Cease with a strong 1st. Three batters faced, three outs. 2 K’s & 9/12 pitches for strikes

Also, no Rutherford or Sheets in the lineup for game 1.

Both @SoxMachine and @jnorris427 are live watching Dylan Cease's start right now, so follow both for reports.

2nd inning;

1-2-3. First batter he left a curveball up a bit, fly ball to LF. Struck out the 2nd two

Cease now with 4 K’s through 2 innings (3 swinging) with 17/25 pitches for strikes!

Didn’t realize how few pro innings Cease has. Hope he can make 26 starts this year.

Another 1-2-3 inning for Cease.

Strikeout Looking on a fastball- Short pop up to RF- Strike out on curve in the dirt

Promote him!

Nice control numbers for John Parke last year. Can never have too many lefties.

4th Inning:

Ground out to SS- Line out to 3B- Single up the middle (on curve)- Strikeout on a fastball swinging

Collins sac fly

Defense and wildness killing Cease

Still a very promising start, but this 5th inning implosion will mask that to some extent.

That's all on the defense. Cease got the double play ball to get out of that inning unscathed, but Yeyson choked. Then he had an out at the plate, but the catcher dropped the ball. Just like last year, the stats don't tell the story with Cease. He looked very good

I watched the start against the Mariners in spring training, and my first impression was he will be a very good reliever— like David Robertson. Not that they should do that (they shouldn’t). But he’s going to be a good big league pitcher someday.

Luis Gonzalez with his first HR of the season.

Good, looks like the scorer may knock Cease down to 1 ER, as it should be

Not so sure he's not a big league closer right now

The change would be after the game probably

It just is annoying that the defense once again is preventing him from going deeper into games. The same thing happened for most of his Kannapolis starts last year.

Eh.. well that and pitch count. Sox are still being careful with him to start.

Does anyone know his final pitch count and/or his pitch count when he started getting wild?
