  1. There is no window of contention if you are basically out of it two weeks into the season after losing a couple of guys who should have been expected to get injured.
  2. You’ve got your bases covered. The Sox get credit for the guys that got away and also they, not the Cubs or Red Sox, get credit for Cease and Moncada. Do you play “heads I win tails you lose” very often?
  3. Who will trade a bucket of balls for a guy who can’t stay healthy? They are stuck with him.
  4. Simple. .435 in the WBC does not affect his MLB season one bit. An injury may very well affect part of the season.
  5. It would be a hiccup if it didn’t happen every year. Treating the fans with gratitude would be the hiccup for this organization.
  6. Yes I remember that one and he missed a significant chunk of that season. I thought there was a second one in the minors as well. Could be his rookie year I’m thinking of.
  7. Wasn’t he hurt a number of times while in the minor leagues?
  8. Especially when they forced you to endure years of tanking to get to this point and the statements and actions (or lack thereof) of this clown show front office.
  9. Neither Seattle nor Tampa Bay were better teams in 2000 or 2008. But even if we agree these two teams were far superior and unceremoniously booted the Sox from the playoffs in these years the point is that Cleveland has been in the postseason far more than Jerry’s Sox. He should be embarrassed.
  10. Cleveland has been better than the Sox, far better, for the last thirty years. They’ve had three World Series appearances. Lost in the ALCS twice. Lost in the ALDS six times. It’s fairly close to perennial. The Sox have 2000, 2005, 2008, 2021. Three of those were embarrassing exits.
  11. Also I remember LaMarr Hoyt and Jack McDowell regressing after their Cy Young years, Loaiza falling apart after his All Star season. I’m not sold that there will be no regression from Cease.
  12. You can’t be a traditionalist if you hate many of the ways the game has changed? I would rather the game end in a tie.
  13. Nothing too wrong with calling a game a tie.
  14. But the Cubs having a guy charge Randy Myers or their drunken fans starting a fight with the Dodgers bullpen has been memory-holed.
  15. The playoffs did not exist twenty years before Reinsdorf bought the team. The Tampa Bay Rays didn’t exist until 17 years after he bought the team. They’ve won more playoff games than Reinsdorf.
  16. Strangely there is a significant dip in years the Sox were in the postseason. 1983, 1993, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2021 (compared to the previous full season, 2019).
  17. The Central since the turn of the century is the West’s equal and that’s just because of the Astros recent success. Before that the West just had the Angels in 2002 and the Rangers twice while the Central had the Sox, Tigers twice, Indians once (and a 2007 choke job from being twice) and Royals twice. Cleveland almost knocked off the Yankees this year. Detroit has had some strong years when they did not make the World Series. They are not an historic joke. Maybe just the last couple of years.
  18. 2006? Edit: I now see you wrote 94 wins within two years of the title.
  19. Wasn’t Clemens great before he cheated? He won three Cy Young’s and an MVP by 1990.
  20. He learned from KW who always gets his guy.
  21. I believe Abreu said this very thing towards the end of the season. Something along the lines of “These guys don’t listen “.
  22. At least he was able to sign Tatis at one point. I’m sure Shields was worth it.
  23. Too bad Himes didn’t have Hahn’s leash. He acquired Thomas, Ventura, McDowell, Fernandez, Álvarez, Johnson, Bere. That team probably would have won the World Series in 1994 if it weren’t for the their owner sabotaging the season.
  24. Ed Farmer was a great guy who gave this kid a phone call during his All Star season 40 years ago. They don’t make them like him anymore.
