White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton

#WhiteSox talking to free agents with QOs attached. Upton is their prime target. Should be an interesting few days.

There were rumors at the deadline that the Sox liked Upton.

Oh no.

I hate this so much.

No. No. No.

Please don't let this happen. I'd much prefer Cespedes or Heyward.

Agree on both (though I don't even want Cespedes haha).

I really hope not. If the Sox are going to give up a pick for a FA then try to get Heyward in a contract with an opt-out Claus. Heyward's defense, LHB and low K rate are much more appealing.

I think Heyward will be too much money for the Sox (I prefer him over Upton as well), but Upton is still in his prime and would bring much needed power to this line up. He did steal 19 bases as well last year.

Sign Upton

Trade Avi + a decent prospect for Lawrie

Bring back Alexei last minute

Sound about right?

Upton is a good player and would be a fine addition to the team but not for the draft pick we will lose and the contract he will get.

Also, if we sign 2 QO players, do we lose our comp pick and 2nd rounder, or 2nd and 3rd rounders?

WE lose the Samardzija pick to sign a QO free agent. We would lose our 2nd rounder as well if we signed two guys

If we're going to sign a power outfielder I'd rather sign Cespedes since we won't give up a draft pick.

Nightengale predicted Upton to the White Sox so you know there's definitely some truth to it.

Like the player not the compensation.

depends on the contract. if they lose the comp pick but get upton for 100MM or less then i'm absolutely fine with it. Like, 5/95 - 5/100

if the sox lose the amateur draft pick one might expect them to go hard for international players next July 2nd? just a thought

Well put.

Ugh.

Shoutout to raBBit for reporting it by the way

Lawrie is not worth a decent prospect.

Would Upton, trading for Lawrie, re-signing Alexei be enough? It feels like we would still need to make one more addition to put us over the top. I already figure Thompson and LaRoche to platoon in any scenario (Thompson in OF, whichever OF needs a break at DH).

I sure hope not.

To contend?

Not even close

Alexei- good lord.

Sign Upton, trade for Frazier, that lineup is gonna score some runs

Exactly. I kinda just want to stay away from this. Yet I don't know what else they should do since I don't think they should rebuild (...yet).

I rather go after Cespedes to wake up this sleepy lockerroom. Upton is a nice player and I think only 2 years older than Heyward.

Heyward and Longoria would be awesome but that won't happen.
