    have a good evening.

  • Tim is a fun dude who was having fun in this interview, don't take anything he says here too seriously. He's the best.

Walks are not really an approach thing and it actually is good not trying to walk.

In the 2000s many teams tried to teach patience and going deep into the count and it failed.

Now we know walks have nothing to do with patience. No player above little league tries to chase balls and even many little league coaches tell their kids to wait for a fat one with less than two strikes, this is nothing advanced.

It is all about pitch recognition, a player has to decide about halfway home to swing so it is about extrapolating the pitch flight. TA doesn't  not walk because of his approach but because but because he is bad at extrapolating pitch flight.

It absolutely makes no sense to change his approach, he knows it is better to hit fat pitches. What you would need to do is change his pitch recognition. There are electronic systems for this (pitch is shown on a screen and blacks out halfway home and then you need to say pitch type and ball or strike ) but this is in an infant stage and success of it is still unclear. Can't hurt to try it though.

What did he say that was so wrong?

Btw telling a bad pitch recognition thing to be more patient is the worst thing you can do, bad pitch recognition guys need to swing more to get the zone swing minus outside zone swing gap as large as possible. If you tell a bad eye hitter to be patient he will take just as many meatballs as balls. The cubs tried that with baez and it failed and he got better when he decided to swing more.

Of course good plate disciple is better but only if actual pitch recognition gets better.

personally it really doesn't bother me but Steve was, like a lot of white boomers, trying to universalize his experience as as white boomer across races and generations.  TA basically told him to wake the hell up, in so many words.

Baseball is an expensive sport to play - you need someone to pay for cleats, a glove, a bat. You can get them all used for cheaper, but that shit adds up – and that's the bare minimum.

Yup.  It does.  TA does great work with underprivileged kids to offset the finances so they can play.  When he speaks on this I think we should listen.  TA speaks from experience.

White boomers?  There are also poor white kids that can’t afford to play baseball.

The problem with affording gear is an issue in Latin America. For underprivileged youth in our country, the problem is their schools and local rec centers don't pay for, support, or encourage playing baseball and hockey. Also, you can enjoy football and basketball with 2 to 6 people. With baseball, it isn't fun unless you can get at least 12 players together, which is why rec centers and schools are so important.

Miguel Sano was on there though. So it had that going for it.

Was actually cool to see him so relaxed in an interview for once

Tim strikes me as a high caliber individual on an off the field.  Actually...the whole team comes across as a class act.  Going to be easy to pull for all of them.

Ya'll slacking.

"Thats something the pitcher need to work on. He gotta work on how to control his feelings." Best line of the interview by far. F*ck pitchers and f*ck verlander especially.

Steve played with players of color at tremendous sacrifice and also helped the 1977ers become known as the Hitmen. Just the way he rolls.

Stone said nothing wrong. He said the game teaches life lessons and Anderson just added that there could be a ton of black kids who can play it at a high level if given the financial resources.

Not sure if this has been discussed but TA started a YouTube channel  and seems to be committed to uploading behind the scenes stuff regularly

He's got 4 videos up. Some real live footage of getting work in at spring training. It's pretty cool to see that. I recommend at least checking it out. Will be itneresting to see what kind of videos come up when the season starts.

Good Lord.

Kid's texting, you tubing, and driving.

Someone intervene before he's on the DL because a car accident.

Lol I thought the same thing about texting and driving.

His day before camp video he points out Abreus leadership individually. Found that interesting.

Yeah...I thought the same thing. The most recent video has some good footage of spring training though.
