Mexico is using their best players (minus a couple of guys who are injured) in the Gold Cup in part because the US thoroughly destroyed them in Nations League last month. The USA sent a bunch of guys who won't be on their Copa America squad next year or even in the World Cup picture for 2026. Outside of the goaltenders, I'd be shocked if anyone who played on this team really factors in other than maybe one of the young players like Neal or Cowell if they really develop or Miles Robinson as a deep reserve center back. No thanks to Qatar for fucking up the calendar and forcing the NL final so close to the Gold Cup. Would have been nice to see everybody's best.

Miles Robinson's stock is way down after the Gold Cup. 2 handballs against Canada and he didn't exactly look that much better than Miazga and Long. Ream, Richards, CCV, and even Zimmerman are probably ahead of him right now in the depth chart. I know he was injured recently, but still.

July 22, 20232 yr Nice to have World Cup on. Game times are pretty solid too - at least as a West coaster.
July 26, 20232 yr Messi with 3 goals in less than 90 minutes. He might actually carry Miami from last to a playoff spot.
August 27, 20232 yr I had tickets for tonight's game against the Red Bulls that I bought right before he signed. Sold them the moment Tata said he'd sit Messi. Thank god.

Saw that and felt some regret, but my best friend (who I had bought the tickets to go with) bailed because he assumed I had sold them weeks ago and made plans. My wife was gonna go so it didn't go to waste, but she's got minimal interest. In the end, it's not the worst thing.
August 27, 20232 yr But also, man, the MLS needs to capitalize so hard and try to attract more talent. It's a long, long way from ever tussling with the European leagues, but all it takes is for MLS to reinvest the profits and Messi to tell other stars "yeah this is fun as s%*#."

Saudi Arabia is throwing billions at players but who knows if it'll actually get people watching. MLS is super accessible with the MLS pass. If they capitalize on this correctly they might be able to lure a lot more older stars over without having to pay them oil money.
March 25, 20242 yr We own Mexico at this point. Undefeated in the last 7. Beat them in 3 straight Nations Leagues.

June 23, 20241 yr Copa America starts tonight for the USMNT. Need to win big against Bolivia to set the tone. If they get grouped Berhalter might finally get fired.

They should have won by 6 - but overall can’t complain. Tourney starts for real on Thursday against Panama and than a real tough one against Uraguay. Would be nice to beat Panama and know they are in.
June 28, 20241 yr One of the dumbest reds I've seen a US player commit and we're probably gonna get grouped now. The unfortunate thing is that the Weah red probably absolves some blame from Berhalter. But still, not good enough. You can't lose to Panama at home with your best squad, even if you're down to 10 men. We really need to figure this out before 2026. We can't go into that tournament with these kinds of mistakes and embarrass ourselves as hosts. Edited June 28, 20241 yr by chw42

While I agree they needed to account for Panama's crosses, changing to a 531 and getting nothing going on offense doomed us. Because in any situation where Panama scores, you don't have the personnel to score a goal. Not to mention the extra CB he brought on, CCV, almost gave away 2 penalties on unnecessary challenges.
July 2, 20241 yr Ditch Behralter. 3 shots through 85 minutes - bad call or not this team should be better than that and outcomes at this level matter.

Never should have been hired the first time. Was downright laughable the second time. A purely nepotism hire and his teams no matter who he is coaching never have a plan in attack.
