have even brought him back.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 10:28 AM) The Red Sox were initially going to use him at 3B. I remember him signing while the Red Sox were still in the playoffs. I feel like that kind of hurts negotiations.
  21. Thanos is finally coming down to earth after 6 years.
  22. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 09:01 AM) Right before I mentioned that I would not want to deal any significant prospects for JBJ, and I don't like the fit of an Avi or Abreu to Boston deal if JBJ is the main piece coming back is what I meant. Basically I don't see a JBJ deal happening. Wasn't fully directed at you but I've just seen it in this thread and possibly others. My bad.
