I agree with cauli on the VP pick and his rationale. However, I might be a little more negative on Klobuchar based in part on the nasty demeanor she has demonstrated on more than one occasion to her own staff. Biden would have to forge a middle ground with Warren on Health Insurance reform, but I see that as something that could unify the Dems and increase voter enthusiasm and turn-out My guess is he picks Klobie.

ESPN: MLB looking at May start, all games in AZ, several changes
tray replied to soxfan49's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Major league baseball issued the following statement: “MLB has been actively considering numerous contingency plans that would allow play to commence once the public health situation has improved to the point that it is safe to do so. While we have discussed the idea of staging games at one location as one potential option, we have not settled on that option or developed a detailed plan. While we continue to interact regularly with governmental and public health officials, we have not sought or received approval of any plan from federal, state and local officials, or the Players Association. The health and safety of our employees, players, fans and the public at large are paramount, and we are not ready at this time to endorse any particular format for staging games in light of the rapidly changing public health situation caused by the coronavirus.” Passan is feeding into false hope. Several players, including Chris Sale, have expressed concerns about being quarantined for four months in AZ away from their families. Bottom line is that no plan is on the table and won't be until this thing is under control. It is what it is. -

You can't make plans like this unless you know what will be going of with this pandemic in the next several months ...and we don't. Or as Ruth on Ozark might say, "How the fuk can you start a baseball season when you don't even know if this pandeemic or whatever you call it, is done yet? -

I would be in favor of a series of exhibition games this Fall without fans in the seats, but not a partial season of "regular" games under the proposed conditions The proposal Passan touts feels like something that is a cross between fantasy baseball and the real world. The play-offs would never be recognized as legitimate and would lack the essential qualities of play-off baseball that make it what it is for fans. A Fall Training camp/ Exhibition (Cactus and Grapefruit leagues) with restrictions on fan attendance would provide baseball on TV for fans to enjoy (webcast ALL the games) while taking the pressure off the league, its teams and players to concoct some fanciful , fake season. It would also allow young players to continue their development and veterans to keep their skills sharp for 2021. If Exhibition games are cancelled, no big deal and no need to schedule a double dipper in the desert. Do we know if AZ Covid has peaked yet? Do we know if there will be a recurrence in the Fall ? This season is almost certainly going to be cancelled. It's hard for us to come to terms with that but it is what it is. Buckle up buttercups. -
Health insurance is the primary issue between so-called moderate democrats and the rest of the Dem Party . If you are a Dem. and have good employer based coverage you should be in favor of keeping it. If you don't, then I guess you may not be a "moderate." It used to be that moderate and liberal meant something that had nothing to do much with health insurance coverage. My own opinion is the the employer based health insurance system is inherently unfair and that it has not been subjected to public oversight. I would be fine with transitioning out of private health insurance by progressively ending employer based coverage and expanding Medicare. I guess that makes me a flaming liberal.

I don't understand how player contracts would be re-structured to adjust for a partial season where the revenue from the games would be drastically reduced. Would every player have to agree to a percentage and would that take into account the loss of revenue from not having fans at the games? Would there be a few players who, like LeBron , would not want to play in games without fans ? Would the teams with grapefruit league ST facilities agree to play all of their games in AZ ? What happens when one guy on a team tests positive, and then another? Everybody keeps getting tested every day? We are so screwed with this fvking virus. -

TV revenue alone might not be enough. -

My own opinion is that the 2020 season will be cancelled. My hope is that a vaccine gets discovered, tested, approved and made available prior to Spring Training 2021. Perhaps the 2021 season can be moved back a month or two if that would help. I don't know how the Great Depression impacted attendance at games and ticket prices but if the economy continues to tank, tickets for 2021 games should be reduced dramatically. However, that would be a tough pill to swallow for franchises that might already be on the brink of Bankruptcy by then. How many could sustain the loss of revenue for an entire season ? -
I watched Trump presser yesterday. Why is any of our time and tax money being spent on a useless border wall instead of on hospitals, medical staff, CV-19 testing and medical research to find treatments and a cure ? And what does drug interdiction at the border have to do with this pandemic ? Maybe the House has to propose legislation to stop any funding for the border wall, at least until after the response to the corona emergency has been funded and resolved.

Anecdotes are not evidence in court and certainly not scientific proof. A placebo pill administered to all but the senior citizens would yield anecdotal evidence of "efficacy." People go to college and take classes in statistics to learn how this kind of trash does not amount to a peer reviewed legitimate study let alone a reason for drugs like this to be administered to humans for CV-19. Even more troubling to me is that those drugs nave caused serious complications when not prescribed in the right dosages and for a proper purpose. I guess for people that do not want to learn about scientific method, perhaps they can now figure out by themselves that we would be seeing the death rate seriously diminish if this crap was effective. Politicians need to the scientific community do their work and just stfu for a while.

Exactly what it is. And he isn't the only snake oil salesman looking to profit off a pandemic. I see Yahoo message board posts every day that make false claims like "my buddy was in critical conduction with the Corona virus , then he was given hydrochlorinique and zpac, and was able to walk out the hospital a few days later." People are losing patience right now and don't need a pep talk or false hope...just the facts. . President Trump has issues with Democrats and people that are disloyal in his own party but he can't continue to make his problems our problems. The country needs to unite right now and we all need to get on the same page and on the same schedule. I don't see that happening yet.

I was referring to Trumps longtime family Doctor Borenstein. I guess Trump likes Doctors who look like Aqualung and make wild claims. https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2016/08/trump-doctor-harold-bornstein-admits-rushing-excellent-health-letter.html

Uh no. The study in France involved people who were not Seniors and those without serious pre-existing medical conditions. You can give a placebo pill to otherwise healthy young people and most will recover after being infected the Covid-19 virus To cast further doubts, the dude who is promoting hyrochloriquine looks like Trump's family doctor. https://www.france24.com/en/20200329-french-expert-says-second-study-shows-malaria-drug-helps-fight-coronavirus

I think Trump should just shut up for a while.
-
I am not aware of any definitive studies that demonstrate how long immunity to Covid-19 lasts after recovery from infection. If it behaves like a flu virus or even the common cold, immunity would not even last until the next cold/flu season.

China? Small sample size.. (kidding)

The rate of infection can be slowed but probably not stopped given that there are tens of thousands who have been diagnosed so far and the fact that CV-19 is highly contagious. This makes me think that the measures we put in place to flatten the curve may do that but may also lengthen the curve considerably. That could mean this shit will be with us for years not months, unless and until a vaccine is invented. That also does not bode well for baseball this year. I am laughing at all the people that whined about Bernie's socialist agenda but now want government to bail out their business or pay them unemployment. The rationale for helping a low income person who cannot make ends meet is not much different than the rationale for bailing out businesses when they need help.

Poppysox said: Trump has been trying to give people the hope that the end of this pandemic is nearer than most think. People hear what they want to hear. No minds are being changed. Trump is trying to give hope on the Corona virus by blaming it on China, Obama, and touting fake remedies. No minds can change if they are glued to the Fox box and Right Wing radio. Change starts with you.

Thank you Cauly for that and for your unique perspective from your location, especially at this time. Before I say what I want to say , I also want to respect everyone here regardless of their political views. So, you can agree with conservative issues and support Trump because he promotes most of them, including; lifting environmental regulations, more tax breaks favoring corporations and the wealthy , trickle down economics, get Roe v Wade overturned, build a tall border fence, no food stamps, welfare, Obamacare, student loan forgiveness, Social Security ,Medicare, or other "socialist" FDR/ Berinie / "Democrat"programs. However, it is another thing when a President repeatedly lies to the American people, does not appear to be morally, physically , or psychologically fit for his Office or when he places personal/financial interests including his desire to remain in power over the interests of the country. It is the latter that now concerns me the most. Seeing Bill Barr standing next to Trump instead of Fauci and hearing Trump and his henchmen like Kudlow espouse a survival of the fittest strategy gives me pause, especially as an older fellow that needs to stick around a few more years to support my family and see the White Sox win another Pennant or World Series.

If the season is lost, how will it affect players?
tray replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yes, no end in site for baseball this year. At this point I just hope they find a vaccine for this virus so we can have a full 2021 season. -
Geezus Chryst.

Forget Italy. Look at what is happening in New York City now. One death per hour and rising. People would really be be freaking in the Chicago area if we start piling up dead bodies from CV19 like NYC is. if we get that bad it will be National Guard time to protect people from themselves.

You have potential liability if you have trees that you know pose a danger to a neighbors property and fail to remove them. Your homeowner insurance will likely cover any damage, but there is a possibility that they may not if they find that you knew about the risk and failed to act. A limited hang out road to save money would be to have a tree service remove the limbs that pose a risk to the adjoining property. Before deciding whether to trim or remove you have to ask yourself whether or not these trees add value to your property (appearance, shade, a place for birds, bird feeders). Some people think Box Elders are kind of a garbage tree. One of their worst qualities is that they are the host for the box elder bugs which you probably see on that side of your house and maybe even in your house. If you plan to stay at that house, or even if you plan on selling it, I suggest that you visit a local nursery or even the garden center at Lowes, and look at some lawn trees, smaller ornamental trees and bushes. Google the trees you think you like and find out how fast they grow, whether they like full sun or partial shade, and whether they prefer well drained soils or wet environments.. Plant them strategically taking their mature height/width and the lot lines under consideration, do some mulching and landscaping and you will be rewarded.

Callis has the record for "ya know"s in a podcast. He had reticence about Madrigal opining that he may be a .275 hitter in the majors that can play good defense but will not hit for power or get many walks. I didn't hear the part where Callis was excited about Yermin.
-
I agree. I would also compare Madrigal to Nellie Fox - a Golden Glove second basemen who averaged 2 HR per year.
