  1. I agree with that. No way Collins comes up to DH. That would be a joke.
  2. Crochet may provide the bullpen what many of us hoped we might have gotten from Kopech - a late inning flame thrower. This season only seems to get more interesting as we move along...a season that a lot of fans thought was a waste of time to even ponder just a few months ago. Who among us isn't enjoying this season now ? I just feel grateful to the players and everyone involved for making this season happen whether we come away with a pennant or WS or not.
  3. As someone else mentioned, this series with the Twins fired up Eloy and even guys on the bench who aren't playing every day. The games had the urgency of the play-offs, and we won 3 out of 4. Cody Heuer came into his own as a set-up guy. Colome had ice in his veins. Madrigal showed how to focus and grind out every at-bat. Pito proved he is what we thought he was - the leader of this team. If a few more guys pick up their game, the Sox could go to the World Series...THIS YEAR. There, I not only thought about it, I said it.
  4. ReyLo looked pretty good until he allowed that home run in the 6th inning. He kept the Sox in the ballgame and that is all that they needed.
  5. Thank you ChiSox59. I found the article with the comments from Menechino you mentioned. MENECHINO: “I haven’t figured that out. He’s in between mechanics sometimes. He’s in between approach sometimes. There has to be some kind of pressing going on in there. Sometimes he’s in an advantage count and gets fast to the ball. “We have a team that’s hitting really good, and we have a team that’s scoring a lot of runs. So maybe sometimes guys just say, ‘Hey, let me just do whatever I can to help the team win.' Not focus personally on their goals and stuff. ... He does his work. He does everything really good in the cage. He prepares. He’s doing everything he can do. And that’s all I can ask.” https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/news/frank-menechino-on-2020-playoff-preparation
  6. Has Menechino been asked about Mazara's struggles by the Sox beat writers? It doesn't look like Mazara has changed a thing since day one in a Sox uniform.
  7. Platoon Engel and Mazara in RF. Ask the great Menechino to help Mazara with his stance, approach and swing. EE - Star using Grandal and McCann as DH instead of EE when they are not catching. Maybe bring up Mercedes to DH some. Not sure if Vaughn can handle DH yet and it's awfully late to experiment.
  8. Eloy was raking...two hits and a line drive out in that game. You have to take that in consideration, not just stats.
  9. I don't see the Eloy decision as being clear cut, one way or the other. I had some other concerns like why a slumping EE hit with men on base while McCann was sitting on the bench. Then starting Mazara... . I have been preaching patience with Mazara but he is rapidly approaching the Mendoza line. Maybe start Engel n in RF the rest of the way or at least make RF a platoon. Mazara might have lingering issues with Covid so I would not entirely give up on him, but it is getting old seeing him strike out so often.
  10. RR's decision was a close one, but questioning it like he is incompetent and did not weigh the alternatives is ridiculous.
  11. Eloy has been crushing the ball all season and in clutch situations. Eloy already had two hits and another line drive to Right Center in that game. It is easy to question a Manager for making a decision like that, especially in hindsight. OK, I'll play ...So if Minnesota ended up pulling even in the 9th without the double, then Eloy comes up in the bottom of the 9th and hits a walk-off, RR is a genius. OK.
  12. Luis Robert has been in a small slump. It was actually good to see him get a walk in a key at-bat. Can't wait until he starts crushing it again.
  13. Hindsight is 20/20. I agree with RR and SoxBlanco.
  14. The series has been generically referred to as a "subway series" for decades by fans and some in the media, including the late Jack Brickhouse, who announced games for both the White Sox and Cubs. But anyway, some people have to be little wizeass b1tches and pick, pick, pick instead of trying to contribute any useful or original thought.
  15. The Sox and Cubs probably have the highest chances of meeting in the World Series this year than they have in some time. I do not want to ever see that happen because of the divisive nature of the rivalry and how it impacts people I deal with every day....but it is a possibility now, and a pretty good one.
  16. That doesn't seem to be the same standard applied to Rick Renteria, or Kenny Williams or Jerry Reinsdorf. But anyway, OK. Proceed.
  17. Because of the hitting coach?
  18. What has he done for Mazara ? I'm asking. That is the guy who really needed to be coached up.
  19. Cali: Your observations are right on the money. I imagine that scouting reports on Mazara note almost everything you pointed about Mazara's approach, stance, bat speed and more. Mazara can't cover the outside half of the plate and as you mentioned, he igets beat by fastballs that he does not appear to react to in time, or he just doesn't have the bat speed to catch up to. There were a few articles I read when the Sox traded for him by sportswriters for the Rangers. They commented that Mazara did not respond to coaching very well down there. I am wondering if he is having the same issue here with the Sox coaching staff because he does not appear to be making any adjustments to his approach. This guy is a beast. All he has to do is touch the bat on the ball and eventually one will go over the fence. There was an off-color joke about a guy with a big schwanz that nevertheless couldn't get any pussy. That's Mazara.
  20. Mazara has looked good defensively. He has decent speed and a long reach with his height and wing span. At the plate, he has started to make better contact. Let's try to be patient with him. He has already hit 60 HR in his young career so the power is there...somewhere..
  21. Bad pitch call by Grandal with two strikes.
  22. How many rookies have been called up to the majors to be a team's full time DH ? I'm not saying it would be unprecedented, I'm just asking.
