  1. Don't misunderstand. I don't expect him to pitch like an ace. I just don't think he's going to be this "innings eater" some of you guys seem to think he will be. I see it far more likely we'll come to the end of the season dreading the fact we'll be on the hook with him for $20M AND as a #4/5.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 02:15 PM) 6 IP 3 ER 7 IP 4 ER 7 IP 2 ER 6 IP 3 ER 7 IP 1 ER 6 IP 1 ER 6 IP 4 ER 7 IP 0 ER 6 IP 2 ER 6 IP 2 ER Actually, for a 4th starter, pretty good. He wasn't being paid as a #4 in San Diego, though. He was their Ace @ 66 IP, 32 ER giving up all the walks and jacks I already listed.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 02:06 PM) Right an extra inning or 2 a start. Up until Seattle, he had been going 6 or 7 every start. Yeah, and the Padres lost all but 2 of those 10 starts while he gave up 7 HRs and 23 BBs. Not good.
  4. With the fans - your damned if you and damned if you don't anyway. Remember the last Anderson we brought up? He wasn't rushed, and the knock was he failed at the MLB level for not being played ENOUGH because Ozzie hated rookies. I'm excited to see what he can do.
  5. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 01:53 PM) Maybe they think that, but it just doesn't make sense to me. Anderson is a defensive downgrade from Saladino. Offensively, he's probably an upgrade. But how much of an upgrade? A .700 OPS vs. a .650 OPS? Is that enough to justify bringing him up early? Maybe, but I'm not seeing it. Me thinks this probably has more to do with sending a message to the team than anything else. That the FO is committed to try and do anything/everything to turn things around. Let's face it - SS is weak and thin anyway. Saladino and Sanchez have had a shot. And as you noted; not likely to be much difference offensively. Unless he commits 10 Es in 10 games, I don't see what harm it can do. It's been widely reported that he's not the type mentally to fall apart and lose his s*** when he struggles.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) Call's stats. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/pro...asp?P=alex-call Those are nice looking numbers. Seems to be getting better over time too.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 01:26 PM) I could see the Sox letting Kenny leave for his promotion that he wanted so bad before I see Hahn leaving. Shapiro's job? I think that's a pipe dream. Any team seeking a person to fill that position should have a much better track record of drafting, farm management, and international shenanigans.
  8. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 01:22 PM) I dont want to go down that rabbit hole again but there are a lot of reasons why. For one, that is not how JR operates. Two, JR wouldnt do that. If there is to be any accountability for the 3 year plan failing (and I'm not saying there will); I will guarantee you Hahn will go down before Kenny.
  9. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 01:01 PM) With the past few moves, I think it's safe to say that everyone on this team including the coaching staff has been put on notice. I didn't believe that Ventura was in any danger of losing his job but after seeing them cut dead weight, I truly believe he is a bad series in KC away from being gone. It also feels like Rick Hahn is under a large amount of pressure to win this year. Agreed and they SHOULD be. You go from 1st and 14 games over to 4th and .500 in a month...in this division, without injuries. That is an epic collapse.
  10. I think Jack Cust and Grady Sizemore are still available.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 10:57 AM) Austin Jackson has been pretty hot since moving there. I don't see him moving. I know - I was just being facetious (i.e. - Jason Coats last Sunday).
  12. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 11:57 PM) I predict we lose the Sale game, lose the Quintana game, win the TBA game. Because White Sox. AND...because those are against RHP.
  13. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 12:51 AM) Alright, you can relax, he's not gonna pitch fewer than 3 innings in every start. What happened to the bar of 7 innings? A few guys actually went as far as saying he is our new #3!
  14. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 12:07 AM) Shields was absolutely brutal tonight. San Diego has been trying to trade him since last year's trade deadline and the fact that the Padres were willing to eat so much money to ship him out is quite concerning. He needs to figure it out and figure it out quickly. Pfft...that one only cost what...$250K? ($5M/20 starts left if healthy)? We have another $20 MILLION OF THIS to look forward to while we continue to have ZERO hit/run scoring power. Because "innings eater".
  15. Who are you to wave your finger, must've been out your head. Eyehole deep in muddy waters..you practically raised the dead. You must've been....so.....high.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 12:11 AM) It's a lot more common around baseball now that starters aren't expected to go past the 6th inning. If a game gets out of hand, it's a valid strategy to protect the pen and prevent having to make a roster move. Necessary evil in some cases. It's also common around baseball that you shouldn't burn through 4 BP pitchers per night, but Robin has done that like hot cakes. Thank GOD for Sale and Q.
  17. QUOTE (MDWhiteSoxFan @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 11:09 PM) Our bullpen would still be atrocious, we were never getting Cespedes away from New York. Yes Desmond or Fowler would help the offense, but that wouldn't do much for the starting pitching outside, or the pen. I don't think we are 1 player away from being a solid offensive club either so I imagine adding one of those to this team would have had a slightly higher scoring team with the same results. There was no chance this team was going to fill all it's holes in one offseason. C, 2B, SS, 3B, DH, OF(x2), SP... Hahn did a lot with what he had. Lawrie, Frazier, Jackson...good moves. So was Latos. I'll argue that with anyone. I wanted Hahn to go for both Jackson and Latos after they didn't get Cespedes and they did. Latos gave us more last night than their guy Ross did...and more than Shields did, too. He's a 5 for chrissakes! Then the $14M found money came along and still no bat. That's incompetence. But hey - we got Fulmer and Anderson still...
  18. No, that can't be. He gives us 7 IPs and saves our BP...it was a good sign or else "others would get him!" Then I saw JB Schuck pitching. JB. Schuck. Something something 30 starts x 7 = glory. Whatever.
  19. If we're strictly looking at how the Astros and Sox have spent the last 10 years and where they are today as some kind of study as to who is more inept - you have to give the nod to the Sox. Both teams have exactly 1 playoff appearance and 1st round exit in that time (though - the Astros lasted a game longer and it was more recent). Add to this that the future for the Astros and their young core looks a lot better than the Sox does right now (I honestly don't know whose farm system is worse), and as Balta pointed out - the Astros even managed to waste TWO (2) #1 picks in this time. It doesn't matter who had more wins because....who cares?? I'm not sure why you even keep bringing up 2nd and 3rd place finishes with 88 and 90 wins when it wasn't enough to get in the playoffs for a shot.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) The guy that hasn't played in almost 2 weeks? haha Yeah but his avg and on-base have moved up 40 pts in the last month and his OPS 60 pts. Still can't slug for s***, but that's not what he is. And 2 Hs, BBs, & Rs last night.
  21. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 03:33 PM) Problem being: I haven't drank in about a decade. Anyone who was around here back then will attest to the fact that your suggestion is not a good idea... At all. Unless you would like white sox themed polls who's only potential voting options are comprised solely of Mars Volta lyrics. Yah. Doesn't sound like the worst thing in the world... Substitute any of Maynard's work with MV, and I would probably become your biggest fan.
  22. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) Priceless. I do have a mild case of OCD which is exasperated by stress. When your outlet for stress is causing stress, things tend to become compounded. Drink MORE when watching the Sox, in that case.
