  1. Hypothetically, let's say the 8 year/$250MM offer is in fact what the Sox are offering. And let's say Machado's side wants $280MM. Is saving $30MM really worth the risk of him potentially not signing here? Obviously it's a different story if Lozano's asking price is ridiculous, but I'm more inclined to just give the guy what he wants if his demands aren't insane. The Sox NEED Machado. He doesn't need the Sox.
  2. If it boils down to it, yes I would rather give him what he wants even if it meant overpaying than not getting him. Maybe waiting it out is the best strategy but I feel like that opens up the possibility of another team swiping him from underneath us.
  3. Not giving him what he wanted weeks ago to get the deal done when it seemed like no one else was seriously interested in him. Now they've waited for such a long time that other teams are entering the fold again. I get not wanting to overpay but I think Hahn overplayed his hand.
  4. This is what I feared. Allowing other teams to get in the mix because the Sox were sitting on their hands for so long.
  5. So much for anything exciting happening during SoxFest...
  6. Like I said the other day, the only advantage San Diego has over Chicago is the weather. Illinois has a lower tax rate than California, the Sox play in a much easier division than the Padres, and the Sox have some of his best friends on this team. If the money is relatively equal, I see no reason why he would choose them over us.
  7. Danny Valencia makes a lot of sense.
  8. If they added those 4, I would be dancing in the streets. That team could potentially win the division.
  9. Yeah it is. They just need to offer the most money and he will sign here.
  10. I think Hawk is one of those things that people will miss more and more as time goes on. Right now some are happy he's gone because they're sick of him, but I think they'll begin to miss him at some point. Benetti is fine for what he is but Hawk is a whole different breed of announcer that we don't see anymore.
  11. Heyman follows this guy FWIW.
  12. I miss him dearly. I'll take last season's version of him over Benetti anyday.
  13. Alright, time to post this again: what page will this thread be at when Manny finally signs somewhere? My guess is 558.
  14. What about the eyeballs he posted the other day?
  15. I actually feel terrible for Alonso. His entire time with the Sox so far has just been answering questions about his brother in law.
  16. That's just typical GM speak. I'm not really sure what you were expecting him to say.
  17. I wouldn't take Hahn's comments too seriously. Of course he's going to downplay all of this. It's not like he's going to come out and say anything else.
  18. Better farm system? Debatable. Better GM? Debatable. Willing to spend? Spending 219 million on Shields and Hosmer was a good idea? Alright...
  19. The only advantage San Diego has over Chicago is the weather. That's it.
  20. I can only imagine what this thread will be like if the signing isn't announced at SoxFest today. Lol.
  21. There's a small part of me that wants to not give up on Fulmer just yet given that he was such a high pick, but it seems like the odds of becoming an MLB caliber pitcher with the Sox are pretty slim right now. A change of scenery would probably do him good. The Sox would be getting Joc out of the deal and they have a lot of other high quality relief pitcher prospects so I guess I can't be too upset about it.
  22. Fulmer, Bummer, and some no-name minor leaguer for Joc would be a great deal for the Sox.
  23. Why would the Sox trade Johnson? His minor league stats are ridiculously good.
