  1. Wasn’t this supposed to be the strength coming into the season? I tuned out most of the offseason but I thought that was what was expected, good offense and no pitching.
  2. I remember I used to frequent JayTheJoke.com around 20 years ago. A bunch of people that hated, with good reason, Jay Mariotti.
  3. The bar for retiring numbers around here is pretty low.
  4. I think it’s certainly safe for some to rule out wild card flirtation.
  5. I mean the two year contract will be up long before Ishbia takes over. I don’t think he’s as involved as people hope.
  6. A 2 year, $34 million deal, making less than Benitendi and less than 5% of Ohtani, is not proof that he is not cheap. The point still stands.
  7. No it does not. Which is why it has been on ignore for the last year. I would highly recommend others do the same.
  8. Wonder if he'll pull a reverse John Elway and declare for the NFL draft.
  9. It’s not being done in a vacuum. He’s not the first Royals hire.
  10. It seems that it should be more than a commitment to winning. There is that lingering survey from last year rating them in the basement of organizations league wide. When a new owner comes in he will have to fire everyone and fix things from the ground up. I think players place a premium on a satisfactory experience more so than just winning. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6406636/2025/06/11/best-worst-mlb-manager-2025-player-poll/
  11. You have to pay an extra premium to get players to sign with the White Sox. It’s not just “offer the most money” anymore. It’s “offer the most money plus x%”. I’m not sure that will ever allow multiple good signings.
  12. My friend who follows the NBA closely says they have opened with a few doormats. The next handful of games will apparently be a better test.
  13. Not necessarily bad signings just not evidence of Reinsdorf being a big spender to sign him to a relatively short term deal, which I believe is still the one of the largest contracts in team history. Has Reinsdorf ever signed an 8 year contract with anybody? I'm not aware of even any 6 year contracts.
  14. Spending money on short term contracts that get you out from under them quickly is not really spending money. It’s smoke and mirrors. A parlor trick and unhealthy candy for the fans. A Harper signing would have been a healthy signing. A Grandal and Benitendi and Belle signing are silliness.
  15. I wonder if there would be anyone around to care in three years. IF they were good in three years. The odds are still against them competing in three years, but IF they do will anybody care?
  16. They finished tied for 22nd in the second half. Not really that decent. https://champsorchumps.us/summary/mlb/2025/after-all-star-break
  17. I don’t think they wouldn’t have won with Ordonez and Lee.
  18. At least someone spending for the sake of spending would be a step in the right direction. We built them a stadium for 35 freaking years. The least they can do is spend for the sake of spending. I don’t care if Reinsdorf’s pockets are slightly lighter.
  19. Isn’t that a summary of what Ray Ray said?
  20. In a couple years they will sign a $100 million contract and use it as evidence they’re not what we said they were, all while everyone else in the league has signed $200 million contracts. They will always be 10+ years behind.
  21. Yeah, and those contracts were quickly dwarfed by today’s standards. It always made sense at that time to be a serious business in a big city. AJ and Harper were obvious hires and Machado right behind. Instead they went the clown show route.
  22. Isn’t Getz part of the argument in favor of Reinsdorf being the worst owner? A guy who failed upwards in Reinsdorf’s organization.
  23. This. It’s endlessly amusing to see “they’re going to start using analytics”. Great, they finally got around to seeing Moneyball 15 years too late. Do something useful, not something that brings you within 10 years of what everyone else is already doing.
