QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) Honestly I think each of them brings one thing to the table that he does better than the other two. No matter which of the three the Sox were to get, it would really improve this team. Gordon is the best defender and LF Cespedes is the best powerhitter and RF. Upton is the better all around player. Very well said. I personally feel like Cespedes would be the best fit for the Sox at this point in time, but like many others have said, I'd be more than content if the Sox can get any of the 3.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 02:51 PM) Do you think Jimmy Butler could be the best player on a championship team? Hard to imagine. Actually yes, I think he could be.

Why does everyone want Gordon or Upton? Am I the only one that would be ecstatic to see the Sox get Cespedes?

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) Bring back Rios...? *dramatic music* That name actually isn't as crazy as it sounds if the Sox lose out on the big 3. Worst case scenario is that they could get a guy like Rios to platoon with Shuck in RF.

QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 12:25 PM) I'd like Upton over any of them due to the power, OBP and age but Gordon is a close second and is more likely IMO to be rock solid in OBP and defense over the course of a contract. What about Cespedes?

Another scenario that hasn't been mentioned yet is that this whole negotiation with Gordon could purely be a ploy to bid up KC and make them pay more for him. I have no idea if that's truly the case or not, but it could be a possibility.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 11:11 AM) I personally am not worried about Laroche I think he bounces back big time this year. If you add Upton or Cespedes his bat continues to slide down in the order and the less we rely on him. I'm okay with Laroche on this team, if we have the money to sign one of these guys, I think the line up is better with one of the big three PLUS Laroache. This is the best post I've read on this site in quite some time. Well done.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 11:04 AM) I asked before, but why can't Gordon play RF? I know he's been almost exclusively in LF, but is something that prevents him from playing RF? I hate the idea of Melky or Avi getting regular playing time there. He's a Gold Glove left fielder. It would be plain stupid to have him switch positions just so Melky wouldn't have to play right.

Your Saladino 2016 Offensive Projections
If Saladino gave us .250 with 10-12 homers, 20 stolen bases, and solid defense next season, I know that I'd be more than happy. Those numbers would essentially be what Alexei put up last year, but Saladino would be doing it for the minimum.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
So realistically, what teams are left that could be in the market for Cespedes' services? I can think of the Sox, Tigers, Orioles, Royals, Angels, and possibly the Mets. Are there any others?

QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) All this talk really just means one thing: the market is starting to move. It's all smoke screen city. KC wants Gordon so for leverage they're putting out that they want Parra. The Sox probably want Upton so they're putting it out there that they want Cespedes or Gordon. 100% agree. I'd have to believe that everything at this point is pure spectulation. I'll start to believe things when guys like Rosenthal and Heyman start reporting stuff.

I will say that stealing Gordon away from KC would be a pretty nice feeling and it would show that the Sox mean business.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 06:22 PM) Maybe the Sox sign Cespedes on Christmas morning That would be an awesome present, and I'm Jewish lol.

QUOTE (fredmanrique @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) I wonder if we can go to a team with very low payroll like Atlanta and look to dump our 2015 salary-dump contenders (LaRoche and Danks) while offering a flyer on Avi as well as 1-2 legit prospects not named Anderson, Fulmer. If Adams and Danish/Beck, Michalewsi, etc can free up the ability to sign two more guys that 2-3 year window becomes a lot more serious. If they could get creative and dump both those contracts (pie in the sky I know) you'd really be talking about being able to add 2 of the big 3 OF's and/or Maeda. One can dream: 1.) Eaton, CF 2.) Abreu, 1B 3.) Gordon, LF 4.) Cespedes, RF 5.) Frazier, 3B 6.) Cabrera, DH 7.) Lawrie, 2B 8.) Avila, C 9.) Saladino, SS That team becomes middle of the pack defensively too. You rarely see deals like that in MLB but it sure would be nice. This would be my dream scenario, but realistically, a proposal like this has a .0000000001% chance of actually happening in real life.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 04:23 PM) I don't have a name right off the top of my head. But Garcia has trade value that could probably help the sox this year with a guy like Gordon added. Hahn has to have a trade partner lined up who would want Garcia if the signed a free agent Kevin Gausman is an intriguing name to me but I think Baltimore is still high enough on him that they wouldn't trade him for Avi.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 04:03 PM) Well said. Getting a true professional like Gordon would be a nice coup for the Sox. We'd be lucky to get him. With Gordon signed, the Sox could trade Avi for a young starting pitcher who may be struggling-like Garcia. If he's not starting he could be a bullpen arm. Who falls into that category that Garcia could be traded for? I can't think of any.

What is the Sox fall back OF plan ?
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) what's going on with Houston's outfield? They have four guys: Marsinick, Rasmus, Gomez, and Springer. One would think Gomez and Rasmus could be had for reasonable. Marisnick is a guy that I'd love to have on the Sox. He's young, cheap, and elite defensively.

Honestly, I would be content with this lineup Eaton (CF) Melky (LF) Abreu (1B) FA Acquisition (RF) Frazier (3B) Lawrie (2B) LaRoche/Garcia (DH) Navarro/Avila © Saladino (SS) with the bench being Shuck, LaRoche/Garcia, Avila/Navarro, and Sanchez.

I think Parra could be had for under $10 million for 2 years considering the market, but that's just me.

Hypothetically though, if the Sox signed one of the 3 elite outfielders, Parra, and found a way to get rid of Avi, what would happen to J.B. Shuck? I don't know about you guys, but I thought he was very good 4th outfielder/pinch hitter last year.
