April 29, 20196 yr Why do the OBP/K rate posts never take into account that Robert doesn't need to try and draw walks in WS? He is destroying the fucking baseball. He is way too advanced for the pitching he is seeing.

April 29, 20196 yr Does Yermin Mercedes have a chance to be the Sox future catcher? Pretty nice season so far .438 .481 .625 1.106.

He is way too advanced for the pitching he is seeing. It’s baffling. We should be celebrating the high babip and lack of walks. Every last one of us. It’s the same misguided thinking that bashes Madrigal’s current and future OPS. OPS is 100% going to be a useless statistic to measure Madrigal’s impact. For all the people that say “a hit is the same as a walk, just get on base etc.”, Madrigal is going to open their mouths and fill them with piss as they cheer for him.
April 29, 20196 yr Meanwhile, Taylor Varnell turns in another good start. Now he's got a 1.93 ERA, .079 WHIP, 33 strikeouts and 5 walks in 28 innings pitched. He's old for Low A, but he's killing it so far.

He’s been nothing short of dominant this season and Winston Salem isn’t exactly filled to the brim with guys blocking him at the moment.

Similar number of passed balls compared to Collins last year while controlling the running game better. I'd sure hope he's not also super bad at the receiving and game calling aspects of the job because our young pitchers probably deserve to have us preferring glove-first catchers when we use minor league veterans to fill out the rosters.
