If the White Sox trade for Carlos Rodon they have a chance

Best pitcher on the market. Get it done, Rick.

Then Carlos can say "I told you so!" Would love to have him back

This makes too much sense, no way they do it.

Would be shocked if the Giants traded him.

Once again Rick Hahn's prowess as GM rears it's ugly head.

No Qualifying Offer to Rodon.. check.

No draft pick for Sox .. check.

Makes it easier for another team to sign Rodon.. check.

Sox don't sign Rodon... check.

Giant's put innings pitched qualifier in his contract that he easily reaches but based on his medicals Hahn lets him walk ... check.

Now that Rodon can be a FA next year Giants can get a draft pick for him when they undoubtedly will offer him a QO (barring a big injury) because Hahn thought he might accept the QO and Sox would be stuck with him ... check.

I love Los, but he's not fixing this mess.  Though it would be SO White Sox to give up an actual asset to re-acquire a player they let walk for nothing only for him to leave again in the winter.

Is there any asset they aquired with that money they saved that justifies not offering him the QO?

Of all the dumb decisions Hahn has made, this would be near the top! It would be ridiculous to trade any prospects, which we already have a limited amount of, to get Rodon back, who was already allowed to walk away free and we got nothing in return the first time.

Everyone seems to forget that Rodon was doing great through this same time in the first half last year. He was 8-5 with a 2.49 ERA at the end of the first half. It's in the second half, his innings and starts went down dramatically. This was obviously due to a 10 Day IL stint in the second half and all his second half starts having long gaps between them, which was due to a tired/sore arm.

Second Half - 2021

Date Start Inn Pitches Hits ER
08/07/21 1 5 89 2 0
19 Days Rest
10 Day IL on 8-21
08/26/21 2 5 67 5 2
6 Days Rest
09/01/21 3 5 77 5 1
9 Days Rest
09/10/21 4 5 86 3 1
10 Days Rest
09/20/21 5 3 69 2 2
9 Days Rest
09/29/21 6 5 69 1 0
9 Days Rest
10/12/21 7 2.2 56 3 2
13 Days Rest
Totals  7 30 513 21 8
Ave Per Start   4.2 73.2 3 1.4

To give up any prospect and possibly get these same results again, would be dumb and risky. Not to mention he will be a free agent at the end of this season. His productivity wasn't the issue, it was his lack of being available to pitch in the second half!

As the old adage goes, "two wrongs don't make a right!"

Maybe a better solution is for Lynn, Kopech and Giolito to  step up and start pitching like they were expected to.

You forgot a few things First of all he got a tired arm because he basically had not pitched the previous 2 years.

In order throw innings you have to have build up endurance in your arm . Him not pitching much in the 2nd half was due to being tired due to lick of innings the previous 2 years.

So he ends up throwing more inning in 2021 which builds up endurance to pitch more innings in 2022.

This is how pitching works.

Sure. Trade for Rodon. Then, as soon as the Sox win the division as a result. Hahn has to immediately be fired on the spot.

Get Rodon and a lefty outfielder from Giants… how about Luis Gonzalez too. Zing…
