MLB Pipeline Top Prospects
QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 09:53 AM) Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN The Astros’ Forrest Whitley, one of baseball’s best pitching prospects, has been suspended 50 games without pay for a violation of the minor-league drug program. Didn't really know where to put this, so feel free to bump. He's challenging it. I'm going to assume it's for adderall if that is the case.

Moustakas linked to Sox again
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 09:19 AM) Yep, to have a guy like Moose batting 6th with guys like Moncada, Abreu, Jimenez, and Avi in front of him sounds fantastic... I was going to say, sticking him around that spot would be fine. I know people really get into players having a high OBP, but I think OBP matters more or less depending on what spot/area of the lineup you are talking about. If he's in a spot to drive in runs after the more important guys fail to produce some runs, hewould be fine in that spot.

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 07:59 PM) If the Yankees don't want Andujar, I wouldn't mind him coming to the Sox. This move makes some sense for the DBacks and Rays, but why did the Yankees do this? So they have an option at 2B. Once Torres comes up, Drury falls back into more of Zobrist role filling in the infield and occasional OF, assuming Andujar is doing well himself. The move doesn't really impact Andujar much (at least not to open the year).

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 08:11 PM) While our stadium is certainly not ugly, I don't get why I've recently seen Sox fans, both here and on Twitter, take jabs at other teams' attendance as if we're some sort of powerhouse in that arena I was going for the ugly AND empty "jab" (wasn't really intended to be that way). Like you said, at least ours isn't ugly.

Florida firesale continues. It must feel like such a relief to get traded by a team that plays in an ugly empty stadium.

Moustakas linked to Sox again
QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 03:45 PM) Look, if we can get Mous under 50 million due to draft reasons, I MIGHT be on board. But Mous is about as 'unsexy' as it gets. I do like that he is only 29 and not some 32+++, so it's not like he's super old, but he is a Boras client and that means he is likely not going to settle for a cheap deal. For that reason I say.. No, no no no no. But I have to admit, I don't think any other team out there will take on Mous. The white sox are the only team that actually makes some sense. (Yankees won't go over luxury tax and need money to spend on the deadline etc. NO reason for the Yankees to take on Mous right now). All other teams do not need Mous, except the White Sox. For that reason, I expect the White Sox to sign Mike Mous at some point relatively soon. I also think it will be a multi-year deal and I have to hope that they get him for under $50 million due to draft pick compensation talk that I hear. edit: Don't mind me, I have no understanding of draft pick compensation and $50 million number being thrown around. Read posts above me. Sox give up second round pick no matter what.

Moustakas linked to Sox again
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 01:52 PM) Seems like if it's Yeah the team who loses the player still gets compensation (later round like you said). We would still forfeit our second pick I believe.

Moustakas linked to Sox again
With limited interest, it makes sense as opposed to handing out $300 mill+ next off-season with more teams involved.

Moustakas linked to Sox again
If the Royals were interested in Hosmer, they might as well go after Mous and sign a 1B for about the same/a little over what Hosmer got annually (and also not as long).

Moustakas linked to Sox again
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 12:41 PM) The 0.7 was in 27 games. And he really only started to hit 3 or 4 years ago. It depends what kind of a bargain he is. I wouldn't be too worried about a 2nd round pick being lost. He's definitely better than what you would expect a second rounder to be. Boras being is agent probably means the bargain cannot be met. Probably means 5 year deal with opt-out after 2 years to avoid being on the market with Machado and Donaldson and other big free agents teams will spend on.

I understand what they are trying to do IF they do have interest, even though I don't really agree with it.

I see you did what I did. Quoted Chicago White Sox's post and made a few tweaks. Lot of guys who could potentially end up in the pen so I didn't even bother thinking about the pen on my own.

PECOTA projects Sox at 73 wins
QUOTE (FT35 @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 09:45 AM) Hosmer was a 4+ WAR player with KC last year. Hunter Dozier is next 1B up on the depth chart. You have to think that his value at this point in his career isn't that much over replacement value. You also have to think that at least 1 of Hosmer's wins was against us!! So -4 Wins for KC and +1 for us...that's a 5 win impact on our year. Cool. I would actually expect KC to sign Morrison (from the area) now.

Mlb.com top prospects
I don't think info anything was withheld from the White Sox about James Shields. I think he just got hurt after. Just bad luck. Otherwise, why weren't we involved in the whole Red Sox and Marlins report and being offered to reverse the trade? Edit: either way, it's in the past now. Let's not dwell on it and talk about the guys still here.

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Feb 19, 2018 -> 05:11 PM) I have spent entirely too much time trying to convince people here and elsewhere that what you wrote is correct. The club takes on 100% of the downside risk and gets none of the upside. If it's what it takes to get a guy to sign on the dotted line -- then sure, include it -- but it's a very big concession on the club's side and should be factored into the AAV and years on the deal. We understand the risk for a team but sometimes you need to offer the opt-outs to entice the player. Especially if there are similar offers on the table.

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 19, 2018 -> 05:05 PM) Maybe I'm wrong but the opt outs seem to be 100% In the players favor. If a player is playing well enough to.opt out, you would rather he stay.on the original contract. And if he is not playing well enough, then you are stuck with him. Depending on the age of the player, it kinda works out for the team if a player opts out. Depending on how many years they are leaving behind.

Nate Jones expects to be ready for Opener
QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Feb 19, 2018 -> 10:14 AM) People that want to move Abreu absolutely amaze me I'd like Garcia to stay if he proves himself this year, but understand shopping him while his value is high Did I say I want to move Abreu? It all depends on what is offered. Also Hahn hinted that they could be brought back as free agents (Abreu and Garcia).

Nate Jones expects to be ready for Opener
QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Feb 19, 2018 -> 09:34 AM) Don't the Sox have enough on the farm? Obviously have to maintain it (Draft, shopping fliers like Soaria, Bruce Rondon, etc.) but the fire sale is over No it isn't. They should still be listening on guys like Abreu, Garcia, Jones, any minor league signing pitching well, and Castillo.

Love the rebuild, despise this attitude
Last spring the job wasn't his so he felt like he had to compete and have a great spring. This year, he knows the team knows he's ready to go out there everyday. That's all this is. I don't think it comes off as cocky or a bad attitude.

Sox clear 40 man spot
I wouldn't be shocked if he did end up a Yankee. It just means they wouldn't be able to go long-term with Judge post-arbitration years most likely. We say the same about Harper going to the Cubs only with Bryant instead of Judge.
