QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 31, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) Sale vs Verlander No Cabreras today. https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/771024370726764544 https://twitter.com/tigers/status/770989074752516097 Why in the world is Avila hitting 5th? Oh Robin...

September is going to be a looking month of baseball for the Sox. They are going to get pounded by the division.

http://www.csnchicago.com/video/morneau-we...pable-going-run This is an interview with Morneau and Saladino. Something Morneau said that caught my attention: " I've been on a team where we were 8 games back and made the playoffs, Shields said he was on a team where they were 10 games back on September 1st and they still made it." If the Sox continue to play like they have been against their division in September, and the right teams lose games, then it is possible, but it's a long shot. Sustained success has not exactly been the Sox' forte. I will say this, if they complete an extremely unlikely sweep of Detroit this week (which means they will need a lot of offense with Shields and Raunado pitching), I would seriously consider them a candidate for the 2nd wildcard spot.

Something to be excited about... Fulmer threw 5 perfect innings for the Knights on Sunday throwing 47 strikes out of 72 pitches, and struck out 5. Maybe the Sox need to use him as a starter rather than a reliever out of the pen when he comes back to the majors. http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/198...s-5-perfect-ip/

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 12:55 PM) Feel free to discuss certain rumors about the club potentially being for sale (albeit, these rumors appear to be largely unsubstantiated). Well, seeing as they just agreed to new naming rights for the stadium until the late 2020s, I don't think they are going anywhere for a while. If anything, I think new ownership will take over in Chicago.

3 games out of 4 from Seattle. Bring on Detroit. I sound like an idiot for saying this, but a very unlikely sweep against Detroit gets the Sox back in that 2nd wild card spot conversation. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 28, 2016 -> 04:26 PM) What we need for 2017 is outfield help and bullpen help and catching Hahn said Narvaez has put himself in a position to be a part of the plans for the next few years. We might sign a back-up catcher, but I think Narvaez is the primary catcher for at least next year, and I am more than okay with that considering what he has done so far. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 28, 2016 -> 04:24 PM) Man Morneau is so good. I thought he'd be completely done when he joined. Wondering if a 2 year DH deal is too much for him... -

There ya go Melk Man! Much needed insurance there, and a chance to tack on another with less than 2 outs. Another triple. Tim Anderson with the single and stolen base, this is how it's done. -

Ya know, the park doesn't look empty on the weekends. It only looks empty on those weeknight games. -

Dan the man Jennings...nice play by Saladino. Sox need to score more runs, Seattle will not have 1 run by the end of this game. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 28, 2016 -> 03:07 PM) I doubt they bring back Albers so we should be fine there. Minor league deal at best for depth. That pen definitely needs another lefty and long reliever though. Could see one of Putnam or Petricka moved. I agree that it needs a long reliever, but not necessarily another lefty. If you have good right handed pitchers, they should be able to get both out consistently. I'm of the speculation that lefties vs. lefties or righties vs. righties don't matter as much, and in fact I think they can often distract from the real holes that need to be filled.

I'm nervous that the pen might blow this game for Rodon, if he doesn't give up any runs. -

QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 28, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) Who is this team? Looking more and more like the team we saw in April. As long as they don't play the AL Central, or the Rangers, they are fine. September might be hell for this team considering all the games against the central: 3 in Detroit (starting tomorrow) 4 in Minnesota (doesn't really count) 3 vs Detroit 3 vs Royals 4 vs Cleveland 4 vs Royals 2 at PHI 3 in Cleveland 4 vs TB 3 vs Minnesota That's a lot of games vs KC, CLE, and DET -
Potential 2017 bullpen: Putnam, Petricka, Jones, Jennings, Burdi, Robertson, Ynoa? This is a solid pen when healthy, there are a lot of ifs, such as can Burdi succeed in the majors, health, Robertson putting it back together. I'd rather have Ynoa than Albers.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 27, 2016 -> 10:08 PM) I remember a few years ago on this very board I suggested Q may end up being more valuable than Sale. I took a lot of heat for it. I backtracked a bit saying I mostly meant with all the talk of Sale being a high risk arm. But Q is the man. Back then there was always talk that Q wasn't legit , he couldn't keep doing it. Smoke and mirrors you heard a lot in reference to Q but he has just kept getting better and better. And he does it while minding his own business. Those are my favorite guys to watch. They respect the game, do what they do, and that's it. They let their talent do the talking. I loved the standing O by the fans today when Q was taken off, and his hat tip. I remember him saying in an interview this year regarding the trade speculation around him at the deadline, he made it very clear that he likes it here and he wants to win a championship in Chicago. He is by far my favorite player wearing a White Sox uniform and I hope he stays for his entire career here, and he's only 27. He has at least 10 more years left in him, barring (God forbid) injuries. Jose Quintana is the real ace of this staff. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 27, 2016 -> 09:37 PM) Man, I really would trade Sale before Q. I always liked Q better than Sale. I really hope he gets the Cy Young. He's been so much better and so much more consistent than Sale. -

Having an outfield with fantastic arms AND good instincts is a blessing in itself. We have had a lot of runners cut down on the bases this year from Eaton and Melky. Pitchers must love that. -
