Machado: Update - Manny, do you officially like us?
It's over. Harper or bust.

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
Why? Happ and Contreras aren't even that good.

The Sox should and will beat 8/275 IMO.

I agree 100%. I feel like they would be much better off signing a second baseman like Jed Lowrie on a 1 year deal and going after Dallas Keuchel to beef up their rotation. Going after those 2 makes the Yankees a better team than if they were to spend huge money on just Machado in my opinion.

He's has a lot of confidence, I'll give him that. But every ounce of his credibility is gone if he gets this wrong.

There hasn't been anything suggesting it was true either...

Machado: Update - Manny, do you officially like us?
So can we all agree that Dan Clark's tweet is a load of crap?

Edwin hasn't played third base consistently since like 2010 ?

I've been a big supporter of Hahn, but if he misses on the big 2, does nothing else this offseason, and the team shows no improvement in 2019, he needs to be gone.

I personally don't think Pollock or Moustakas are the long term answers either, but I'd much rather have them than Engel and Yolmer if push came to shove.

Not that I want this to happen, but let's say the Sox miss on both Harper and Machado but sign Pollock to play CF and Moustakas to play 3B, both on 3 or 4 year deals. How would you guys react to that?

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
I guess, but I don't really foresee any of those 3 guys having much trade value a year or two down the line. None of them are that good.

If the Giants were to completely tear it down and start over, that process from start to finish obviously takes several years as all of us Sox fans are well aware of. Schwarber has 3 years of control left, Almora 4, and Happ 5. The Giants would only reap the rewards of taking on those guys for a short period of time in a couple years and that's if their rebuild progressed fairly quickly. That just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. It might be a different story if the Cubs had several top prospects whose MLB service time hadn't started yet, but that's not the case.

Like fathom said, I think the Giants should just rebuild at this point. But the fact that they're even rumored to be interested in this deal shows that rebuilding isn't even a possibility for them. In that case, I think they'd be better off signing Lowrie/LeMahieu/Dozier to play 2B and Markakis to play OF for a fraction of the financial commitment that Heyward requires. Like I said, Schwarber and Happ shouldn't be a good enough reason for the Giants to do a deal in which they take on Heyward.

Don't you think the Giants would want to get rid of the bad money as quickly as possible? Why prolong the process by acquiring Heyward? And no, I don't think Schwarber/Happ is enough of a reason for the Giants to do that deal. They'd be better off just signing an infielder/outfielder in free agency and avoiding the Heyward contract altogether.

I thought people were talking about the Sox, my bad. I guess it would make more sense for the Giants because of the reasons you stated, but I still don't know why they would be willing to take on Heyward. He sucks and that contract is horrendous. Schwarber and Almora don't provide enough of an incentive to make taking on Heyward worth it for the Giants IMO.

Almora and Schwarber were worth a combined 3.2 BWAR last season. They aren't even close to being good enough to make it worth taking on Heyward's albatross of a contract and opening the door for the Cubs to sign Harper. C'mon guys.

Why in the world would the Giants take on Heyward, even if the Cubs took on half his deal and threw in Schwarber? That makes literally no sense.

Machado: Update - Manny, do you officially like us?
I'd think that the Sox have a number that they won't go above during these negotiations. At some point the dollar amount becomes so absurd that it no longer makes sense. If it went up to 425 million, I would understand if the Sox were hesitant. That being said, I don't think it will be that high.

Machado: Update - Manny, do you officially like us?
Up the offer to 400 million and get it done. Ok...maybe that's not what Hahn would do but that's what I would do. Haha.

Sox interested in Encarnacion per Morosi
Why?
-
Machado: Update - Manny, do you officially like us?
You'd think Clark's tweet would be mentioned by the Rosenthal's and Heyman's of the world by now if it were true.

I'd do that in a heartbeat...which probably means that the Mariners would hang up the phone if that was offered to them. Haha.
