  1. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 11:26 PM) That sums up the game. I don't think the officiating was biased -- Duke is just better. Really, Duke's biggest advantage was quickness and the ability to penetrate. I'm a little surprised that McCamey and Alexander aren't better perimeter defenders. On the up side, there's some hope they can improve. I think UI chances of making the tournament hinge on Brock, McCamey, and Alexander. If they can step up and provide perimeter defense and some outside shooting I think UI has a decent chance to make the tournament. Duke absolutely is better. Never said otherwise and officiating had nothing to do with the outcome of the game. But officiating in Duke games is nearly always biased towards Duke. Just one of the things you have to expect when you play them. They flop constantly and the officials always buy it (Scheyer's flop comes to mind tonight), they are allowed to handcheck away from the basket in ways no other team is allowed. Would not have made a difference tonight but I have seen refs come to Duke's rescue far too many times.
  2. Terrible call against Singler for his 5th there. I freaking hate when refs call games like this.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 10:20 PM) Best player on the court tonight has been Henderson. I've also been impressed with Nelson's offense and defense. I don't think Henderson missed a shot tonight.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) How many jump shots has Illinois actually made tonight? Can't be more than 5. Brock has made a few. Tisdale made a few and Randle made a couple. Not having a 2 guard is going to kill us against teams like Duke all year. Jamar killed the team with his stupidity last year.
  5. That call on Frazier right there was terrible. These refs have sucked both ways. No flow to the game at all.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 10:12 PM) Pruitt is a terrible help defender....it's probably the thing that Augustine did the best that no one appreciated. Yep, and it is actually something the freshman big men have shown some ability to do.
  7. McCamey has really played poorly tonight. Always a problem relying on freshman PGs this much (unless they are Derrick Rose).
  8. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 09:53 PM) I will pay to see a Duke player or two get knocked out in this chippy play. I was half hoping to see Frazier beat the s*** out of Singler
  9. You have to love refs who can't possibly see the play calling falls.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 09:23 PM) It's been called the whole game though, you need to be smarter than that. I've always believed Randle's one of the dumbest players I've ever seen on the basketball court. Nice stretch for the Illini over the last 2 minutes, as they actually got the benefit on some calls from the refs. It has been called only on Illinois though. Largely because we don't drive that much, but also because Duke has always been allowed to use their hands and bump perimeter players no matter who they play.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) Weber must have been watching a different Randle than I have during his Illini career. You can't leave him in there with 2 fouls in the 1st half. Illinois just has such a glaring weakness at shooting guard. They're solid at every other possession. The game plan from the get-go should have been going down low to Pruitt. Agreed, I think it was more situational than anything though. And that 3rd call was a f***ing joke as well.
  12. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 09:06 PM) Paulus just has one of those faces that you want to hit with something blunt. I'm also surprised that UofI fans don't seem to be as excited for this game as I thought they'd be. Is all focus on the football team for now? EDIT: I was going to add that Duke is getting the usual 'kid gloves' treatment from the refs, but I see it's already been mentioned. Two cheap fouls on Randle. Shocking.
  13. This is going to sound like complaining about tonight's game but it really is just complaining about calls in Duke games in general. I still don't understand how any time a Duke player gets bumped or touch it is a foul, but Duke is allowed to use their hands constantly on defense.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 06:33 PM) Dwight Freeney could be out for the season. It is official. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3110140
  15. Hell no on Linebrink. He isn't good and we have to give up a draft choice? No thanks.
  16. St. Joes just missed a breakaway layup attempt that would have tied the game against Syracuse.
  17. Chargers got away with a pretty clear pass interference on that last pass. Could end up being the biggest play in the game.
  18. What an unbelievable win. Juice was terrific as was the defense and the receivers actually caught the ball for the most part. And man did Tressel f' up big time today. The TO when we were punting was awful. With our terrible punting game and the fact we were punting from about the 30, the worst case scenario is you get the ball at your own 30. And not calling a TO on Dufrene's fumble early in the game was just terrible as well. Since it wasn't even a close call.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) What's this about? Where are you seeing rumors? Was about to ask the same thing? I usually have some idea when something is about to go down.
  20. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 09:07 PM) I'm loving where this season's going. Agreed. I wasn't a huge fan of the premiere but the season seems to be getting stronger and I loved tonight's episode.
  21. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 06:10 PM) So will the Bears target a replacement for Brown in FA or the draft? They need to get younger on that offensive line no doubt. The Bears need replacements at every single position on offense except for TE.
  22. I'm not going to place the Big 10 teams in order, but I think IU and MSU are the top 2 (despite MSU's terrible exhibition play) and then OSU, Illinois, and Wisconsin are the other tourney teams and could finish anywhere from 3-5. Purdue has some nice freshmen, but return basically nothing, Michigan will be bad, PSU will pick off a couple of the good big ten teams but simply doesn't have the talent to do more than that. Minny, NW, and Iowa will all be freaking terrible.
  23. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 11:00 PM) So, Findlay won 70-68 at Ohio State, and led basically all game. WTF is up with Big 10 athletic powerhouses losing to non DI teams?? Oh, and Memphis pulled away 80-63 over Richmond. Derrick Rose had 21 points and 5 rebounds on 6-8 from the field (2-4 from 3), and 7-10 from the line, with 2 blocks, 2 steals, and 1 assist. Illinois won their 2nd and final exhibition, 76-39 over Kentucky Wesleyan. Brian Carlwell REALLY needs to be redshirted is one thing I took out of this, and Chris Hicks even had 7 points and hit a couple 3's. I'm not really sure what to take out of this game besides that, except there are tough redshirt decisions to make, Meacham and Randle looked good tonight, and Pruitt and Brock both got their first minutes and looked good. I wouldn't redshirt Carlwell. I would rather have that scholarship available for 2010. Play him and hope he comes around, if he doesn't you don't want to tie up a scholarship for 5 years.
  24. I actually think the chances are pretty good that the Patriots go 16-0 after today. And a 4th round draft choice for Randy Moss has to be considered one of the best trades in recent years.
