QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 05:13 PM) What's the connection that Groce/Illinois has to Evans? I'm not sure but they are actually in on a couple kids from Texas in this class (Evans and Thomas).

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 04:56 PM) Well first of all, it depends on your definition of elite, but I guess you are talking top 10/15 guys. Outside of that, he's landed good recruits, especially given where the program was at. Anyway, you're dead wrong on not playing from behind. Did you miss everything coming out of the Brunson's camp after the Snider fiasco? From all indications, Illinois was completely out of the running, and Groce worked his ass off to get back into it and even be considered, let alone top 2. So if we are taking what the Brunsons said as true, then Groce's own f*** up caused him to be behind in this recruitment so that doesn't exactly make me feel better about it. And yes, I'm talking about McDonald's AA caliber recruits. Groce is landing some very solid players and has gotten a couple of guys I think will be great college players. But Weber also landed similar caliber players (in terms of rankings) towards the end of his tenure. Land Evans and this all moot, strikeout on Evans and I see no way we land Thomas or Bragg and you will then be 3 years in without an elite recruit and I'm not optimistic about landing one in 2016 (well maybe Murray but our best chance there would be striking out on Evans and then convincing him to reclassify to 2015).

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 04:48 PM) Yes, because he's had just so many chances and has been playing from behind on every one of them. If you can't land a single elite recruit in 3 years I don't have faith that you are suddenly going to after that and he isn't playing from behind on any of the recruits in this years class.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 04:39 PM) Well, he better hope that Evans picks Illinois or it's going to be a rough couple of seasons. What's he like 1 for 3 now on 5 star guys, and the 1 became a zero on signing day? They will be ok. The problem is that it will be becoming pretty clear that Groce isn't capable of landing the cream of the crop.

It will be Nova. Jawun Evans is going to be by far the most important recruit of Groce's tenure.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 01:39 PM) True, but they still got him and aren't they on the PF from there now as well? If you get them to commit/sign, it doesn't matter what the connection was. It was a good move and they may be able to land another player or two from Huntington before that well starts to dry up. It just doesn't say anything about Anderson's ability to close on recruits without hiring someone they already know which you can only do so often.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 01:30 PM) Why's that? I was impressed you guys got MGC. I wasn't. They hired his prep school coach to get him.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 09:20 AM) Again, as would/does the fringe of nearly every fan base. Spurned lover response. I'm not going to freak out if he doesn't come here. I'll freak out he chooses Nova and Evans chooses OK State. That'll set Illinois back, yet again. And I think we lose out on Bragg. Get one of these PG's and Bragg is still a legit possibility. Brunson/Evans, Bragg, Williams and Jordan is a top ten class. Thomas would still be a possibility too. If Groce doesn't land Brunson, Evans or convince Murray to reclassify to 2015 and get him, there really won't be any reason other than blind hope to believe Groce will be able to win big at Illinois.

Ray Rice Cut and Suspended Indefinitely
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 02:58 PM) Just making s*** up here. There's no evidence of that, at all. Also, I'd like the record to show that we're treating women differently here, even though we're not supposed to. Equality, right? If Rice had hit another guy in the elevator this is a non-story. Michigan just kicked a player off the team and that kid is facing criminal charges for sucker punching and knocking out a guy that was caught on video so you are wrong here. What would be fantastic is if universities and professional sports teams stop letting guys off the hook for this type of behavior simply because they are good at sports.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 04:36 PM) Does the employer have the right to fire you without justification? I'm truly asking as I don't know. Right now Rice can say he had no legal action taken against him. Why should the business take action when the courts didn't Again don't take this as I agree. I think he should have been prosecuted. But since he wasn't, I don't know the justification. It depends on if you have a contract and what your contract says but most people are at-will employees and can be fired with or without cause by their employer.

Ray Rice Cut and Suspended Indefinitely
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 02:37 PM) Uh, no. Losing your job isn't an overreaction to punching someone in the face and knocking them out. Agreed in all instances and even more so when you have a 220 pound athlete knocking out a 120 pound woman.

@DanWetzel: Don't worry, only a few weeks until NFL puts pink on its uniforms to show it cares about women.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 10:13 AM) I don't see how this video changes everything. We already knew Rice knocked her out, to have some new reactions is childish. The suspension was sickeningly short before, and it remains sickenly short now. There was the chance (albeit slim) that she was being incredibly violent with him before we saw the video. That isn't the case after watching it so having a new reaction to the video isn't childish at all.

Roger Goodell is a f***ing joke. I legitimately hate everything about the NFL other than the actual football.

2014-2015 NCAA football thread
The Big 10 is a freaking joke. The entire conference is basically eliminated from playoff contention tonight and rightfully so. There isn't a team in this conference that is a top 10 team in America, let alone top 4.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 6, 2014 -> 10:27 AM) D-Rose looks like a dude who's super athletic but has never played basketball this morning. He's been really bad throughout the tournament. I'm glad he is playing to get rid of some of the rust.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 03:41 PM) I think you've nailed other coach's pitches to him regarding why he shouldnt go to Illinois. Not really. The only true PG on Illinois' roster next year is Tate and both Evans and Brunson will be better than him from day 1. Cosby can play some PG but he really is more of a SG.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 10:44 PM) Then you've still got Russell, Almora, Schwarber, McKinney and Vogelbach. Why even mention Vogelbach? Dude is a DH who has been incredibly mediocre in A ball the last couple years. I don't get the love for Almora as an elite prospect either. I know he plays CF, but he has shown no power at all and never walks. He also doesn't steal bases.

9/3 at Twins
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 07:39 PM) Yep, his performance since signing the extension has been horrendous. Terrible luck for the White Sox on that one. Can't fault them to signing a really good, young pitcher who had no history of injuries to a market/below market deal.

9/3 at Twins
John Danks is f***ing awful and has been since he got injured. It sucks but that is reality. Anyone banking on him ever being a decent starting pitcher again is doing so based on blind hope.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 07:31 AM) i think Fitzgerald is going to have to step back and realize that the golden boy luster CAN wear off, and stop having some of the bizarre press conferences he has had the past couple years. I don't think I've ever heard a coach make as many excuses for a loss as Fitzgerald has for their loss to Cal.
