  1. I'd be fine with trading a good prospect if we get someone who isn't just a rental. It'd have to upgrade our team beyond this season.
  2. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:01 AM) Bruce is a good hitter. Not overpaid. Would not just be a gamble for this season but would help the next two. He'd be worth the talent we would give up. This Carlos Gonzalez talk from people, now that has disaster written all over it. I'd be down with Bruce, he's only really had one bad year. Just please don't give up Anderson to get him.
  3. Not sure I'd want Tulo though with that contract and injury history, plus he's about to be on the wrong side of 30.
  4. I'm fine with it as long as we don't do something stupid like trade Adams/Anderson for CarGo/Upton.
  5. We better win these next two games. If we do and the Pirates sweep the Twins then let's f***ing do it.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:15 AM) On the other hand, if you're always in the business of buying high (Dunn, Cabrera, LaRoche, Keppinger, Robertson) and not on dips, then you'll be completely screwed if you also have a bottom tier farm system. Look at guys like Contreras, Pods, Hermanson, Dye and AJ before 2005. You can add Jenks to that "questionable character" list as well, with AJ. All of them were risks and had major red flags of one sort or another. Same with Carl Everett, for that matter, and El Duque (pretty big contract for someone who was going to struggle to be the 5th starter). Sometimes, you have to roll the dice when you look at the track record of Puig over a three-year period and his age and then try to analyze what's actually going on....how much of it is physical, mental, comfort level, pressing? You make a good point but you generally don't want to buy low and sell high in the same move, which is what we would be doing by trading Quintana for Puig.
  7. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:10 AM) The Cubs would never do that. I wouldn't do it either though.
  8. I was for trading Q for Puig initially, but the more I think about the more I don't like it. Puig has red flags, and his performance this year is a big one.
  9. What's Rock's connection to the White Sox?
  10. I know fans often overrate the value of their own players/prospects, but reading this thread a lot of posters are criminally undervaluing our top prospects (Adams AND Montas for Cargo? Get out).
  11. If EJ still qualified as a prospect where would he fall in the top 100?
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 01:09 AM) Crazy stat. Salvador Perez 2015: 1.3 WAR Geovany Soto 2015 season: 1.0 WAR Actually after yesterday's games Perez is at 1.2 WAR and Soto is now at 1.3 WAR. Soto is now ahead.
  13. Cubs pitching has been noticeably worse since Montero has been out, and I saw a stat that said Hendricks has been the 2nd biggest benefactor of pitch framing this season after Leake. Montero is one of the best framers in the game, I wonder if that has played a factor in the recent pitching slump.
  14. Pass on Upton, he's been completely brutal at the plate the last two months.
  15. QUOTE (Special K @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 08:41 PM) Love every bit of this. Danks in pen sounds great. But getting LaRoche out of the lineup sounds even better. One big remainder though, how on earth do we get Alexei out of the lineup? Can Sanchez at short and Micah try second again? Can we just stomach Gordo at short? I can't watch Alexei anymore. He is the worst hitter maybe ever. Alexei has a .764 OPS after the All-Star Break, he's fine right now. It's LaRoche and Avi that need to get out of the lineup.
  16. Several radio guys after the game today mentioned multiple times that our farm system is "barren" and that we had nothing down there to trade. It might not be super deep or loaded, but we're definitely middle of the pack, right?
  17. Yeah it should be expected Danish would struggle at this level at his age. If he's still pitching like this a year from now I'll start to worry.
  18. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 11:16 PM) You are way over-rating Hoffman. A ton of GMs would choose Anderson over Hoffman. Yea, some GMs might have picked him 3rd (cough - KW -cough) because he throws hard, but his fastball needs movement. He has a long way to go before showing he's a front-line ace. He didn't have ace-like numbers in A ball. Regardless, 1/2 a year of Tulo, not to mention the 4 years they get, is far more valuable than 1/2 a year of Justin Upton. People want one of these Cargos or Jay Bruce? Erik Johnson and Montas. Move on. You're saying we'd have to give up Johnson and Montas for Bruce or Cargo? Pass.
  19. Why did the Cubs start Beeler? He's awful. Where's our pal Clayton Richard?
  20. Upton has an OPS of .608 and .480 the last two months. Yuck.
  21. Win the next two and I'm completely on board! I know our schedule is tough in August but f*** it, this is fun.
  22. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 09:06 PM) Yes this team has 5% chance at best at making the playoffs sub .500 on July 28th. Can't you just enjoy a dominating winning streak.
  23. What the hell is with the 9th inning in Fenway?
  24. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 09:02 PM) Lost 5 of 6 at home does not nullify my point at all.. IF IF IF You said we got whipped, that wasn't true.
  25. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 08:59 PM) 2 game sweep lets get to .500 before we start praising playoff chances. Still a sweep, and it nullifies your point. If Duke doesn't blow that 8th inning lead we go 3-1 against St. Louis.
