September 29, 20178 yr How is this for a time to revisit the deal that had been discussed both with the Pirates and then with the Pirates and Yankees involved McCutcheon. Tyler Glasnow is having another horrible run in the majors. 44 walks in 62 innings and an era in the Dylan Covey range. Kevin Newman put up a pretty mediocre year splitting time between AA and AAA putting up a combined line of .267/.311/.363/.675. Even Austin Meadows who we really wanted, but wasn't ever supposedly available put up a mediocre year. Mitch Keller was the only guy connected to the deal who really put up a good year for the Pirates this year. I know people have focused on the Astros for ire, but did anyone sacrifice more and get less than the Pirates turning down the offers for Quintana?

They might regret it, but even with Quintana the Pirates weren't a serious playoff contender. There's also plenty of time for these guys to rebound - Glasnow might be better suited for the bullpen though.

Even if they do, I get the feeling taking Eloy, Cease, and the trash in the rest of the deal with the Cubs will outweigh the Pirates deal of Glasnow, Keller, Newman, etc by a mile.
September 29, 20178 yr Just glad the Sox passed on any deal be headlined by Glasnow. He needs alot of work to be a good MLB starter.

For sure. Unless Meadows was in the Pirates deal and hit .350 this year like Jimenez did they wouldn't be able to come close to what the Cubs offered.
September 29, 20178 yr Jimenez was one of my favorite prospects so I'm glad it worked out the way it did. But, I'm not writing off these guys yet as failed. Glasnow definitely looks like he may be a BP piece, however.
September 29, 20178 yr Never did like the idea of trading with Pitt when the rumors of Bell and Meadows being off the table came out. At the time I was fine with Glasnow ( oops, wrong) and really liked Keller but had no interest in Newman. In the end it worked out best for both teams but I like the idea of revisiting the trade proposals.

He's a Coop tweak away from being a very special pitcher. If there was a way to acquire a guy like that this offseason I would explore - that being said we really don't have what the Bucs are looking for. Garcia wouldn't net that and they don't need a player like him. Just saying I think he'll be a very talented MLB pitcher
October 2, 20178 yr QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 07:32 PM) Eloy all the way. Muck the Astros and muck the Pirates. Yep. The Q trade with the cubs has eased my irritation with the Astros and the 6+ month long square dance of rumors. I give credit to the Astros for holding out to keep their most cherished prospects while eventually getting the front line starter they had been seeking. In fact, I appreciate the course they took because it helped the Sox land Eloy whom I would take over any Astros prospect. In the end it worked out best for both teams.

The Astros teased the White Sox (and by extension, us) for months, only to bail the Tigers out of Verlander's contract. I know it worked out better for both teams, and Eloy is better than anything the Astros had to offer, but I still don't like what the Astros did, especially bailing the Tigers out.

Jimenez has all the looks of a future stud for us.

I think we also fell prey to the media pumping the rumors too. Even Hahn had said there was a team not as interested in Q as what was being reported which to me was a reference to the Astros. It's possible the Astros merely kicked the tires but the media ran with it because the Astros were a great fit for a Q trade.
