  1. Where was his criticism? Here's what he wrote: "1. Because of his agent. He's hitting the open market eventually and will not be giving the Sox a "discount" especially if he is pitching well. You trade him when he still has a few years on his contract to help maximize the return. " That's reality. That's not a criticism. I myself wonder when we will see the guy who is going to demand a nine figure deal. He's been a solid MOR starter but nothing that would command nine figures.
  2. He will most likely be in a Cubs uniform next year, unfortunately.
  3. Mark McGwire never won an MVP.
  4. It just makes them tough minded. I'm not the one that said Anderson had a bad season due to the loss of a friend. I don't think even Anderson said that. I think people here made up the excuse that Anderson had a bad season due to the loss of a friend, as though they had intimate knowledge of Anderson's psyche.
  5. Not suggesting anything other than the assumption that the 2020s will be a decade of dominance couldn't be more far fetched. The casual Chicago fan has probably been lost forever and even if the White Sox rebuild is a success it will be the Chicago Bulls or Indiana Pacers to the Yankees LeBron James teams. Decent teams that just won't have what it takes to compete with the big boys, unfortunately.
  6. Didn't John Lester pitch a shutout on the day his uncle died? And there were at least two gold medalists in the Pyeongchang Olympics that dedicated their medal to their recently deceased parents no less. Those are some tough minded athletes.
  7. That's the excuse provided for him having a horrible 2017 season. I didn't provide the excuse for the terrible season. I assumed it was because he wasn't very good.
  8. Don't you have to get past them to get to the World Series? I thought there was a dynasty being planned.
  9. I sure hope Jimenez and Garcia and Moncada are better than Judge and Stanton and Machado (or whoever the Yankees sign) by 2020.
  10. Are you counting on the Yankees and Red Sox and Astros forgetting how to play by 2020?
  11. I wonder how many casual fans they will lose with all this losing. Do you think the Yankees will be firing Stanton and Judge and the rest of the team in 2020?
  12. That's what worries me about the guy who was crying after the manager pulled him for not hustling. I'm also worried what will happen to the shortstop if somebody close to him passes away if they become good again. We already saw his horrific 2017 season explained away by a death to a loved one. Seems that this team is full of weak minded players.
  13. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 11:13 AM) Again you're using a straw man argument against me. I'm not talking about his exit velocity. It is an objective fact that his xwOBA suggests he has been extremely unlucky so far. That even factors in his strikeout rate. Entering yesterday his xwOBA was at .384, a very respectable number. His actual wOBA was at .294 (so I mistyped earlier, it's actually a .09 discrepancy). If you're really gonna disregard that, that's your prerogative, but it's literally inarguable. FWIW, expected weighted on-base average (xwOBA) is formulated using exit velocity and launch angle, two metrics measured by Statcast. So if you are talking about xwOBA you are, by definition, talking about exit velocity, albeit indirectly.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 09:17 AM) Kyle Schwarber had to reset down in Iowa last year, should Theo be fired? Baseball is a hard game and sometimes you need to put players in a position to succeed to help overcome mental, physical, or mechanical hurdles. I’m not suggesting that will be necessary for Yoan, but it’s a real option to consider if he’s still striking out over 40% or the time a month from now. Theo Epstein has a track record of winning. Rick Hahn has a six year track record of losing. Not a good comparison.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 09:14 AM) How come no one is freaking out about Giolito? He's pretty much sucked. You're on the wrong site. Go over to White Sox Interactive or The SCORE's message boards and you'll see plenty of people freaking out about how Giolito has sucked.
  16. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 09:52 AM) Buster Posey? Madison Bumgarner? Tim Lincecum won 2 Cy Youngs as well. Lincecum was a bum pitching in relief by the time they won their second World Series. Before that he was a star. Again, Bumgarner was a World Series hero but was no star in the regular season. No more so than Mark Buehrle.
  17. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 09:12 AM) Bumgarner had the best pitching performance I have ever seen in a World Series. He is still on the right side of 30 as well and has a legit shot at the HOF if he pitches well enough for another 10 years. He needs to win a Cy Young or come relatively close. He hasn't come relatively close. He also can't have too many more 17 game seasons. He's also on the disabled list to start this season. Could be minor setbacks but guys like this do breakdown early.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 07:42 AM) They had a pitcher who was definitely a star, and a HOFer behind the plate. I'm not sure about that. He's been on fewer all-star teams than Mark Buehrle and is showing signs of breaking down. He excelled in the post-season but he only finished as high as fourth in Cy Young voting. Buehrle finished fifth. He is not much more of a star than Mark Buehrle. According to Baseball Reference Hall of Fame Statistics Posey isn't Hall of Fame (yet). It's still towards the middle/end of his career and he's on the wrong side of 30. He's Paul Konerko.
  19. QUOTE (Special K @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 09:30 PM) As a very brief aside, is the ‘05 team the last World Series team to win a championship without a bona fide star? The Giants won three without a bona fide star.
  20. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 7, 2018 -> 01:00 AM) I'm usually one of the most pessimistic posters here. Jack Parkman's law says Murphy was an optimist. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 12:17 AM) If everything goes right, he [Giolito] could be one of the best RHP in baseball. Think Kluber or Verlander.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 12:34 PM) It's rebuilding correctly which this organization has never done before Jack McDowell and Robin Ventura and Frank Thomas and Alex Fernandez and Jason Bere beg to differ.
  22. QUOTE (balfanman @ Feb 19, 2018 -> 03:16 PM) I'm so sorry that I offended you and others here. I've enjoyed coming here for years to learn about and ask questions of knowledgeable fellow White Sox fans. But apparently I'm much to stupid to hang with you folks so I guess I'll leave so as not to make the site any dumber. Let that be a lesson to you. Having any doubts about Moncada is tantamount to blasphemy. And he's no longer even the crown jewel. Wait till the first time you post "Jimenez's 0-4, 3 strikeout night was less than ideal" or "I'm no expert but I don't think 8 walks from Kopech is to be desired". Whoa Nelly the reaction to that will dwarf the outrage at just mildly expressing your thoughts about Moncada.
  23. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Feb 19, 2018 -> 12:33 PM) This thread is dumb and thread starter should feel dumb for starting it. If the thread is dumb why comment on it? Why make multiple comments on such a dumb thread? Why make it all the way to the second and third page if it's so dumb? Couldn't you just read the first comment, consider it dumb and move along?
  24. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Feb 19, 2018 -> 08:01 AM) One of the reasons I like SoxTalk over the other White Sox sites is because fans can be very open expressing their opinions. White Sox Interactive has banned a number of people I know for making comments that their administrators considered offensive. I was banned their recently for a week because they they didn't like my comments about Hahn and the White Sox organization. Even tho they lifted my ban I don't think I will post there anymore. This. Also it's great to see that there's been plenty of activity on this site all winter long and you can hear the crickets as all they do are their stupid polls at White Sox Interactive.
