  1. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 03:06 PM) There's gotta be a guy on the farm that can do better than Shields. Dump Albers and Shileds becomes an overpriced big mistake mop up guy. Shields actually did alright today. Should have been pulled after walking Ortiz. Albers gave it up.... Along with Abreu's throw.
  2. At least Shields knew he didn't want any part of Ortiz there.
  3. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 01:49 PM) what caused Hawk to want blood?! Hitting Abreu somewhere in the upper region. At work, just watching ESPN ATM.
  4. Damn..... That sidelined him for a while, possibly multiple months. Screams that we make a CarGo or Bruce trade regardless of what Coats does.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 27, 2016 -> 10:48 AM) Why is it that 1300 at bats isn't enough, and he has to prove that he is mentally capable enough to handle the job, yet you keep saying bring him up in July? Either you bring him up when you feel he is ready or you don't, the super 2 date should be irrelevant if you think he needs to prove he has the mental fortitude to handle it At the END of July, if he keeps showing some form of consistency, yes. Thats the mental aspect of it. I also did not say 1300 AB is an insufficient amount. He needs to show consistency throughout them. It shows a good sample. If he does, then great. Can't call him up after just one good month after his first 2 months in AAA. That's rushing. It's the same reason why you do not trade for a half year wonder. Consistency. Too much potential to bust. That's just my opinion. If Rollins keeps sucking, then it may force your hand. I want to see him in action as much as the next person, but patience is a virtue.
  6. QUOTE (Dunt @ May 27, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) Gordon Beckham comps are lazy, the only reason people are bringing him up is because he's the freshest failure in our minds. They are very different situations. Not as much as it is lazy as it is a good comparison mentally for Anderson. Gordon was a SS converted into a 3B that was a mental midget... The game is 90% mental. That's just my opinion. Does Shawon Dunston ring a better tune? Personally, we need Anderson to do what he is best at- utilizing his speed and need him to grow defensively. That's why he needs to stay put where he is. He's an ideal #2 hitter with Eaton being our leadoff, or #9 to start out. Melky should be our #2 at the moment. Rollins at 8 or 9. If Robin wises up and puts him there, there's no real need to bring up Anderson until the end of July.
  7. Personally, you keep Anderson down for as long as he needs. This situation screems Gordon Beckham to me all over again if you rush him up. Sure he has 1300+ MiLB AB, but he needs to show he has the mental confidence. Remember, not that long ago Anderson was very raw, he's just starting to grasp. You have to see if he can fully handle his position for more than a month or so, on a consistent basis. Keep him down until the end of July, unless he proves AAA is like shooting fish in a barrel. That's just my two cents.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 25, 2016 -> 08:30 AM) Sure, if he's like Schwarber. But there's a HUGE advantage in today's game in getting offense from the catcher's position. How many catchers have an OPS above 800 right now in the majors? 4...Castillo, Perez, Lucroy and McCann (last three are barely over)...then you've got Molina and Posey. Having a catcher in the Top 20% at his position is a huge-difference maker, unless he just doesn't have the confidence of the pitching staff and he needs to DH, but IMO it's a lot better for a young player's development to be intimately involved in both sides of the game, at least in his first 3-4 years in the majors. Technically 5... Trevor Brown had an 802 OPS as of before last night.... He's now at a 782... 56 ab's though.
