  1. We're better off using our money to upgrade at multiple positions instead of giving Cespedes 27.5M for one year. He wanted the Mets and that's where he went. Can't be upset with the front office on this one
  2. He's not worth 25 per year. That's crazy. I guess it doesn't mean much though because chances are its only for 1 year I won't be surprised when he's seeking 25 AAV next offseason for a longer contract lol
  3. I'm glad I started talking myself out of the Cespedes idea earlier today
  4. QUOTE (staxx @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:41 PM) My single ray of optimism is that usually when the Sox are completely out, a beat writer that usually covers the sox will report so. I don't trust outside writers information with that. The silence could be good.... maybe? who knows. i quit. Well since my name is Ray, I'll agree with your ray of optimism.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 03:51 PM) https://mobile.twitter.com/pgammo/status/690285876962787328 Is he serious??
  6. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 03:50 PM) That and he's sort of trolling people That's just plain cruel
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 03:46 PM) Oh man, Werth not only is market untradeable he's literally untradeable. Honestly, doesn't that mean if they sign Cespedes they are putting him in CF? Looks like it! Didn't he share his desire to play CF? That brings down his defensive value imo. He's obviously better in a corner spot. Maybe Nats are hoping for NL DH soon lol
  8. I would throw Cespedes 5/100 (to match Nats) with a player opt-out after 2017. He gets the chance to play at a hitter friendly park with friend Jose Abreu and he gets free Beggar's Pizza for the duration of the contract
  9. This is killing me. I've never been a patient guy but jeesh, this is getting ridiculous.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 10:19 PM) Joel Sherman and Heyman tweeting a lot about how good of a fit Cespedes would be on the Angels. Sherman has been on top of things this offseason. But but but... He's a better fit for the Sox, right?
  11. QUOTE (South Sider @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 09:23 PM) [meatball post] Awww, the stupid White Sox can't finally pony up for a premium free agent. But look, we made other marginal additions! Look at Fraziers numbers! He won't have any trouble playing in a league with better pitching! And Lawrie is a grinder with room to improve! Except he is injury prone and hasn't lived up to his potential yet! We don't need Cespedes... Garcia will get better (better odds of that not happening) and if we sign Fowler, he can add his elite OBP skills! Forget that he is just a nice ballplayer on a team that is already elite!" Cespedes isn't a perfect ballplayer, doesn't have elite numbers, but he does drive in runs, and the Sox NEED THAT. If he was a perfect player, he'd be commanding in excess of a 200 million contract! Pay the man what he is WORTH, for crying out loud. It's no wonder Sox fans don't go to the park, Reinsdorf and company will rarely ever sign a premium free agent. For crying out loud, other teams have signed what appear to be crippling contracts yet they still compete, they still sign useful players during other years. I know Ilitch is old and crazy, but having insane contracts already didn't stop him from adding to his team. We have ZERO "insane" contracts and can't finally decide that maybe one "insane" contract might be worth the risk? I'm sick of this. I hope the Sox understand that even though they already have a bleak attendance outlook, it's only going to get worse for them with an "all-in" attitude without actually going "all-in". They may as well just had sold high on their assets and started a rebuild, and they would get the same attendance outlook. [/meatball post] Thanks for putting up with it. I actually enjoyed the read. I wish I didn't agree with you
  12. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 10:05 PM) Given a choice as owner for the White Sox starting now, who do you take? Ilitch or Reinsdorf? Well... Ilitch does have more money to commit to his team Jerry is a great guy though!
  13. It's just really difficult to see our division rivals racking up two of the three big guys we were supposedly "interested" in at some point. Now there's one left of the three and there hasn't really been anything solid to indicate he could end up with us. All we hear about is the dreadful 3 years or less. Can't blame people for being anxious and impatient
  14. Not even upset about Trace being sent. He's a .240 minor leaguer with some nice defense. NEXT...
  15. I really like the idea of Cespedes. I think having him on our team does wonders for both the club and the fans. Not sure how I view the contract he is probably going to get but I think adding him will light a fire in this club. Anyone know if he has a history with Abreu?
  16. This is awesome! Don't stop here though, load em up
  17. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 05:07 PM) What if the Sox got Lawrie, Frazier, CarGo, and Upton within the next 24 hours? This forum would explode lol. Woah
  18. Last year the Sox signed Robertson and traded for Samardzija at pretty much the same time. Seems like Hahn tries to do a couple deals at once. Teams/players are going to become impatient and move on
  19. MLB Network guys talked about Upton as a fit for the White Sox. Said he would provide the offense we need but one said Cespedes would be a better fit in his opinion because we need a spark plug to add to the team. Said it would be good for Abreu and Cespedes to have inner competition
  20. Can't see why some are so upset over this. Pretty solid/decent move in my opinion
  21. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 01:30 AM) I feel like anybody we get this off-season is going to disappoint the hell out of us. We have every right to feel this way, but eventually someone has to work out
  22. I think Upton would help our offensive numbers.. but isn't he a streaky player? We should avoid those.
  23. It's not such a bad thing to hope and dream a little bit. Fan optimism never killed anyone. I think the front office needs to be smart this offseason but also be willing to take risks. If they want to compete they may need to add big guns. I believe most Sox fans are tired of playing the offseason like a small market team. Small patches won't fill the seats nor make this team compete. With this pitching staff and Sale/Abreu in their good years, now is the time to do this.
