Wasn't he mysteriously not showing up due to "family issues" and then they DFA'd him? Sounds like they knew. I'm guessing when they traded him for cash considerations, they disclosed what they knew to Philly.

Lol. I'm sure all the posters that flipped out for 2 months when they got rid of him will calmly admit they didn't know the full story and that they overreacted.

I mean we traded a bullpen arm that hasn't thrown a pitch this season and got a bullpen arm, a minor league OFer, and the draft pick. I think that's pretty solid.

Are we completely writing Fletcher off already? He had about 100 ABs last year and batted .300/.350/.440. This year he has 78 ABs and batting .171/.247/.229.

Even if he's a complete dope and they hate him and don't want him near the team, just keeping him on the roster and refusing to use him is a strange choice. You'd think the options would be 1. play him 2. trade him 3. drop him.

Its bizarre. Is it his attitude? Is it baseball related? Why don't they just trade him? He has to have some trade value, right?

Lol... I think he's exaggerating? For a while, their horrible start was a big story with national baseball media. Pierzynski's podcast and Jomboy type of outlets did devote a lot of time to them. Not sure about the media aspect and I'm not an expert on player development but I think there could be an argument made that Dominic Fletcher having a bad start on a new team that is off to a historically bad start not being a great environment for him.

The panic discussion began with him saying he would be ok with a roster full of placeholders or a roster full of struggling kids (not both). He said Getz was losing prospects on the roster and then provided a list of a handful of 26-29 year old minor leaguers who were supposedly dropped or traded. When it was pointed out that one of them was still with the organization and Brad Keller was the same age as those "prospects," he said I was missing the point by looking at the specific names he provided. Doesn't seem like anyone is going to be persuaded here.

I don't think it does. But just because they disappointed me the last couple years, I'm not going to pretend it takes 5 years to build a team as good as the Detroit Tigers when they have like 65 million dollars coming off the books.

It means that I don't think there's any reason for a team in a major market to not be able to field a .500 team after losing for 3-4 years, millions of dollars coming off the books, only one bad long term contract, and an influx of talent coming up. That isn't some insane expectation. Rick Hahn couldn't find a RF or a 2B and spent all his payroll on bullpen arms. He's gone. That doesn't mean that the Sox will (or should) operate like that for the rest of time. I'm not predicting they will sign Juan Soto... but that doesn't mean I'm going to pretend that there's no way for them to become an average team in a couple of years.

I think some for some people, they define "competitive" differently and that's the disconnect. I think others just have a humiliation/complaining kink and they get off on losing and pouting about losing. I used to think Sox fans had a lot in common with NYC baseball fans because I thought they demanded a lot from the team. This new post-twitter breed of Sox fan just likes to whine. You'd think the reaction to the team would be "Go out and get some bats!" but instead its sad guys claiming its impossible to find a second baseman.
