You are correct, sorry the base offer to Machado was supposedly $250 mil over 8 years (31.25 mil per year), and supposedly there were player incentives that would have added millions more. They also offered more to Wheeler than he signed for with Philly.

To say they weren't allowed to make offers is wrong, the players took the offer that was more comfortable to them, whether it was climate, money, or love, it can't be said that JR didn't allow his GM's to make big offer's.  My take is the player's weren't impressed with the Sox and went elsewhere

Mannys offer was a sham. He would have never reached the incentives and the Sox could have limited his PT the last 3 years to make sure there was no vesting. I wouldn't be surprised if JR called Wheeler and told him the importance of family and making the best decision for your family. It's always about appearing to be at the table.

An outfield of Benintendi, Robert and Colas should be sufficient power wise.  Not great, but good enough.

Class will be a rookie and an unknown. Robert has to actually hit for consistent power first before it becomes a given. Those three would be last in baseball in terms of power outlook.

Sox also need lefty hitters that can get on base against tough RHP.  I’m not as concerned about getting power from LF.

We have no power in RF at the moment and Robert hasn't provided enough power either yet. It's a valid concern at this stage.

His power wasn’t awful until last year.  He would be hitting at a much smaller park (KC to CWS).  He was always the guy that you had to wonder if the Sox would go after, as they LOVED him in the draft and the Grifol connection.

At the position he plays I'd like more power. You may be correct about the field being a factor, but we've seen this story too many times. We always get the worst end of production from our signings.

I believe that he stepped down due to health issues, but it's also notable that in his final press conference, he admitted that the fan discontentment might have led him to step down regardless

    Hmmmmmm.

If the Sox are willing to spend $10 million or so for a year of Gallo or Brantley, you'd think that they'd look at the benefits of spending another $4 million or so for Benintendi.  The issue, of course, is Benintendi will be seeking, and will get, a multi-year deal.  But, dammit, why wouldn't they say, "Well s%*#, let's solve LF for the next four seasons for $14 or $15 million a season?"

    But, you know, logic.

Does Benintendi have any power left in his bat?

Still pisses me off that the Sox tanked a whole season only to draft Madrigal. Who in thier right minds would ever draft a college player with a top 5 pick that can barely hit the ball 400 feet during batting practice? The guy is also one of the worst baserunners I have ever seen.

Whoever scouted and signed off on the Madrigal pick hopefully is no longer employed by the White Sox.

He was only drafted high because of Altuve.

Do I think the Sox have a legit shot at the playoffs ? Maybe.  Would I like to get young players ? Yes

DO I think the core can rebound enough to get excited about the Sox again and give us a shot at the playoffs.  Yes.

DO I think money and players from a Hendriks trade can help the Sox too ? Yes

Whats your plan? Should we just say rebuild now and end all discussion for those who want to think there's a road where things go well for 2023 ?

If you aren't going to spend money with the big boys then you need to rebuild again. The only shot we have for sustained success is if almost all of our young guys reach their full potential. If too many don't, then we are screwed.

We’re all setting ourselves up for disappointment. Nobody’s going to be happy at the end of the offseason because Hahn can’t/won’t/doesn’t know how to make the right moves.

What? Everyone is already disappointed and frustrated with this team. We expect nothing, and will still somehow get kicked in the sack.

Alright boys, do we think Rick makes a move tonight?

Gun to head I say ‘no’, but hope he proves me wrong.

We can make a few nice moves but still be mediocre sadly. We can't just spend so we'll be spinning wheels and hoping for a ton of luck this year.

Cubs think they can contend. Gonna be spending a lot in the next few weeks.

I said it a few weeks ago and will say it again. The Cubs are gonna pass us this offseason. This organization is a complete joke and I wish there was something the fans could do about it.
