3rd time through the order coming up for Latos, I'd have a quick hook next inning.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 03:44 PM) Lawrie's stats scream "average ballplayer." He is what he is. He's worth the 3 mill a year probably. We could use more average ballplayers after all the terrible ones we've had to suffer through recently.

10 in a row, still keeping the ball down and inducing grounders.

He's getting his curve over and keeping the ball down.

I like all these weak ground balls Latos is inducing. Keep it up.

I don't like Latos' velocity but none of the A's hitters have hit it hard off of him yet.

Some optimism for Danks this year
Tony Blengino published his ALC Batted ball profiles for all the starting pitchers in the division last year (including Price), and Danks' profile actually looks pretty good all things considered. His profile has a "true ERA" of better than the league average, and it was surprising to see that his average exit velocity was 2nd lowest in the division after Sale. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2015-starti...ive-al-central/

Not encouraged by his velocity so far.

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 12:05 AM) hard to accept a loss when you only surrender 2 runs, f*** Didn't jump on Gray when he looked vulnerable too, disappointing, though there were a lot of hard hit outs.
-

It's a shame because I don't think Gray has pitched all that well.

This game has been death to line drives on both sides.

I'd rather have a weak arm that can catch the ball in RF, than a strong arm that can't.

Figures our guys hit the balls hard right at fielders, but they hit the ball weakly and find two holes.

Samardzija's first three batters of the season - walk, single, single. Picking up right where he left off with his first inning troubles.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 12:22 PM) The only thing I can fault him for so far was the decision to let Petricka start the 8th inning in the opener. Jones should’ve started that inning instead. Eh Petricka was already warmed up from the inning before and he wanted Duke to face the lefty. I know he walked the leadoff man but it's not like Petricka usually has control problems. That was fine.

Hoping for a repeat of last year, when we knocked him around for 7 runs.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) No, no it was not. He reached out and swept his hand under the fielders leg as he was throwing. Citing the slide rule was wrong, that was interference. Yeah this had nothing to do with the slide rule, baserunners have never been allowed to grab the infielders. It was a good call.

I think Putnam is better than he's given credit for. Last year he got pretty unlucky with a 17.5 HR/FB% (only 4.3% in 2014). I think that has to come down. And it's not like he was giving up hard contact, his average exit velocity in 2015 was 85 MPH, which was near the bottom in all of baseball.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 09:28 AM) I forgot how many ace pitchers Abreu has homered off of. Kluber, Kershaw, Gray, Price, Verlander, I'm sure I'm missing someone.

Carlos Rodon breakout article
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/carlos-rodo...or-already-has/ He's one of the few Fangraphs writers who picked the Sox to win the division, and Rodon is a big reason why. Let's hope he's right!

Who's your favorite prospect not named Fulmer or Anderson?
For me it's Eddy Alvarez or Jordan Guerrero. Alvarez would be a great story and by all reports he's a great guy, so I really hope he at least makes it in a utility role or something.
