QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 09:18 AM) I don't either. I think now is a time IU could go with a good solid coach that doesn't have to be a big name. On a separate note: Am I in never, never land thinking that if IU fires Sampson that the penalties won't be that bad or possibly not more than a loss of a scholarship or two with probation? Here is my thinking. It is obvious that Sampson and his staff were the problem here. The NCAA report stated that they believe Sampson lied to IU investigators as well as the NCAA. IU has a clean history with no major violations in the past 45+ years. Sampson made mistakes and unfortunately they were the same kind of mistakes he previously made. His actions in essence tell you that he chose to be selective in how he was going to follow the sanctions placed upon him. Now if he didn't fully understand them, then he is stupid or IU did a terrible job covering them. My guess is that doesn't even apply. So I am wondering, if IU fires Sampson, self-imposes say another scholarship and extends that to two years, what else is necessary? The problem has been eradicated in that scenario, IU is punishing iteslf going forward for making the hire. Is that enough? I'm trying to take off my crimson colored glasses here and look at this objectively. I'm interested in the thoughts of anyone else will do try and be objective as well. I think firing Sampson and imposing sanctions would definitely reduce the penalty. The problem still would remain that IU hired a known cheater and he continued to cheat under their watch. It doesn't exactly set a great example for other programs if simply firing the guy once he gets caught and imposing a one scholarship reduction is sufficient to not receive further penalties. Because really, 1 scholarship is not significant since teams often don't have 13 guys on scholarship and only 9 or 10 guys typically play. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 09:08 PM) whitesoxfan99, I wasnt sure about that and didnt really look into it (thats why I ended with a "?"), thanks for the information and based on that id say that it almost has to be a current player. That is my thinking as well. Wouldn't make sense to cross out some HS players names while leaving others. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 08:55 PM) Interesting thought on the blacked out names. The other possibility could be a player who is still in HS? I dont know exactly. There are players still in HS who are listed in the report. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 08:04 PM) :hands that win to Illinois: Gordon got you guys on a bank shot and tonight Butch just got one for Wisconsin. Wow. That was awesome. Edit: DJ White has really stepped up his game this year. I didn't watch all of the 2nd half, was there a reason IU went away from him? -

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 07:05 PM) I got to thinking more about the whole Samscum thing. 1) IU's next coach should be Steve Lavin if they can get him away from ESPN. He was a good coach and a good recruiter who just happened to coach at UCLA with ridiculous expectations. He started in the Big Ten so he'd be a great addition. 2) If you step back and think about it, the NCAA is so jacked up. As much as I love the fact that Samscum is getting what he deserved for being a douche-bag, the fact is he made some stupid phone calls. Obviously the being unethical and lying is horrible and he should be fired, but this all came about over some phone calls. Ok, fair enough. How long has the Reggie Bush thing been going on? They pushed Samscums sanctions in like 6 months. Reggie Bush got tons of cash, probably the biggest no-no possible, and still nothing on that. Am I the only one that see's a problem with that? The reason Sampson and IU are in so much trouble over this is because Sampson had already gotten in trouble for the same thing. Of course a repeat offender is going to get in a lot of trouble when it is clear that their pattern of behavior is to blatantly ignore and break the rules that the NCAA sets forth. And the NCAA is even more upset and I would be as well that Sampson basically completely ignored the sanctions that they set up for him based on his last violation. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 08:47 PM) If we had a Purdue fan on this site im sure theyd be saying "hes going to be the next Larry Bird". He has just been insane lately, and Gordn outside of the game against NU hasnt scored over 20 since Penn State. I guess its a what have you done fore me lately. For all we know Gordon will torch Wisconsin tomorrow and hell take down Purdue, and itll be Hummel who? (Hummel is 6'8 and grew 9 inches from his soph to junior year i believe, its not unheard of that he could still add 1 inch and a few more pounds as he fills out. He is only 18, these are PROJECTIONS) He is a going to be a great college player. But 6'8 forwards who don't play in the post and don't have great athleticism are role players in the NBA. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 08:36 PM) Better where? Who will be the better pro, probably Gordon, although if Hummel got thicker could he project to a poor mans Nowitzki. As for college if Purdue wins the Big 10 this year and Gordon bolts, it will be hard to go against Hummel who could play another 3 years. I dont know projecting players are gut feelings, there is just no way you can say stats or anything else will determine who will be a great pro and who will bust out. Some times I look at Gordon and see a player that could be the next great thing, other times he just has this way about him that makes me doubt him. And thats why I premised this all on, if Hummel continues to play this way. He has been on fire, and more importantly he has played the best in Purdue's most important games. Hummel is only 6'7 or 6'8. That means going up against guys like LeBron, Kobe, T-Mac, etc. Hummel projects as maybe a guy like Mike Dunleavy at best. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 10:30 PM) Maybe I am the only one that sees it, but when watching that highlight, I saw the foul and had no problem with the call. The problem is, a human cannot react as quickly as tenths of seconds on a clock so the call comes in later. And if that's not enough, any team wearing those ugly assed pink uniforms, regardless of how good their cause is, SHOULD get screwed. UGH Two comments on the calls tonight. The ref who made the call in the Georgetown game should be ashamed of himself. First of all there is no chance G'Town gets a shot off there and there was little if any contact there. That isn't even a foul with 4 minutes left let alone .1 seconds. I've only seen the Tennessee game once but there was clearly a foul. However, it did look like the clock stopped before the foul actually occurred. Edit: Just saw it again. There is almost no doubt that the clock would have run out before the foul if it wouldn't have stopped with .2 seconds left. -

QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:08 PM) And I never stated that Indiana was a great team. We have many flaws that can hopefully be worked out. And Bassett and Crawford stepped up big tonight, lets hope that continues. Also I don't think ILL is as bad as their record, if they could hit a damn FT down the stretch they could easily be above .500. I'm just looking at the positives ok? What is going to kill IU is that their frontcourt outside of White is basically a joke. They have good guards and White is obviously a very good big man. THomas, Stemler, and Mike White are awful. -

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) Roy has never been a good defensive coach. He has not adjusted to the 3 point onslaught at all. UNC was actually a very good defensive team last year and was very good defensively in 04-05. -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 09:09 PM) What really pisses me off is for the next week, all we are going to hear about is how big of a douche Beilcheck is. Not that he doesn't have it coming, but I don't want to f***ing hear about it. I'm more annoyed we are going to have to hear about how nobody respected the Giants for the next month. Hell, it only took Plaxico Burress about 5 seconds after the game to bring it up.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 1, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) I would lean towards that, not only because elite players win championships but because not every elite player leaves after one year. I haven't kept track and don't feel like researching it now, but I would guess that generally like 4 freshmen tops are good enough to go pro. The freshman classes these last two years have just turned out to be absurdly good. Now that guys can't leave out of high school I would bet more than 4 will be going pro just about every year. -
QUOTE(Brian @ Feb 1, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) The Memphis Grizzlies have reportedly traded big man Pau Gasol to the Lakers for F/C Kwame Brown, G Javaris Crittenton and first-round picks in 2008 and 2010. Gasol's name had not come up much lately in trade talks, but this is big news for the Lakers, as he can play center until Andrew Bynum returns from a knee injury, then slide over to power forward. Darko Milicic, Stromile Swift, Hakim Warrick and even Juan Carlos Navarro should all see a boost in fantasy value for Memphis with this news. Gasol has missed three of his last four games with a back injury, but it must not be too serious if the Lakers were willing to trade for him. Although, getting rid of Kwame was probably intriguing to them, regardless of how Gasol's back is feeling. Feb. 1 - 2:36 pm et That trade is just awful for Memphis. Someone please explain how the Bulls could not top that deal?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 06:53 PM) I was actually having this debate the other day. Is it better for your program to stay away from the top talent guys that leave after a year and focus more on building and developing a system with a team instead of having to regroup every year because your lineup goes pro? I have specifically looked at my team of course, but I wonder about other programs. You want both. A perfect scenario is to have a mix of very good 3 and 4 year players while bringing in the top talent to supplement them. -
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 04:46 PM) It is pretty sad, but the best the current group they're throwing out there is going to do is tred water. With Deng and Gordon out they really don't have enough scorers. A part of me would actually rather just see the Bulls basically suck the rest of the way and lose as many games as possible with the strength of this years draft.

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) Tisdale, even with his stupid decisions, has a sweet 12-15 foot shot and really has good hands for a big man. I look forward to 2009-2011 when we're back on top of the league and competing for final four spots. It is conditioning with Tisdale. Once he gets stronger and more conditioned you won't see those type of plays. And he usually does have very good hands which is why I was shocked when he dropped a couple of passes yesterday. -

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 12:48 PM) i just think that you can not hide this team's offensive ineptitude over the course of a 40-minute game. we are not good offensively and eventually that will catch up to us. i think you can gameplan to get guys open looks and stuff like that, but the teams we are playing are just flat-out better and more talented. over 40 minutes that will show. I didn't want to quote this whole post but I agree with a lot of it. I also think the fact there is really no go to guy plays a role in the struggles at the end of games. No one wants to shoot it except for Pruitt and teams just double him and he makes awful decisions. -

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 11:31 PM) ESPN ran a poll of the nation asking Who would you rather be? Tiger Woods or Tom Brady? Woods whomped Brady. I, for one, can't understand it, and it has little to do with a Patriot bias. I just don't understand why people would rather be a Golfer -- even if the dude is the Picasso of Golf -- than a man with three Super Bowl rings, about to enter another, with the touchdown record just finished. Maybe I have a bias against Golf, as I imagine Woods would beat just about any athlete in this contest except Michael Jordan. Why? Because he's really good at Golf? Who would you rather be? Tiger Woods or Tom Seaver? Tiger Woods or Peyton Manning? Tiger Woods or...Lebron James? Tiger Woods or Greg Maddux? Tiger Woods or Wayne Gretzky? I just don't get it. And I don't think I ever will. Tiger Woods bank account>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Tom Brady's Both have ridiculously hot women so that wouldn't come into play. Might be more glory in football but golf is in many ways more challenging sport and being great at it could be more rewarding. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 26, 2008 -> 10:57 AM) Richmond is an amazing talent, he had 23 points and about 20 rebounds by my unofficial count. However, the team they were playing stinks, his teammates stink, and his attitude appears to stink. However, he's as hell of a talent and still only a sophomore, so in that respect I am very impressed. Have you gotten a chance to see Crandall Head yet? Because he is freaking amazing as well. Same type of talent as Richmond, maybe just a small notch below. -

QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 10:06 AM) Same thing they said in '05. that worked out pretty good for "blue heaven" I agree strides need to be made in that area as well as others for UNC, and Kansas is a very deserving #1 right now as the best in the land, but there are about 6-7 teams that can go with Kansas night in night out and win their share of games. The 05 Carolina team was significantly better on the defensive end than this years version. That years version was top 10 in defensive efficiency. This team isn't top 40.
