A name we haven't heard

Take this for what its worth-- a rumor, albeit a rumor from a person involved in major league baseball. All along, the papers have reported that there is one stealth candidate. Today I was told that Tom Kelly is in the mix. Seems unlikely, but you never know.

Now that I would like.

I'm a retard, who is this Tom Kelly character? :bang

i hope that is true.

I fear that it isn't

I've also heard the rumor that TK is the guy the Red Sox have targeted.

Considering how hard he worked for the Twins last season as an advance scout, I question whether he would manage a team that is one of Minnesota's top rivals.

But I'd vote yes on TK

Seriuosly?

He was the manager of the Twins throughout the 80s and until 2001.

He won two World series titles.

He is a youngster, and I am afraid he really doesn't know. I would not mind Kelly, but is he not older (not that it obviously matters after McKeon).

Haha, that would be very interesting if we could get him, what is his style of mananging??

I'd be all for Kelly, especially considering his knowledge of the Twins and the AL Central.

Plus, working as a scout, he's got a good overall knowledge of the entire AL.

That would be a very nice pickup for manager.

VERY nice.

Unfortunately, my eternal pessimism makes me doubt that it would happen.

I WANNA BE WRONG, JR and KW!! PLEASE!!!

It is too good to be true... But damn, talk about a guy who could emphasize the fundementals...

Kelly would be a great hire. When he retired from the Twins two years ago, I thought all along he'd be a good replacement for Manuel.

I only have two beefs with TK. One, he hasn't been on an incredible amount of winning teams. I assume it is because Pohlad is a dick and wouldn't spend money, but he only had 6 years where he won 80 games as manager, and he had a stretch of 7 straight losing years. My second beef is that he sticks with guys too long. In 2001, he cost the Twins a shot at winning the division by keeping LaTroy Hawkins in as closer....he finally made the switch in September to Eddie Guardado when Cleveland had virtually already clinched.

I'd still take him over Manuel, and TK would be a hell of a move. I don't think it will happen though personally. I believe he has been an instructor at the Twins ST for the past 2 years, even after his retirement.

Kelly is the best name I have heard so far, much better than Cito or Guillen.

Just think of what the hiring of Kelly would do to the Twins/Sox rivalry...

More wood onto the fire.

Come on. We're getting ahead of ourselves. We are talking about the chicago white sox here. THE Chicago White Sox. Do we ever do anything surprising?? Of course not. Cito or Guillen are 'our' choices... bleh...

More wood onto the fire.

Rocket fuel on the fire.

Has this speculation been in print anywhere (link?), or is this from somebody's mechanic again? ;)

Probably more like a waiter at TGI Friday's.

Tom Kelly would be an AWESOME hire. And yes, I can see the Sox pulling a stunt like this. Especially with the Dusty sitaution on the North Side.

I fear we're all fantasizing here because none of the Chicago or Minneapolis papers have even floated TK's name -- and you KNOW it would leak out somewhere if it was even a remote possibility.

Also heard that Terry Francona is a possible with Boston.

What, they're not racing to hire Jerry Manuel?

I fear we're all fantasizing here

That's what the off-season is for!!

Sox fans fantasizing about managers, sCrUB fans fantasizing about not choking in the playoffs, Spankee fans fantasizing about blowing up a team that went to the World Series....that's the Hot Stove, BABEEEEEE!!!!

I am not saying this will happen-- but I was told this by someone very involoved in MLB. Not a waiter or a mechanic.

Kelly is only 53 years old, and would be a pretty good consideration.

He's not very good with the younger players. He can be too critical and will not play them if he doesn't feel comfortable with them. He did better in 2001 when he had a very young Twins team but I don't know if you can teach an old dog new tricks.

On the other hand the Sox aren't that young, depending on who they bring back and who they bring in. Kelly would be an interesting choice.
