  1. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 11:28 AM) No it didn't "Great" might be pushing it and I know the projections didn't really like us, but even then a bunch of guys are hitting below their projections, some well under like Melky. Even if you were pessimistic you shouldn't have expected this kind of offensive ineptitude.
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 11:29 AM) The hell did Anderson do recently to get going? Play a bunch of MLB: The Show and just focus on getting walks? 4 walks in his last 43 PAs! That's huge for him.
  3. QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 10:38 AM) The Sox will definitely be drafting a high-upside prep player today, the question is who will it be? Edit: My choice is Fitz Stadler, 6'8" local kid with a lot of potential as a starter. I went to the same high school as Stadler and have a brother who's a student there and a brother who's a teacher and football coach there. Just texted them to ask about Stadler, and here's what they say: "No. Too mentally weak. Just got beat up in his last high school start too." "He is 6'8" and has a straight fastball that reaches about 88. He is soft with no offspeed pitches. One of the best players on North just scoffed at that text because Fitz isn't very good." I haven't seen him pitch so I don't know, but what do you see in him?
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 10:31 AM) The front office has been committing crimes against baseball for years now while refusing to blow it up, yet can't put a playoff team together. Unfortunately, they gave Jerry a WS game ball so they have a lifetime pass. Probably with blowing it up is the only players who would bring back any value are the ones you build around while rebuilding. Plus do you really trust our minor league staff to be able to properly handle a rebuild with young talent?
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 10:17 AM) Yeah Q has been better. Quintana does have a 3.25 FIP, he's been hurt a bit by a high BABIP, though a lot of that is probably our piss-poor defense too.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 06:18 PM) With the MLB Draft I do feel like it's important to remind people that "Taking the best player available at every pick" is a strategy that probably won't work out well for you because you won't be able to sign most of them. In that sense it is very, very different from drafts we're used to for other sports like the NFL or NBA where there's very little reason to pass on "Best player available". If your scouts can get a couple "diamonds in the rough" in those first 10 picks and at the same time you save yourself money to come away with 1 over-slot guy, you can set yourself up for the best possible draft. Especially since we gave away our 2nd and 3rd round picks to massively upgrade the big league team and successfully turn ourselves into a winning team through free agency, you take a look at the overall picture and hope you get 2-3 players out of the full thing, or at least 1. If only Melky had been a "massive" upgrade. Sigh...
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:17 PM) That doesn't sound right. How do you have a higher batting average than BABIP? Homeruns don't count into the equation.
  8. Since I'm not sure how the draft rules work, can someone clarify for me? If we don't spend all our allotted money, and since we have a lower amount allotted to us because of the loss of our 2nd and 3rd rounder, does that mean we have more money for the international market? Can we throw more money at Martinez?
  9. Despite a rough start to the year, Sale is now tied for 4th in WAR among starting pitchers, and that's with missing a start too.
  10. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 07:52 PM) If this is true then you trade him. You need offense and this is a different era of baseball. This is not what we once knew of pitching being a premium. The tables have turned and now dynamic offensive hitters are a premium. Quintana on this team that isn't going to make the playoffs. Quintana has never been a pitcher that he accumulated wins. Get an unbelievable can't miss prospect out if him now before his stock falls so far it's not even a possibility. Because it will. Baez has bust written all over him. You can't be serious about the wins comment, his horrific run support is not Quintana's fault. Even though his ERA doesn't look great this year, his peripherals are still pretty good (3.25 FIP). He's also got a very team-friendly contract for a while and has a proven track record. No way in hell am I trading him for Baez, who looked horrific in his short stint last year. His K rate may be down this year but it's still high and he's not facing ML pitching. I wouldn't trade him for Schwarber either, give me a proven hitter if you want to trade him.
  11. Can't believe I was worried about Sale a few weeks ago, he's been completely dominant lately. He deserves to be in the playoffs, can we please not suck at least one year he's with us?
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 11:02 AM) At one point in the 3rd Dellavedova went to the bench and Curry immediately hit a three. It was all during a little montage with JVG and Jackson reviewing all of Dellavedova's good defensive plays. As soon as the 3 went in, the camera panned to Dellavedova who screamed something like "that's because i'm on the bench!" Crazy opinion alert: maybe the Warriors and the West generally were significantly overrated this year? If GS was such a great team, how is Lebron + scrubs keeping this close? Other than rebounding, the Cavs are pretty bad at everything else. Love going down was probably the best thing to happen to their defense (if Love is healthy does Thompson have nearly the impact he has had?), and a not 100% Kyrie was killing them defensively as well. The guys replacing those 2 are way better on the defensive end, so they're not losing as much overall as it might seem. However, they don't have much depth, and they might be too gassed to last the whole series.
  13. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 10:40 PM) I told y'all high line drive rates are completely unsustainable You seem to be finding perverse pleasure in his performance falling lately. You mention it in every post.
  14. Cubs now in third place and they continue to fall among the rankings in runs scored. Their supposed dangerous lineup isn't doing so hot.
  15. The division is really tough and we'd have to jump a lot of teams, so I'm not sure we can do that even with positive regression from our offense, but I'm not sure I buy the Tigers as "elite". Their offense has been a lot worse this year than in years past, I think their rotation has overachieved, and they still don't have a great bullpen. They've been struggling lately overall as well.
  16. I agree that we've underperformed thus far, especially guys like Melky, but I'm just worried we've put ourselves in too big a hole. I know it's still relatively early, but even if things went right we were thinking we'd be in a dogfight for the playoffs. Unfortunately we're in the Central, which so far has easily been the best division in baseball and we struggle against pretty much all our division rivals. I do like the optimism though.
  17. With us beating the Astros the Twins have the best record in the AL right now. Who would have thought that entering June?
  18. Can we stop s***ting on LaRoche now? His numbers look pretty decent now.
  19. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 30, 2015 -> 05:20 PM) Another guy sets his career high in K's against Sox YEAH! Believe it or not Sox on offense are just are 23rd in strikeouts, about the only offensive category we do well in.
  20. Every major league player should be capable of mashing those pitches.
  21. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 29, 2015 -> 08:16 PM) Tyler atleast take some f***ing pitches; defend the zone, and take your f***ing walks. He took a lot of walks in the minors, why didn't that translate to the majors?
