That's been pointed out already several times, but Heyward is also a much better defender than Eaton and we had by far the worst defensive outfield in the MLB. Is that enough to make Heyward's massive contract worth it? Maybe not, but Heyward's a 6 WAR player for a reason.

I still don't trust defensive metrics (Eaton is a great example, DRS had him as one of the best defenders in the league last year, UZR had him as below-average), but if you consistently rate negatively you're probably a bad fielder. Same the other way in the positive direction. The individual metric itself I take with a rather large grain of salt though, especially when trying to compare fielders of relatively equal ability, good or bad.

I don't think anyone would complain if he put up those numbers with that average (in fact, we'd be ecstatic). Not saying he's likely to put up those numbers, but I'm willing to give him a shot.

Even if his offense falls off a bit from his September numbers his defense is good enough that he has a shot to be a 2 WAR player. We could use a lot more of those. I don't think that slash line is that far out of reach for him, especially seeing how he drives the ball. EDIT: 0.4 WAR, not 0.5.
