yeah obviously, no and no.....I was being sarcastic. Of course, Renteria said in the post- game interview that he would slot Gio Gozales into Lopez slot if he is injured.....and that is perhaps more of a crazy idea. GioG threw like a batting practice pitcher

Maybe expedite Crochet or ask Kopech to reconsider and whip himself into shape in the next 2-3 weeks. ... or make the 5 spot in the rotation by committee with Lambert and Heur taking a few innings each. Or just punt the season because, according to Bennetti, no one expected or should expect the Sox to contend for the Division this season anyway..

Gio Gonzales looked like and overweight middle age former big leaguer pitching in an old timers game.
-
Why didn't Moncada start ? Why didn't they start Cease instead of ReyLo against Minnesota? What was the pitching game plan against Minnesota hitters? Pitch them inside? It didn't look like there was any strategy whatsoever. Why didn't McCann catch Giolito? Why did they leave Eloy in the game after he was obviously a bit dizzy? That was a pretty quick and ineffective concussion protocol. Everyone watching on TV could see he was a little groggy and shaking cobwebs loose. Why not put Leury in RF instead of second base until Mazara returns? These and many other questions and we are only 3 games in.

I was not a Renteria critic before the 3 game series started.
-
I watched Ozzie on the pre and post game shows. I think he is a better Manager that Renteria and by a wide margin.
-
Gio Gonzo looked awful, absolutely worthless.
-
If ReyLo was not feeling well and was maxing out at 92-93 mph in the bullpen warm-ups, maybe they should not have let him start and risk making his situation, whatever it may have been, worse. He clearly was not able to throw his fastball with the velocity that he usually throws it.
-
Stone added that this was always going to be a 4 or 5 year plan... We lost to a good team, blah blah blah Reduce fan expectations early.
-
Benetti said that no one expected the Sox to contend with the Twins this season. Wut?
-
Neither should Gio

Lopez looked kind of sick (like flu, Covid, or issues with dehydration/heat) when he went out there.
-
Lopez made a wild pitch and grimaced as though he experienced some discomfort causing Grandal to immediately point to the dugout. Clearly Grandal felt there was something that was impacting Reylo's velocity and location today especially on his last pitch. Hopefully it was something that is not an arm injury.

All of the air in our fan base just got sucked out. I feel fuking sick.
-
I would like to see Reylo throw his heavy 97 mph fastball inside on Keppler . Not low and inside where he could crank it but more in on his hands to back him off the plate.
-
Collins should be sent to Schaumburg when Mazara is ready.
-
Giolito got blown up early and put us in a 5-0 hole, albeit with some questionable defensive play. Minnesota is going to mash a lot of pitchers who primarily rely on fastballs, especially when they are as straight as arrows. If Reylo's fastballs have no movement and are in the zone, he will probably have the same results that Giolito did. Then there is the question of Reylo's slider. Can he change speed on it and get a few K's with it? I'm not too concerned about Reylo or any other starter given the depth of our pen. Just take him out early if things start getting out of hand. Plus, the heat and humidity are going to be brutal so i would not expect any pitcher to last very long today.

IMO, Collins adds nothing to this roster and nothing to our catching core or Grandal/McCann. He is a LH hitter like Grandal so he is of no extra value , i.e., in a RH/LH hitting platoon. I question his game calling skills after watching him last year looking into the dugout for pitch selection. He doesn't impress me as the brightest tool in the shed. He walks a lot but then he clogs up the bases.
-
The Sox should try to extend McCann. IMO, McCann's value has been underrated. There is more to catching than "framing." McCann excels at handling pitchers and calling pitches. He studies hitters and knows what to call. He definitely should be Giolito's catcher. I am worried about tomorrow with the Twins dialing it up to hit fastballs. We need another Keuchel / Buehrle type against the Twins. RR has to be ready to go to the pen early and the Sox have to pound again.
-
RR did not want to hurt Grandal's feelings by not starting him on Opening Day. He could have just switched catchers, Too easy. Or, he could have switched pitchers and have Keuchel start the opener, but then Gio's feelings might be hurt. Can't have that either. and, RR may not want to hurt Abreu's feelings by taking him out of the clean-up spot.
-
exactly.
-
McCann worked with Giolito like hand and glove last year. So maybe stay with what worked. The line-up is debatable . I would prefer Robert and Eloy up there. Why? The top three guys have speed on the bases and Eloy seems like a bigger threat for pitchers than Abreu at this point. 1. Tim Anderson 2. Yoan Moncada 3. Luis Robert 4. Eloy Jiminez Every loss seems like 2 losses with this shortened schedule....especially against a division rival. Today and Sunday are must wins.
