McClure with a pretty rough outing.

Kanny up 1 in the 8th

I've been saying it a long time and not sure why isn't it happening. Free. Carlos. Perez. Looks like he's finally developing some game power too.

They have three catchers in Kanny for some reason or another. Having watched them, my feeling is that Perez should probably move up to W-S. Mercedes is just a beer league softball player there anyway. Zavala should maybe go to AAA sometime in May or June, send Yermin up to be Collins' backup/platoon in AA, Nolan and Perez pair off in Winston-Salem. Allows Skoug and Hickman to play more, and they need more development too.

I have a feeling Zavala may be out back-up catcher next year if he keeps up hitting like this. Very much looking forward to seeing him as a September Call-up.

I thought they have converted Hickman to 1B toward the end of last year, I guess they changed their mind again. Out of everyone in the minors, Perez might be the most likely to stay at catcher, so I'm in favor of giving him more PT.

Rutherford 2/2, RBI, .361

Basabe at 338, Adolfo at 329, Sheets at 290

Call and Fisher (AA) not exactly distinguishing themselves from the crowd.

Dunning facing Erceg tonight. That’s awesome.

Basabe homer.

Nice defense, Flete.

Sloppy defense tonight

Can’t complain about Dunning’s line so far. Pitched over bad defense last inning, and his pitch count is still ok -78 after 5 inn.

Need to say adios to Keon Barnum soon...

Yeah defense was horrendous. The catching defense for Birm is not good

Matt Rose at 3b. Is that new?

Only 23.

Big bats in Birmingham getting it done tonight:

Zavala 1-2, HR, BB

Jimenez 2-4, Double, RBi

Collins 1-3, with a run and K

Rose huge night 3-4, 4 RBI, 2 HR

Zavala is the real fucking deal with the bat.  If he can stick at catcher, we may have something special here.

Hopefully these last three days for Collins are the beginning of a breakout.

I thought he had always been at third.

He is probably the most interesting prospect to me outside of the big names.

Has played it on and off, but this year is the first for him where it's his main position. If he can defend there, that substantially raises his stock.

He did play a lot of 1B this year, but he also told me recently he played only catcher in Spring Training, and now in Kanny he's mixing it up. He doesn't know what their plan is with that, he's just going with it.
