You're not reading the responses here, are you? Everyone is generally correct. No 50 win team is paying $300 million to anyone (Especially a team that has never given out a $100 million contract). This team is not good and if you put stock in their prospects why give them up for a guy who would get you from 50 to 53 wins?
-
Even if you gave Getz the benefit of the doubt, contending before then would require Cleveland, Detroit, and Minnesota to all forget what they generally do pretty well. All these three are not going to collapse. They have good organizations, something you would think Chicago would have after 45 years of uninterrupted ownership.

You know the sports business is different now than it was 50 years ago, don't you?
-
And still finished in fifth place.

He’s not the new owner until at least 2029. That doesn’t mean he will be a great owner once he does take control. There are plenty of bad owners.

I’m not sure if we are being trolled. I hope that’s the case.

Sox trade Andrew Vaughn to acquire Aaron Civale
FloydBannister1983 replied to WestEddy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Who was in charge of player development while all these draft picks were failing? They should be fired and never work in baseball ever again! -
Will they have a new GM before 2027?

Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.

Nah, it happened before that, when they failed to/didn’t intend to sign Harper. LaRussa was just the undertaker putting the nails in the coffin. -
They are even closer to last year than we thought.

No. At least someone could tell their sons some day, “Son I witnessed the worst team of all time up close. They were terrible but they had some sort of charm blah blah blah.” Sox can’t even lose historically right. The one thing they had is going to be obliterated this season.
-
Yeah, they’re 2-14 against AL Central. There’s not much lower you can go when you’re already at the bottom of the barrel. Maybe they get blown out more.

Could the Sox rebrand as lovable losers?
FloydBannister1983 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox won’t even get to retain the worst team label that could somehow be embraced. The Rockies are going to smash their record this season. -
Yet the Sox still have not cracked that $100 million force field and probably won’t anytime soon.
-
The Harper debacle was the end of this franchise as even pretending to be a serious franchise.

Getz just has that stupid face that invites memes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone else like it.

“a lot better” is some wild optimism. I would bet now that they lose 100 games next year too. Maybe a ten game improvement.

I'm more upset about 2011. Opening day Dunn hit a home run and had a big game and my dad was pretty happy and we were looking forward to a fun season. He died the next day. I guess I'm glad he saw the high point. They were still in it late in the season. I'm not sure Ozzie didn't throw the season. I remember him pinch hitting Dunn, a guy batting like .160, in an important game against the Tigers. Everyone knew having the bat boy pinch hit would have been a better option. Dunn whiffed on three pitches. (To his credit he didn't quit and had a decent rebound season in 2012 and was even an all star.)

Considering that Roberts is negative WAR with a .542 OPS one sixth of the way through the season trading him may be addition by subtraction.
-
Of course Thome put up 12.1 WAR with the White Sox from 2006-2009 (3.5 seasons). Rowand, who was down to about 100 games in 2010-2011, put up a 8.1 WAR from 2006-2009 (six seasons). Rowand had a whopping 1.1 WAR in the two remaining seasons he played after Thome departed the White Sox.
-
Yes high profile losses, but if the pitchers don’t allow 150 earned runs more than the prior year those losses don’t matter. They got 3.7 WAR from Rowand/Everett in 2005. They got 5.3 from Thome/Anderson/Mackowiac in 2006. The trade was a winner.
-
That’s a funny thing considering Brian Anderson played all but 28 games in CF that year and Mackowiak probably didn’t cost them all 28 games he was as there. Thome was an all star that year. That trade didn’t hurt them.
-
They scored 127 more runs in 2006 than in 2005. They didn’t lose because Aaron Rowand (who loved ripping the fans) was traded. Their pitching failed them.

The closer had a storyline in the movie.
