Congrats to America and fuck Trump!!

  • Greg - I swear if you call him sleepy joe again.... What a speech!!! Well done Joe...well done!!! I’m fired up - thank god - let’s get to healing and unifying us as a country!!!!

  • If you watched Biden and still feel Trump is a better choice, I have nothing to say.

Thanks for thinking you understand me, but I actually rethought a lot of my positions and entirely stopped reading/watching the things someone like Greg pays attention to.

I want a public option, I am pro-LGBT, I want police reform and an end to qualified immunity, but I absolutely believe America is the shining city upon the hill and should use diplomatic/military means to push the rest of the world in the right direction.

I am absolutely in the center, with Bushy neocon vibes.

My point had little to do with your personal politics, I meant the center doesn't exist because it's all relative to acceptable American politics.

If we get all this stuff:

"a public option, I am pro-LGBT, I want police reform and an end to qualified immunity,"

and the conversation shifts to "maybe we should try real socialism?", I'd probably start calling myself a centrist too.

Ok, that’s fair. Sorry if I sounded a little defensive. I have some things that I’m very ardent about, but in general, I try to pick the best from each side to better serve the country. That’s all.

That's the whole thing though, what constitutes "each side" depends on both time and place. The Democratic Party would be a center-right party in a whole lot of the rest of the world today. Their economic positions today would have been center-right from roughly the 30's-70's in this country. There's no inherent virtue in picking a compromise position between the US's two dominate parties simply because it's between them.

e: there's nothing inherently good about being 100% in line with either particular party either, of course.

So, the same as Cook county?

You must live in a different timeline/reality than the rest of us.

I googled Portland riots and all literally every single news story is from 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Sorry, this one I'm familiar with. I watch the livestreams nightly. Last weekend was bad in Portland, regular riots. I will grant you this week so far I've caught no streamers from Portland online. Last weekend everything was status quo: nightly speeches followed by marching/bashing/riots. Basically been several months of anarchy in Portland and still many nights in Seattle.

My in-laws are about to drive from Phoenix to Portland and stop only one night in a hotel (both around 75 years old) and come directly to our house to stay with us, which I didn't agree with and I am currently losing my mind over it. No quaratine, no test...they'll "be extra careful". The CDC is saying not to travel for Thanksgiving, our cases are record breaking everyday here in the OR and our county is on a four week shut down...."But my five year and I will be fine"- says my wife....

From someone who lives here please stop spreading this idea that Portland is in anarchy. Besides our increasing Covid rates and a lockdown, they other major news around here is moving some homeless camps.

I just had to drive across the country in October. It can be done about as safely as going into any other business, I think. I was more worried in rest stops since I was inside and near people for a while. In a hotel room, if the air conditioning/heat has been on before you come in, the air has circulated through enough that there shouldn't be anything left. Don't stand in the hallway talking to people, if you go in and out of your room, go outside quickly, don't linger.

Tell them fast food or takeout for every meal. No standing indoors with people for more than a few minutes, and if someone is indoors without a mask, leave the room as quickly as you can.

I know what I see. If it's lessened the past two weeks, then I'm very happy. I watched it nightly all summer into the fall into the winter. If it's now subsiding, good. But I will not back down on my summer/fall/early winter hobby of nightly watching the streamers in Portland. Just Saturday two guys were online harassing the Antifa in the street. I can send you the link. It was pretty funny. It was LAST WEEKEND. If you want the links I watch I'll PM them to you.

They are bringing their own food, my point is more that I never agreed to this and they are just coming. This is the worst time for this and they've just decided to not listen.

Wouldn't be spectacular if Merrick Garland was the guy who got to prosecute Donald Trump?

I'm confused. Didn't they already do a hand recount?

No, it would open a vacancy on the DC circuit that McConnell wouldn't let Biden fill.

Greg - why are you randomly watching live streams of riots in other places? Seems like an odd thing to do. Why not get some fresh air or a hobby that is less stressful.

Why not just post them in this thread?

Also 2 guys harassing some other guys in the street =/= rioting. :jpshakehead:

You don't actually see anything though. You see what someone else wants you to see, through the lens that they want you to see it.

Not the Portland riots. I spent many a night up til 3 my time watching the cops finally respond to the firebombs, etc. on stream. Every night rinse repeat with cops chasing the arsonists/rioters in Portland.

I hope you are against arson and the like. I would assume you are. Ordinary apartment goers shouldn't have to go to bed worried their building will be set ablaze. It's not right to pay taxes and have the mayor/governor refuse to respond and refuse to make charges stick when they finally do come out to stop the madness on a nightly basis.

Thanks for the advice. It is unhealthy for me to get so upset on a nightly basis. I enjoy your posts BTW. Reasonable and never insulting.
