@BNightengale The #Tigers appear to be sitting back waiting for Yoenis Cespedes, whose price may be dropping. I have a feeling that Gordon is coming to the Sox and Cespedes is going back to Detroit.

QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 11:42 AM) FWIW raBBit is saying Gordon is the Sox top target and they are in the process of extending an offer. Sox are surprised that they're that they're this far along with him but aren't sure that he's in yet. https://twitter.com/ChiSoxraBBit/status/680058757322244097 https://twitter.com/ChiSoxraBBit/status/680058757322244097 https://twitter.com/ChiSoxraBBit/status/680064910890373120 Does he have connections within the White Sox organization or is he just speculating like the rest of us?

FWIW, this is what Dan Hayes said about 45 minutes ago on Twitter regarding the outfielder situation. Take it as you wish. @The_Xsport I never said it doesn't make sense. They'd be much better off. I don't think they're going to do it though. My guess is 1/2 @The_Xsport they want to start out w/ current group going every day & if it isn't working they'll try to add a bat after season begins. 2/2

I take what Hayes says with a grain of salt...I start really paying attention when guys like Rosenthal and Heyman start reporting news.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 08:14 PM) We've never paid a $100 mil contract so how could it be "such a white sox move"? I was referring to the Danks/Dunn/LaRoche deals. Though they were under $100 million, they still blew up in our faces. I just hope this wouldn't be the same if they did throw that much money at him.

I'd offer Gordon 4/70 and if he declines, f*** him and go all in for Cespedes or Upton.

It would be such a White Sox move to pay Gordon $100+ million based on his past performances only for it to blow up in their face.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 07:50 PM) "The Royals have been told by Alex Gordon‘s camp that they have “no chance” to re-sign their franchise cornerstone as things currently stand, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Gordon’s camp is seeking a contract that will pay him upwards of $20MM per season, and Heyman hears that Kansas City has only offered four years, noting that Jim Bowden reported at ESPN that the annual value of said offer is believed to be in the $12-13MM range." http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/roya...lex-gordon.html If that's the case, then I really hope the Sox go for Upton or Cespedes. Imo, Gordon isn't worth 20M+ annually for 5 years or more. f*** that! NO, NO, NO!!!! I will be extremely upset if the Sox give Gordon a 5 year/$100 million or more deal.

Imagine if the Sox got Gordon, Cespedes, and found a way to get rid of LaRoche so that Melky could shift to DH? It would never happen, but I would jump for joy if it did.

The LaRoche article dug up from 2015
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 06:42 PM) Again, you aren't going to get any savings. There is plenty of room in the 40 man roster for now. If he is still crap this spring, they can move on. There is no need to rush unless there was a financial gain to be made now, which there is not. The fact is this guy has been consistently a power bat. Last year was awful, but players have bad years. See how he is with a clean slate. Most early projections expect him to bounce back at least a little bit. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 07:17 PM) I agree with DA. If it takes eating more than half of LaRoche's contract, then just keep LaRoche and hope for the best. If money is so tight that the Sox need that tid bit of savings then they shouldnt be in the market for 100M players in the first place. 3-5M in savings is not much when were talking about players that are seeking 20M+ annually. Another way of looking at LaRoche is that he was so bad in '15 its hard to imagine him not rebounding to some extent in '16. Even if the Sox utilize LaRoche in a bench role he can provide some potential late inning pop as a PH and or 1B defensive replacement. Who knows? Maybe, just maybe, LaRoche batting in a lineup that now has Frazier and Lawrie to go with Abreu will help LaRoche in some way. It's a stretch but a possibility. DA is right, let's see what kind of ST LaRoche has and go from there. I could not agree more with these posts. The Sox would be plain stupid to pay LaRoche $13 million to play ELSEWHERE next year. Their only logical choice is to keep him and hope he rebounds, even just a little bit. If he doesn't, he's gone after the season anyway.

Sox claim Jerry Sands
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) When is Hahn supposed to hold the press conference to introduce Sands? At the same time that he introduces Avila, Navarro, Frazier, Lawrie, and Cespedes.

QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) 4 years, 78 million. Throw it out there Hahn! That is too much for Gordon IMO. I'd rather give 120 million to Cespedes or Upton.

World Series 2016 here we come!!! But seriously, do you guys think that this is a precursor to another move?

What if they dont sign one of the big OF FA?
I don't know about LaRoche or Melky, but Sale is a lock to have under a 3.00 ERA IMO. The only reason it was so high last year is because the Twins killed him, and I'm fairly confident that he will have corrected whatever hurt him against them by the time next season starts.

2015-2016 NBA Thread
The Bulls remind of the recent Sox teams of the past few years in the respect that they feel internally that they're good enough to compete, but realistically, they're a good 2 or 3 pieces away from being a real contender.

The Sox are signing one of the big names, so this thread isn't necessary. At least I hope so lol.

If Shuck stays and Avi/LaRoche are platooned, what would the rest of the bench be? I just can't see the Sox carrying 5 outfielders assuming that they sign one of the big guns.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 10:33 PM) I think Gordon and Cespedes bring a lot of intangibles to the lineup, just in different ways. Cespedes as power hitting destroyer of world's and Gordon as a guy who keeps rally's going. Both are winners and I'd be fine with either one but would prefer Cespedes. Upton is a bum who draws a few walks for bad teams. A "bum" might be an overly harsh way to describe Upton. He isn't my first choice, but I'd rather have him in right field in 2016 than Avi and I don't think any Sox fan would disagree with that. If Upton is a bum, then I have no idea how you'd describe Avi.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 09:11 PM) The efficiency difference is just insane. Also, as good as Butler is defensively Leonard is still easily better. Look at what he did to Paul George last night. How exactly is PER measured? Sorry for the noob question. I'm much more knowledgable in baseball to be honest, but I do enjoy basketball too.

PPG / APG / RPG / PER / FG% / 3PT% / FT% Butler - 21.5 / 3.3 / 5.0 / 20.83 /.450 /.326 /.823 Leonard - 21.1 / 2.7 / 7.4 / 27.53 /.510 /.472 /.879 Leonard might be slightly better, but I don't think it's as outrageous of a difference between them as you guys are saying.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 03:51 PM) Can you give me an idea of what that starting 5 might look like? You can pick anyone from the NBA too. The best I can come up with is replacing Carroll with Butler on the Hawks last year (would give them 5 all stars) and I still don't see them winning a championship. What about the Spurs? Put Butler on their team and they're still a championship contender and he's their best player to boot.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 04:01 PM) Typical. If there was a clever retort to be made...or a substantive response. Oh well. While your original post has a point, how is any of that relevant to next years team and beyond? The past is the past. Hopefully the Sox have learned from their mistakes from the times you listed and improved upon them.
