Hahaha Cubs took Martin.  D2 lefty. Struck out the world but threw a million pitches to do it.

The fact that competetive balance picks exist is still ridiculous

  • It's necessary now, man. Lets see what they do tomorrow. For example, if they pay a guy $150K tomorrow, it costs $25K against pool. If they did that today, it counts as $150K. There are reasons for do

  • Again, everyone taken in rounds 1-10 is signing or the team wouldn't select them

Broadway? OMG Sox suck at drafting again

Gotta save $ somewhere. Would like for them to nab a closer

EDIT: I meant Catcher, not closer. My bad

If you're gonna save money, might as well grab a SEC guy

Mulholland from Oregon State would be nice

Lovin the 1-3 and 5 picks.

I would really like it if the Sox nabbed a C before the end of the day.

I like Patrick Winkle out of UCONN.

MLB Pipeline: Winkel was a solid high school prospect in Connecticut, one whom the Yankees drafted late in 2018, but decided to honor his commitment to his home-state UConn. A strong freshman season in 2019 got people excited, but he missed 2020 following Tommy John surgery. He came back healthy in 2021, but while he threw better than expected, his offensive performance was a bit more uneven. Winkel does fit a profile teams covet as a left-handed hitting catcher with power. He has above-average raw pop and did get to it in 2021 to hit 11 homers, but while he made a lot of contact and drew walks overall, he did most of his damage against fastballs, struggling against breaking stuff and leading some to wonder if there's enough hit tool for him to keep getting to that power consistently at the next level. While he's not a runner, Winkel is athletic behind the plate and is an average overall receiver and his arm bounced back better than anticipated, giving scouts confidence he'll be just fine behind the plate. That, plus the raw power are enough to think he might be a backup as a pro, with the chance for him to be more if the bat bounces back overall.

Any guesses how they'll fit in our Top 10?

Tristan Peters.  Love that kid.  Leadoff type. Grinds out AB's and he can really go get it in CF.

Going to guess only Kath and Montgomery make it into the top 10, and they are in the top 5 somewhere.

There's Theo!  Gosswein's closer.  He's old and big.  Played football. Got hurt a couple times. Power arm. Mid 90's fastball w/plus breaking ball. The strike zone eludes him at times.

Theo Denlinger? There's so many 10,000 signees I would have preferred

I expect nobody particularly interesting being drafted today. Maybe they will take one or two big swings tomorrow, but it‘s all about saving money toda from now on.

Why punt picks like this when you didn't draft anyone overslot?   And it's like they're not even trying with some of the punt picks.

Yeah, judging by the last couple of picks, the Sox are looking to save some cash, and probably aren't picking anyone else interesting today.

Kath will almost certainly be overslot, and they might have targets for overslot in the last 10 rounds.

Exactly. Sox blew their wad with Montgomery/Katz/Burke/McDougal selections and now will be looking to primarily save money

Kath, McDougal and possibly Burke will be overslot deals

Theo has a chance to be a big leaguer.  He has the stuff he just needs to throw more strikes and stay healthy.

And you never know with these guys. Mendick signed for 17k, maybe one of them will have a role on a big league club as unlikely as it is.

He's about as old as a draftee gets at age 25 already

Test him and see what he has got
